Danny Duffy: Released by Texas
The Rangers released Duffy on Wednesday, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports.
Duffy held a 5.50 ERA and 17:17 K:BB over 18 innings with Triple-A Round Rock. The 35-year-old hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2021, and at this point, Duffy may face an uphill battle to make it back to The Show.

Rangers' Danny Duffy: Won't make team
The Rangers informed Duffy on Friday that he will not make the Opening Day roster, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports.
Duffy has an opt-out clause in his contract with the Rangers, and he will likely explore his options in free agency. The 35-year-old spent most of last season in Double-A, recording a 2.30 ERA and 1.41 WHIP across 31.1 innings, but he's unlikely to contribute in the majors in 2024.

Rangers' Danny Duffy: Chance to make roster
Duffy is stretching out as a starter this spring but could also make the Rangers' Opening Day roster as a starter or reliever, Jeff Wilson of Rangerstoday.com reports.
Duffy is currently in camp as a non-roster invitee, but he is set to compete with Cody Bradford, Adrian Sampson and some of the team's prospects to earn a roster spot. He has battled arm injuries during the last two seasons and hasn't pitched in the majors since 2021, but he is currently healthy and could take advantage of the Rangers' lack of pitching depth. Duffy was with the Rangers' organization in 2023, pitching as a reliever for Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock, but he stretched out as a starter in the Puerto Rican Winter League. There, the left-hander didn't allow an earned run over 15.2 innings while striking out 19 and limiting opponents to a .161 batting average.

Rangers' Danny Duffy: Back with Texas as NRI
Duffy signed a minor-league contract with the Rangers on Monday that includes an invitation to spring training.
Duffy pitched at Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock in the Rangers organization last season, holding a 3.28 ERA and 42:29 K:BB over 35.2 innings. The veteran left-hander hasn't pitched in the majors since 2021 in large part due to arm issues, but the Rangers saw enough to like to bring him back on a non-guaranteed deal.

Rangers' Danny Duffy: Struggles in debut with Frisco
Duffy (forearm) allowed two three runs in two-thirds of an innings Saturday for Double-A Frisco.
Duffy was just activated off the seven-day injured list after missing the first two months with a forearm strain and had his service transferred to Double-A. The left-hander's debut was a shaky one, as he walked three without recording a strikeout. Duffy has been an effective hurler when healthy, and assuming the command comes in the coming weeks and months, he could help the Texas bullpen by the end of 2023.

Rangers' Danny Duffy: Sidelined to begin season
Triple-A Round Rock placed Duffy (forearm) on its 7-day injured list Friday.
Duffy caught on with the Rangers on a minor-league deal in late January but didn't make any appearances during the Cactus League slate while working his way back from the left forearm strain that he sustained in July of 2021 and aggravated last September while he was in the midst of a minor-league rehab assignment with the Dodgers. The southpaw is without a clear timeline for a return and may be looking to reboot his career as a reliever after having not appeared in a game in the majors since 2021.

Rangers' Danny Duffy: Signs on with Rangers
Duffy (forearm) agreed Friday to a minor-league contract with the Rangers and received an invitation to major-league spring training, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Duffy's $7 million club option for 2023 was declined by the Dodgers in November after he was unable to pitch at all in 2022 due to forearm issues. The left-hander did pitch well in 2021 with a 2.51 ERA over 61 innings for Kansas City, and if he can stay reasonably healthy, he could be a significant asset for the Texas pitching staff. For fantasy purposes he carries at least as much risk as potential reward, however.

Danny Duffy: Let go by Dodgers
Duffy (forearm) had his $7 million club option for 2023 declined by the Dodgers on Tuesday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
The left-hander didn't see big-league action in 2022 after he re-signed with Los Angeles in March. Duffy was acquired from the Royals at the 2021 trade deadline, but he never took the field for the Dodgers while he battled forearm issues. The 33-year-old had a 2.51 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 65:22 K:BB across 61 innings for Kansas City in 2021 prior to the injury, and he'll now head to free agency without having pitched in the majors in well over a year.

