  • Angels' Mike Trout: Wants to return to center field

Trout said Monday that he wants to return to center field this season, Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com reports.

Trout began the 2025 season as the Halos' right fielder, but he was a full-time designated hitter from late April on after suffering a bone bruise to his surgically repaired left knee. The three-time MVP noted Monday that he's more comfortable in center field and believes it's easier on his body. Per Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register, manager Kurt Suzuki said that he's open to giving Trout some exposure to center field in the Cactus League, but the Angels plan on having the 34-year-old work at all three outfield spots this spring before deciding where to place him once the regular season gets underway. Jo Adell was the team's primary center fielder in 2025, but he rated poorly defensively and played more right field in the final two months.

  • Angels' Mike Trout: Playing some center field possible

Angels general manager Perry Minasian said recently that he's not ruling out Trout playing some center field in 2026, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Trout was moved to right field at the beginning of the 2025 season, but he was a full-time designated hitter from late April on after suffering a bone bruise to his surgically repaired left knee. The three-time MVP has had a normal offseason and hopes to play the outfield in 2026, and Minasian said Trout is an option at all three outfield spots as well as DH. Trout's strikeout rate ballooned to 32 percent in 2025, but he made a late-season mechanical tweak and homered five times in his last seven games.

  • Angels' Mike Trout: Working to return to outfield

Angels general manager Perry Minasian said Wednesday that Trout "is working his tail off to play the outfield again," Taylor Blake Ward of TheSportingTribune.com reports.

Trout began the past season as the Angels' starting right fielder, but he was a full-time designated hitter after returning from a knee injury in late May. The 34-year-old is aiming to return to outfield duty in 2026, though he will likely still spend plenty of time in the DH slot, as well. Trout slashed .232/.359/.439 with 26 home runs in 2025 but saw his strikeout rate balloon to 32 percent.
