  • Aaron Sanchez: Let go by Jays

The Blue Jays released Sanchez on Tuesday, Blake Murphy of Sportsnet.ca reports. Sanchez signed a minor-league deal with Toronto in May, but he'll now return to the open market after posting a 7.92 ERA and 1.69 WHIP through 61.1 innings (14 starts) at Triple-A Buffalo. The 32-year-old righty hasn't pitched in the majors since 2022, and his recent performance in the minors suggests that he isn't close to a return.

  • Blue Jays' Aaron Sanchez: Reunion in Toronto

The Blue Jays signed Sanchez to a minor-league contract on Monday, Jamie Campbell of Sportsnet reports. Sanchez started his career with the Blue Jays and made his major-league debut in 2014. His best season was in 2016, when he held a 15-2 record over 30 starts with a 3.00 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 161:63 K:BB over 192 innings. Sanchez split time between the Twins and Diamondbacks last season, though he remained in Triple-A for both teams. The 31-year-old right-hander will look to work his way up through the Blue Jays' system to make his first major-league appearance since 2022.

Sanchez will throw a bullpen session for interested teams Friday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. Sanchez spent the 2023 campaign at the Triple-A level in the Twins and Diamondbacks organizations, and he held a 5.54 ERA over 22 appearances (20 starts). The 31-year-old last appeared in the majors in 2022, when he posted a 6.60 ERA and 41:15 K:BB across 60 innings between the Nationals and Twins.

  • Diamondbacks' Aaron Sanchez: Signs with Snakes

Sanchez signed a minor-league contract with the Diamondbacks on Wednesday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. Sanchez was cut by the Twins in July after putting up a 5.30 ERA and 1.74 WHIP through 73 innings in Triple-A, and he'll now look to make the most of a second chance with Arizona. The 31-year-old righty has regressed significantly from his impressive 2021 campaign and will serve as organizational depth in Triple-A Reno.

  • Aaron Sanchez: Released by Minnesota

Sanchez was released by the Twins on Monday. Sanchez, 31, has spent all of this season at Triple-A St. Paul, where he posted a 5.30 ERA and 57:53 K:BB over 73 innings. The veteran hurler will now look to latch on in another organization.

  • Twins' Aaron Sanchez: Reassigned to minor-league camp

Sanchez was reassigned to minor-league camp by the Twins on Sunday. Sanchez was re-signed by the Twins on a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training. The right-hander struggled mightily in 2022 with a 6.60 ERA in 15 appearances with Minnesota and the Nationals. Sanchez is simply organizational depth at this stage in his career.

  • Twins' Aaron Sanchez: Re-signs with MIN

Sanchez re-signed with the Twins on a minor-league contract Jan. 30. Sanchez ended the 2022 season with the Twins. The right-hander posted a disappointing .660 ERA in 15 appearances -- 10 starts -- over 60 innings with Minnesota and the Nationals. Once one of the more promising young arms in baseball, Sanchez now will have to pitch well in the Grapefruit League if he has any chance of making the Twins' Opening Day roster.

  • Twins' Aaron Sanchez: Back with big club

The Twins selected Sanchez's contract from Triple-A St. Paul on Monday. Sanchez will be up with the Twins for the third time this season after he cleared waivers and remained in the organization on the prior two occasions Minnesota designated him for assignment. Though he's started in 10 of his 14 appearances at the big-league level in 2022, Sanchez will likely work as a long reliever over the Twins' final three games of the season.

  • Twins' Aaron Sanchez: Remains in organization

The Twins outrighted Sanchez to Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday. Sanchez will stick around in the Minnesota organization for now, but expect him to elect free agency this offseason and explore his options on the open market. After turning in a 6.33 ERA and 1.54 WHIP in 58.1 innings in the big leagues this season across stops with Minnesota and Washington, the 30-year-old right-hander is unlikely to land anything more than a minor-league deal this winter.

  • Twins' Aaron Sanchez: DFA'd by Twins

Sanchez was designated for assignment by the Twins on Friday. Sanchez joined the Twins on a minor-league deal in early June, making seven appearances (three starts) for the big-league club. The right-hander posted a 4.00 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in 27 innings but will be designated for assignment for the second time in two months after Louie Varland was called up Friday.

