Braves' Martin Perez: Stretches out to four innings
Perez gave up three runs on four hits and a walk over four innings in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Rays. He struck out six.
The veteran southpaw entered the game to begin the fifth inning and went the rest of the way, tossing 51 pitches (34 strikes), With Joey Wentz (knee) out of the picture, Perez is in line to work as Atlanta's sixth starter out of the gate as the team plays 13 straight games to kick off its campaign. Over 11 games (10 starts) for the White Sox in 2025, Perez produced a respectable 3.54 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 44:22 K:BB in 56 innings.

Braves' Martin Perez: Chance for roster spot improving
Perez is now the favorite to open the regular season as Atlanta's sixth starter or as a potential swingman, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
Perez's chances of cracking the Opening Day roster appeared slim to none just a few weeks prior, but the injury bug continues to bite Atlanta's starting rotation. Joey Wentz (knee) is the latest casualty, as he was diagnosed with a torn right ACL on Monday. This will undoubtedly improve Perez's chances of making the big-league roster, especially when considering that Atlanta opens the campaign with 13 games in 13 day, making it all the more likely the club elects to carry six starting pitchers, per Bowman. "I love the fact that Martin's in our camp, the guy can still really pitch," said skipper Walt Weiss. Perez has surrendered one run while striking out three over five innings so far this spring.

Braves' Martin Perez: Makes spring debut
Perez (shoulder) allowed one earned run on one hit over two innings of relief in Saturday's 7-5 win over the Orioles in Grapefruit League play.
The veteran southpaw covered a pair of frames out of the bullpen behind Spencer Strider in his spring debut. Even with Spencer Schwellenbach (elbow), Hurston Waldrep (elbow) and AJ Smith-Shawver (elbow) all set to miss extended time to begin the season, Perez is a long shot to win a spot in the Atlanta rotation. Perez signed a minor-league deal in January after submitting a 3.54 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 44:22 K:BB across 56 innings in 11 appearances (10 starts) with the White Sox in 2025.

Atlanta signed Perez (shoulder) to a minor-league contract Friday, Aram Leighton of JustBaseball.com reports.
Elbow and shoulder woes limited Perez to just 56 innings in 2025 with the White Sox, but he pitched well when on the bump, collecting a 3.54 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 44:22 K:BB. It's unclear whether the shoulder strain that ended his season will affect his readiness for the start of spring training. There isn't room for Perez in Atlanta's rotation when everyone is healthy, but Spencer Schwellenbach (elbow), Grant Holmes (elbow) and Reynaldo Lopez (shoulder) all ended the 2025 campaign on IL.

Martin Perez: Declines mutual option
Perez (shoulder) declined his $10 million mutual option for 2026 on Tuesday and became a free agent.
Perez will receive a $1.5 million buyout after declining his option. Elbow and shoulder injuries limited the left-hander to just 11 appearances (10 starts) in 2025, and he finished the season with a 3.54 ERA and 1.11 WHIP through 56 innings. Although he performed well when healthy, health concerns and the fact that he's due to turn 35 in April will likely keep his cost down in free agency.

White Sox's Martin Perez: Season ends with shoulder strain
The White Sox placed Perez on the 15-day injured list Friday with a left shoulder strain.
Perez was forced to depart his last start against the Orioles in the fourth inning with the injury, and it will officially end his season. The veteran left-hander was limited to only 56 frames this season due to elbow and shoulder issues, but he fared pretty well when on the bump, posting a 3.54 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 44:22 K:BB. Perez will be a free agent this offseason.

White Sox's Martin Perez: Exits start with shoulder injury
Perez was lifted from his start Wednesday against the Orioles in the top of the fourth inning due to left shoulder soreness. He was charged with three earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out two batters before exiting.
The White Sox were trailing 3-0 at the time of Perez's departure, so he'll be on the hook for the loss if Chicago isn't able to at least tie the game. The veteran southpaw appeared to suffer the injury on his 75th and final pitch of the afternoon and immediately motioned to the dugout to get checked on by a trainer. Perez had pitched well since returning Aug. 13 following an extended stay on the injured list due to a left flexor strain, turning in a 3.34 ERA and 0.93 WHIP in 32.1 innings over six appearances (five starts) prior to Wednesday.