Dodgers' Danny Duffy: Done for season
Duffy (forearm) has put a halt to his rehab assignment, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
Ardaya notes that Duffy simply wasn't recovering as quickly as the organization had hoped, so he'll shut it down for the year with the hope of beginning the 2023 campaign at full strength. He failed to appear in a big league game in 2022.

Dodgers' Danny Duffy: Moves rehab to Triple-A
Duffy (forearm) will transfer his rehab assignment from Single-A Rancho Cucamonga to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday, Oklahoma City broadcaster Alex Freedman reports.
Oklahoma City will mark the final stop of Duffy's rehab assignment, after he made two appearances in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League and one with Rancho Cucamonga. Freedman notes that Duffy is scheduled to appear out of the bullpen for Oklahoma City's game against Round Rock on Wednesday, and given that the lefty covered one inning in each of his previous three outings, he appears to be preparing to return from the 60-day injured list as a reliever. The Dodgers have only four healthy starting pitchers on the active roster at the moment, but Clayton Kershaw (back) will be reinstated from the 15-day IL on Thursday, Tony Gonsolin (forearm) doesn't appear to be tracking toward a lengthy stint on the IL, and rookies Ryan Pepiot and Michael Grove remain on hand at Triple-A as capable options to make spot starts for the big club as needed.

Dodgers' Danny Duffy: Rehab moved to Single-A
Duffy (forearm) struck out two batters in one scoreless inning with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on Friday.
Duffy had previously pitched in two ACL contests, and this was his first outing with the Single-A Quakes. The veteran hurler is working his way back from a left forearm flexor strain that has kept him out of action since last July. There is hope that he can join the Dodgers' bullpen sometime around mid-September.

Dodgers' Danny Duffy: Pitches in ACL game
Duffy (forearm) pitched Saturday in the Arizona Complex League and could still be an option for the Dodgers later this season, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
He reportedly had a setback earlier this month, but that was apparently just some soreness, according to manager Dave Roberts, and Duffy is right back to pitching in games. Expectations should be tempered, but if Duffy is able to get fully stretched out while showing his normal stuff, it's possible he could be fantasy relevant over the final weeks of the season.

Dodgers' Danny Duffy: Season in jeopardy
Manager Dave Roberts said Tuesday that Duffy (forearm) suffered a setback and that it's "pretty unlikely" the left-hander returns this season, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.
A return in 2022 hasn't been completely ruled out for the 33-year-old, but the setback is apparently significant enough to potentially end his season. Duffy was traded from Kansas City to Los Angeles at the trade deadline last year and re-signed during the offseason, but he has yet to see game action for the Dodgers while recovering from the left forearm flexor strain, and he may not debut for the team this year.

Dodgers' Danny Duffy: Facing hitters in AZ
Duffy (forearm) could go on a rehab assignment in a couple weeks, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.
He has been facing hitters in Arizona and his fastball velocity has been 92-93 mph, according to Harris. Duffy has been a quality pitcher at times when fully healthy, so if can make it all the way through a rehab assignment and there is an opening in the Dodgers' rotation, it's possible he could be a viable fantasy option in September.

Dodgers' Danny Duffy: Begins throwing program
Duffy (forearm) recently started a throwing program but has yet to work off a mound, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Duffy remains sidelined by the left forearm flexor strain he suffered last July, but his return to throwing is a positive step for his recovery. It figures to take him awhile to build up his workload before progressing to mound work, and the veteran left-hander isn't expected back until at least June.

Dodgers' Danny Duffy: Back with Dodgers
Duffy (forearm) agreed to a one-year contract with the Dodgers on Thursday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
Duffy was acquired by the Dodgers at the trade deadline in 2021, though he never appeared for the team due to a forearm injury. He is still recovering from the issue but is expected to return to the mound by June, per Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times. Duffy has served almost exclusively as a starter throughout his career, but his most likely fit in Los Angeles is as a reliever.
