  • Royals' Arodys Vizcaino: Outrighted to Triple-A

Vizcaino was outrighted to Triple-A Omaha on Friday. Vizcaino joined the big-league roster after the Royals were forced to place several relievers on the COVID-19 injured list in late May. That means he can be sent directly back to the Triple-A level and off the 40-man roster without passing through waivers. He gave up four runs in 5.2 innings while striking out three and walking seven during his stint with the team and will exit with Gabe Speier and Matt Peacock returning from the COVID-19 injured list.

  • Royals' Arodys Vizcaino: Yields two runs Monday

Vizcaino allowed two runs on a hit and two walks in one inning during Monday's loss to the Giants. This was the first time Vizcaino's allowed multiple runs in his seven outings this year. He hasn't shown much in the way of command since joining the Royals on May 30 -- he's posted an ugly 3:7 K:BB across 5.2 innings. The 31-year-old reliever has added a 6.35 ERA, 1.94 WHIP and two holds, and there's little to suggest he'll maintain a spot in the big-league bullpen once the Royals get some relievers back from the injured list.

  • Royals' Arodys Vizcaino: Joins major-league club

Vizcaino's contract was selected by the Royals on Monday. Vizcaino signed a minor-league contract with Kansas City in January and has posted a 1.76 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 15.1 innings over 16 relief appearances at Triple-A Omaha this year. The 31-year-old hasn't made a major-league appearance since 2019 but will serve as an extra bullpen arm after the Royals placed several relievers on the COVID-19 injured list Monday.

  • Royals' Arodys Vizcaino: Signs with Royals

Vizcaino signed a minor-league contract with the Royals on Thursday. Vizcaino hasn't been called up to the majors in either of the last two seasons, but he's made big-league appearances across seven total seasons dating back to 2011. The right-hander missed most of the 2021 campaign due to injuries but recorded a 2.35 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in 7.2 innings across seven relief appearances at Triple-A Syracuse. He'll likely serve as a non-roster invitee this spring.

  • Mets' Arodys Vizcaino: Makes return from Triple-A IL

Vizcaino (undisclosed) struck out the side in a scoreless inning of relief Sunday in his return from Triple-A Syracuse's 7-day injured list. After battling elbow soreness in spring training, Vizcaino was cleared to rejoin the Syracuse bullpen early in the 2021 season, but he made just five appearances before being shut down in late May with an unspecified injury. After an absence of nearly three months, the 30-year-old returned to action Sunday in dominant fashion. Since he doesn't possess a spot on the 40-man roster, Vizcaino will likely need to string together several quality performances before the Mets consider promoting him from Triple-A.

  • Mets' Arodys Vizcaino: Joining minor-league camp

Vizcaino (elbow) was reassigned to minor-league camp Sunday. Vizcaino returned to the mound Sunday after battling elbow soreness over the past week, and he allowed no hits and one walk while striking out one in one scoreless inning. However, the right-hander will be sent to minor-league camp ahead of the regular season and won't break camp with the Mets after he made just two relief appearances this spring.

  • Mets' Arodys Vizcaino: Battling sore elbow

Vizcaino has been shut down for about a week due to soreness in his elbow, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. It's a tough break for the oft-injured right-hander as he attempts to make a comeback. Vizcaino was showing good velocity this spring but had pitched only one inning in Grapefruit League action, and the late shutdown likely ends any chance the 30-year-old might have had of winning a spot in the Mets' bullpen. If the non-roster invitee sticks with the organization, he could head to the team's alternate training site to begin the season.

  • Mets' Arodys Vizcaino: Showing good velocity

Vizcaino has been able to hit 96 mph with his fastball this spring, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. "He feels strong," Mets manager Luis Rojas said Sunday. "He wants to get out there. The breaking pitches, they've looked nasty in the bullpens." The veteran reliever hasn't pitched in a big-league game since April 2019 due to shoulder surgery and has yet to see any Grapefruit League action this spring, but if Vizcaino demonstrates he still has good stuff he has an outside chance of breaking camp in the Mets' bullpen, or at least showcasing himself for other teams. Vizcaino has exactly 50 career saves and posted a 2.53 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 110:39 K:BB over 99.2 innings since 2017.

  • Mets' Arodys Vizcaino: Joins Mets on minors deal

Vizcaino signed a minor-league deal with the Mets on Wednesday, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports. The 29-year-old has appeared in only four games since the start of the 2019 season due to shoulder surgery, and he'll now receive a chance to restart his career in New York. Vizcaino served as a high-leverage option from 2015 to 2018 in Atlanta, recording 49 saves and 21 holds with a 2.79 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in 180 games. The right-hander will need a strong showing in spring training to have a chance of making the Mets' Opening Day roster.

  • Braves' Arodys Vizcaino: Transferred to 60-day IL

Vizcaino (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Sunday. The move has no effect on Vizcaino's return timeline, as he's already been ruled out for the year following season-ending surgery. He'll make room on the 40-man roster for Jerry Blevins, acquired in a trade from Oakland earlier in the day.