Perez (1-5) took the loss Friday as the White Sox were downed 4-0 by the Guardians, giving up three runs on four hits and two walks over 6.2 innings. He struck out three.
The veteran southpaw had no margin for error as Tanner Bibee was busy firing a two-hit shutout opposite him, but Perez still delivered his third quality start in his last four outings on 96 pitches (61 strikes). Since coming off the IL in mid-August, Perez has produced a 3.34 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 24:9 K:BB in 32.1 innings over six appearances (five starts), but he has an 0-4 record to show for it due to a lack of run support -- incredibly, Chicago's been shut out in four of those six games. He's scheduled to make his next trip to the mound at home next week against the Orioles.

Perez (1-4) took the loss Saturday, coughing up six runs on five hits and three walks over four innings as the White Sox fell 6-0 to the Tigers. He failed to strike out a batter.
The veteran southpaw had no margin for error in a matchup with Tarik Skubal, but after Perez served up a leadoff homer to Jahmai Jones, he completely unraveled in the fourth inning. Perez had allowed just four runs total (three earned) over 21.2 innings in August after returning from the IL, but his first outing in September provided an immediate correction to his ratios. Perez will carry a 3.15 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 39:18 K:BB through 45.2 innings on the season into his next start, which lines up to come on the road next weekend in Cleveland.

Perez took a no-decision in Sunday's 3-2 win against the Yankees, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over six innings with seven strikeouts.
The veteran southpaw held his own against a tough New York lineup in this 99-pitch outing, firing 62 strikes. Perez notched his fourth quality start of the season, as Aaron Judge accounted for the two runs he gave up -- the reigning AL MVP hit a solo shot in the first and scored on a Cody Bellinger double in third. Perez tossed seven scoreless innings in Tuesday's defeat to the Royals, allowing just one hit and no walks while striking out five in seven innings. He did not factor into the decision.
Perez was brilliant, allowing just a lone base hit to Bobby Witt in the fourth. He exited with a 4-0 lead after seven strong innings and that lead wound up being squandered by the bullpen, leaving Perez without the win. Perez has now allowed just one earned run in 15.2 innings since returning from the injured list Aug. 13 and he's down to a 2.02 ERA and 0.95 WHIP for the season. Perez lines up to complete a two-start week this weekend against the Yankees.

Perez (1-3) took the loss Wednesday as the White Sox were downed 1-0 by Atlanta, allowing an unearned run on three hits over 5.1 innings. He struck out five without walking a batter.
Making his first big-league start since April 18, Perez kept the opposition off balance over 74 pitches (49 strikes), but a Colson Montgomery error in the fourth inning let Marcell Ozuna come home with the game's only run. The veteran southpaw could stick in the rotation for the rest of the season with Sean Burke and Jonathan Cannon both looking to get straightened out at Triple-A, and over 28.2 innings for the White Sox in 2025, Perez has delivered a 2.51 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 27:13 K:BB. He'll look for his first win since March 31 in his next outing, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Royals.

White Sox's Martin Perez: Entering rotation Wednesday
Perez will start Wednesday's game in Atlanta, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
Perez is taking the rotation spot vacated by Sean Burke, who was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte on Monday. Aaron Civale had been scheduled to take the ball Wednesday but has been pushed back in the schedule to start Friday versus the Twins. Perez made one relief appearance last Wednesday after returning from a lengthy absence due to a flexor strain, tossing 3.1 innings of one-run ball in a 1-0 loss to Detroit. He threw 66 pitches in that appearance, which is more than he threw in either of his two rehab outings before being activated from the 60-day injured list. With that in mind, Perez likely won't be ready to handle a full workload Wednesday.
