  • Julio Teheran: Reaches free agency again

Teheran opted out of his minor-league contract with the Orioles on Sunday and will become a free agent, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports. Teheran will be seeking out another organization after his second stint of 2024 with the Orioles ended without him receiving a look in the majors. After linking back up with the Orioles on a minor-league deal earlier this month, Teheran proceeded to turn in a 9.18 ERA and 2.04 WHIP across 16.2 innings over his four starts with Triple-A Norfolk. Teheran previously spent time with the Cubs and Mets earlier this season.

  • Orioles' Julio Teheran: Links up with Baltimore

Teheran agreed to a minor-league contract with the Orioles on Tuesday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. The veteran right-hander opted out of his minor-league deal with the Cubs over the weekend and didn't take long to latch on with a new team. Teheran has just one appearance in the big leagues this season and has struggled to an 8.82 ERA over eight starts at the Triple-A level. The Orioles are in dire need of rotation depth due to Tyler Wells (elbow) and John Means (elbow) both recently being ruled out for the season.

  • Cubs' Julio Teheran: Notches minor-league deal with Cubs

Teheran and the Cubs agreed on a minor-league contract Sunday, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports. After being designated for assignment by the Mets on April 9, Teheran elected free agency, and he has now found a new home with Chicago. The right-hander made one start with New York before he was let go, surrendering four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three against Atlanta on Monday. The 33-year-old will now begin with Triple-A Iowa, but he'll likely earn a shot with the major-league roster relatively soon.

  • Julio Teheran: Enters free agency

Teheran elected to become a free agent Thursday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Teheran cleared waivers after being DFA'd by the Mets on Tuesday and exercised his right to refuse an outright assignment. The 33-year-old right-hander gave up four earned runs in 2.2 innings during his season debut against Atlanta on Monday, and he'll now look for an opportunity with another organization in need of rotation depth.

  • Mets' Julio Teheran: Dropped from 40-man roster

The Mets designated Teheran for assignment on Tuesday. The veteran right-hander started Monday against Atlanta, but he won't stick around with the Mets after giving up four runs on six hits over 2.2 innings. Teheran can reject an outright assignment to Triple-A Syracuse and become a free agent, though it's unclear if he plans to do so.

  • Mets' Julio Teheran: Making start Monday

Teheran is scheduled to start Monday's game against Atlanta, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. The veteran right-hander's agreement with the Mets became official Friday, and he's scheduled to make his first start of the season against the team he made his big-league debut with back in 2011. Teheran will be available for up to 75 pitches and could also be an emergency option for an inning out of the bullpen Friday in Cincinnati.

  • Mets' Julio Teheran: Likely to debut Monday

Teheran, who agreed to a one-year contract with the Mets on Wednesday, is expected to be ready to start Monday's series opener in Atlanta, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. After having their second postponement Wednesday in as many days, the Mets are set to begin a stretch of 15 games in 14 days beginning with Thursday's doubleheader with the Tigers. Though Teheran won't be an option to pitch that day while he gets settled in with his new organization, club officials reportedly consider the 33-year-old right-hander fully stretched out after he had been competing for a rotation spot with the Orioles in spring training before he was granted his release shortly before Opening Day. Assuming he passes a physical and is able to throw a bullpen session over the weekend without incident, Teheran should slot in as the Mets' No. 5 starter beginning next week while Tylor Megill (shoulder) and Kodai Senga (shoulder) are on the injured list. Teheran, who posted a 4.40 ERA and 1.13 WHIP over 71.2 innings with Milwaukee a season ago, will tentatively line up for a two-start week, with his second outing falling next weekend versus the Royals at Citi Field.

  • Mets' Julio Teheran: Agrees to deal with Mets

Teheran agreed to a one-year, major-league contract with the Mets on Wednesday, Andy Martino of SNY.tv reports. Once the transaction is official, Teheran will go directly to the 26-man active roster and should claim a spot in the Mets' rotation with Kodai Senga (shoulder) and Tylor Megill (shoulder) on the injured list. Teheran was with the Orioles during spring training but opted out of his minor-league deal when he didn't make the Opening Day roster. The veteran right-hander posted a 4.40 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 50:13 K:BB over 71.2 innings with the Brewers last season.

  • Julio Teheran: Opts out of contract

The Orioles released Teheran on Saturday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Teheran has exercised the opt-out clause in his minor-league contract after being told he will not be part of the Opening Day roster. The 33-year-old veteran will now look to latch on with another organization that's in need of rotation depth.

  • Orioles' Julio Teheran: Could opt out of Baltimore

Teheran plans to opt out of his contract if he's not on the Orioles' Opening Day roster, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports. Teheran joined the Orioles on Feb. 27 after spending last season with the Brewers, for whom he posted a 4.40 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 50:13 K:BB over 71.2 innings. He entered spring training competing for a place in the starting rotation, and his chances of making the roster seemed to increase with Kyle Bradish (elbow) and John Means (elbow) down to begin the regular season. If Teheran does make the Opening Day roster, he figures to work out of the bullpen with Cole Irvin named as Baltimore's fifth starter.