  • Braves' Arodys Vizcaino: Undergoes season-ending surgery

Vizcaino underwent right shoulder surgery Wednesday and will miss the remainder of the regular season. This is a tough blow for the Braves and Vizcaino, who landed on the injured list over the weekend with right shoulder inflammation. The procedure, which was performed by Dr. David Altcheek in New York, cleaned up Vizcaino's labrum while also removing scar tissue from his right shoulder joint. A.J. Minter should step in as the team's primary closer with Vizcaino out of the picture.

  • Braves' Arodys Vizcaino: Lands on injured list

Vizcaino was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday with right shoulder inflammation. Vizcaino hasn't pitched since blowing a save -- and earning the win -- last Sunday against the Marlins, but there wasn't a clear indication previously that he was dealing with an injury. The move is retroactive to Thursday, which would allow the 28-year-old to be activated April 21 against the Indians, though the severity of the shoulder issue is unknown.

  • Braves' Arodys Vizcaino: Bailed out after blown save

Vizcaino (1-0) gave up a solo home run to Curtis Granderson in the ninth inning Sunday to blow his first save of the season, but was credited with the win after the Braves walked it off in the bottom half of the frame. The right-hander did strike out a batter, giving him a 6:3 K:BB through four innings, and was sitting 95-96 mph with his fastball, so there's no immediate cause for concern. Vizcaino remains in the ninth-inning mix alongside A.J. Minter, and while he won't be leading the league in saves, he could still deliver 15-plus once again if he avoids any lengthy IL stints.

  • Braves' Arodys Vizcaino: Grabs first save

Vizcaino walked one and struck out two in the ninth inning to earn his first save of the season Wednesday against the Cubs. Amidst concerns about the health of his shoulder, Vizcaino managed to secure the win for the Braves. He did labor a bit, requiring 19 pitches to retire the side and hitting the strike zone with 12 of them. He was sitting at 96 mph with his fastball, about two ticks below his average velocity from last season.

  • Braves' Arodys Vizcaino: Shoulder may cost him save opps

Uncertainty regarding Vizcaino's shoulder could cost him save opportunities once A.J. Minter (shoulder) is activated this week, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. Per Bowman, Vizcaino admitted his right shoulder began bothering him again during the final weeks of spring training. He said he felt fine this weekend, but the Braves have not had a save opportunity yet, so he has not yet made his 2019 debut. The primary concern is how durable he might be if needed to pitch back-to-back days or twice within a three-day stretch. Minter is throwing a live batting practice session Tuesday and could be activated from the IL on Thursday. Bowman went so far as to say Minter could end up being the team's primary closer once healthy.

  • Braves' Arodys Vizcaino: Likely to share closing duties

The Braves are planning to have Vizcaino and A.J. Minter (shoulder) share closing duties based on matchups this season, Gabe Burns of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Minter has yet to resume mound work while tending to the injury, but the Braves are apparently still planning on having him as part of the ninth-inning mix once the lefty is healthy again. That isn't positive news for Vizcaino, whose right-handedness might preclude him to the smaller share of the save opportunities if manager Brian Snitker proceeds with his plan to play matchups. It's possible the Braves revisit their plans at closer and rely more heavily on Vizcaino in that capacity if Minter doesn't progress as quickly from the injury as the club anticipates.

  • Braves' Arodys Vizcaino: Path to saves clearing up

Vizcaino's competition for the Braves' closer role could be decreased with A.J. Minter exiting Friday's game due to left shoulder tightness. As the incumbent, Vizcaino already seemed to be the favorite for the role, but his primary competition will no longer be involved if Minter's injury is anything more than a minor one. Chad Sobotka and Dan Winkler could still be factors, but neither poses as much of a threat to Vizcaino's job as Minter.

  • Braves' Arodys Vizcaino: Likely to be primary closer

Vizcaino will likely be used as the primary closer the rest of the way, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. Vizcaino allowed two runs on three hits Sept. 17, but he hasn't allowed a hit in his other three appearances since returning from a shoulder injury. He picked up a save in his most recent outing -- his first save since June 17. A.J. Minter had a decent run in June and July as Vizcaino's top replacement, but Minter has posted a 4.24 ERA and 1.47 WHIP since the start of August and it sounds like he's fallen out of favor with manager Brian Snitker.

  • Braves' Arodys Vizcaino: Notches 16th save

Vizcaino struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning Saturday to record his 16th save of the season in a 5-3 win over the Phillies as the Braves clinched the National League East title. The righty converted his first save since June 17 and has now thrown three scoreless innings in four appearances since his return from the disabled list. The 27-year-old figures to be an important part of the Atlanta late-inning relief crew in the postseason, and he might get more save opportunities over the season's final week.

  • Braves' Arodys Vizcaino: Works low-leverage inning in first game back

Vizcaino threw a scoreless ninth inning in Saturday's 7-1 loss to the Nationals, striking out one and walking one. It's clear that Vizcaino won't be immediately retaking his role as the Braves' closer after missing over two months with shoulder inflammation. It remains to be seen whether he'll require several more low-leverage appearances or if he'll be in contention for a save opportunity sometime soon.