  • Orioles' Julio Teheran: Joins O's

Teheran agreed to a minor-league deal with the Orioles on Tuesday that includes an invitation to major-league spring training, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Teheran had a surprising run of success with the Brewers in 2023, maintaining a 4.40 ERA and 1.13 WHIP across 71.2 innings. He could provide valuable innings for the Orioles early in the season, as both Kyle Bradish (elbow) and John Means (elbow) have been slowed at the start of spring training.

  • Julio Teheran: Heads to free agency

Teheran elected to become a free agent Friday. Teheran was pushed off the 40-man roster in Milwaukee just before the final weekend of the regular season. The 32-year-old former top prospect fared pretty well when healthy this year, posting an overall 4.40 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 50:13 K:BB in 71.2 innings (11 starts, three relief appearances) for the NL Central-champion Brewers. He should fetch some interest on the open market this winter.

  • Brewers' Julio Teheran: Joins Triple-A Nashville

Teheran was sent outright to Triple-A Nashville on Monday, per MLB's transactions log. Teheran was designated for assignment by Milwaukee on Friday, and after failing to draw interest on waivers, he'll report to Triple-A. The veteran posted a 4.40 ERA and 1.13 WHIP with a 50:13 K:BB across 71.2 frames during the regular season.

  • Brewers' Julio Teheran: Designated for assignment

The Brewers designated Teheran for assignment Friday. After starting the season hot with a 1.53 ERA and 0.88 WHIP through 35.1 innings across his first six starts, Teheran has allowed 29 earned runs over 36.1 frames since June 27. His second-half struggles will ultimately cost Teheran his spot on the Crew's 40-man roster, and it will be given to Caleb Boushley, who is set to make his MLB debut Friday.

  • Brewers' Julio Teheran: Makes another rehab start

Teheran (hip) made the fourth start of his rehab assignment Sunday with Triple-A Nashville, striking out five in five innings while allowing three earned runs on three hits and two walks. Teheran covered five frames for the second rehab outing in a row, though after tossing 72 pitches his last time out, the right-hander was lifted after 60 pitches (34 strikes) on Sunday. He appears to be sufficiently stretched out for starting duty again following his placement on the 15-day injured list July 30 with a right hip impingement, but the Brewers don't have an immediate need for Teheran in their rotation. Colin Rea has been solid enough in two turns through the rotation since rejoining the Brewers earlier this month as a replacement for injured No. 5 starter Adrian Houser (elbow).

  • Brewers' Julio Teheran: Thrives in latest rehab start

Teheran (hip) gave up an unearned run on one hit and three walks while striking out three over five innings in his latest rehab start Tuesday for Triple-A Nashville. Teheran was making his third minor-league rehab start Tuesday and delivered his best outing yet, limiting Memphis to just one hit despite spotting only 37 of his 72 pitches for strikes. Though the Brewers likely would have wanted to see better efficiency from Teheran, he looks built up enough at this point to return from the 15-day injured list and potentially rejoin the big-league rotation. Incumbent No. 5 starter Adrian Houser (elbow) is on the shelf, and Colin Rea is slated to make a second straight start in his stead Thursday versus the Yankees. If Rea falters during his upcoming outing, the Brewers could turn to Teheran to replace Rea as their new No. 5 starter.

  • Brewers' Julio Teheran: Roughed up in Triple-A start

Teheran (hip) covered 2.1 innings and allowed four earned runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out four Thursday in his rehab start with Triple-A Nashville. Teheran tossed 60 pitches (34 strikes) in the second outing of his rehab assignment after he previously made a three-inning start for High-A Wisconsin on Aug. 25. The right-hander will likely need at least one more outing in the minors to get fully stretched out for starting duty, but it's not certain that Milwaukee will have a spot available for him in its rotation once he's healthy. Colin Rea will be called up from Nashville to fill in Saturday against the Phillies for injured No. 5 starter Adrian Houser (elbow). How Rea performs Saturday along with how quickly Houser recovers from his injury may dictate whether Teheran gets another look in the Milwaukee rotation.

  • Brewers' Julio Teheran: Shifting rehab to Triple-A

Teheran (hip) is set to make the next appearance of his rehab assignment Wednesday with Triple-A Nashville, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. After striking out four batters while allowing one earned run on three hits and one walk over three innings in his first rehab outing Friday with High-A Wisconsin, Teheran will jump two levels for his second appearance. Assuming Teheran is able to build up from anywhere between four and six innings Wednesday, he should be ready to take on a traditional starting role with the Brewers. While Milwaukee wouldn't appear to have a rotation spot available for Teheran at the moment, that could change if the forearm tightness that knocked Adrian Houser out of Sunday's win over the Padres is serious enough to send him to the injured list.

  • Brewers' Julio Teheran: Cleared for rehab assignment

Teheran (hip) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Friday with High-A Wisconsin. Teheran should again be an option for the Brewers, as either a starter or long reliever, after a couple of outings on the farm. The 32-year-old right-hander had pitched to a 4.74 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 44:11 K:BB in 62.2 innings (11 starts) prior to landing on the injured list in late July with a right hip impingement.

  • Brewers' Julio Teheran: Throws bullpen session

Teheran (hip) threw a bullpen session Saturday, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Brewers manager Craig Counsell said Saturday's bullpen session would be the first of three for Teheran before he embarks on a rehab assignment. There's still no exact return date in place for the 32-year-old righty, but he seems to be in line for a return toward the end of August.