  • Twins' Aaron Sanchez: Works in long relief Saturday

Sanchez appeared in relief in Saturday's 13-0 loss to the White Sox, covering five innings and striking out four while allowing three earned runs on three hits and two walks. Sanchez lost his spot in the rotation with Tyler Mahle returning from the 15-day injured list to start Saturday's contest, but Mahle ended up suffering a recurrence of right shoulder inflammation in the outing and was lifted after just two innings. With Mahle going back on the IL on Sunday, Sanchez now appears positioned to rejoin the rotation the next time Mahle's turn comes up Thursday against the Yankees in New York.

  • Twins' Aaron Sanchez: Short start in no-decision

Sanchez allowed two runs on six hits, a walk and a hit batsman while striking out two in 3.2 innings in an 8-3 win Sunday against San Francisco. He did not factor into the decision. Sanchez has allowed two runs in each of his three starts for Minnesota, with Sunday's outing being his shortest since joining the team. It was a rocky outing for the veteran as he allowed eight of the 18 batters he faced to reach safely and tossed just 50 of 81 pitches for strikes. He has a 4.26 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 14:4 K:BB in 12.2 innings for the Twins. With Tyler Mahle (shoulder) likely returning at the end of the week, Sanchez may not make another start for Minnesota for a while.

  • Twins' Aaron Sanchez: Picks up another start

Sanchez is scheduled to start Sunday's game against the Giants at Target Field. Following a three-week stint at Triple-A St. Paul, Sanchez made his return to the Twins on Tuesday and was solid if unspectacular over a four-inning start against Houston. He'll remain in the rotation for a second straight turn this weekend, though Sanchez will likely find himself as the odd man out as soon as the Twins get Tyler Mahle (shoulder) back from the injured list.

  • Twins' Aaron Sanchez: Takes loss in four-inning start

Sanchez (3-4) gave up two earned runs in six hits and and one walk while striking out four over four innings to take the loss in a 4-2 defeat against the Astros on Tuesday. Sanchez was recalled from Triple-A to replace Tyler Mahle (shoulder) in the rotation. Sanchez threw 75 pitches and got 12 outs while giving up a pair of runs in a mediocre appearance for the fringe starter. He's given up at least two earned runs in nine starts this season and wears a bloated ERA of 7.36. One silver lining is that Sanchez has struck out 12 batters over nine innings in two starts for the Twins. He could make his next start Sunday against the Giants.

  • Twins' Aaron Sanchez: Called up ahead of start

The Twins selected Sanchez's contract from Triple-A St. Paul ahead of his scheduled start Tuesday in Houston, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. Minnesota cleared room for Sanchez on the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster by transferring Alex Kirilloff (wrist) to the 60-day injured list and by optioning Devin Smeltzer to St. Paul, respectively. Sanchez could be in store for a two-start week while Tyler Mahle (shoulder) is on the 15-day IL, but the veteran right-hander won't make for an especially enticing fantasy option. Between previous stints in the big leagues with Washington and Minnesota this season, Sanchez turned in a 7.68 ERA and 1.68 WHIP across 36.1 innings.

  • Twins' Aaron Sanchez: Tuesday start on tap

Sanchez will have his contract selected from Triple-A St. Paul to start Tuesday's game against the Astros, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. Sanchez was designated for assignment earlier in the month and ultimately accepted an assignment at St. Paul, but he's set to receive another shot in the big leagues while the Twins are in need of a fifth starter with Tyler Mahle (shoulder) recently landing on the injured list. Through eight big-league starts with Washington and Minnesota in 2022, Sanchez has accrued a 7.68 ERA and 1.68 WHIP with 24 strikeouts across 36.1 innings.

  • Twins' Aaron Sanchez: Sticks in organization

Sanchez has cleared waivers and accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A St. Paul. The veteran right-hander was designated for assignment by the Twins earlier this week after making a spot start, but he'll remain with the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed. Sanchez allowed two runs with eight strikeouts over five innings, and the team could give him look later in the year when another spot starter is needed.

  • Twins' Aaron Sanchez: DFA'd by Minnesota

Sanchez was designated for assignment by the Twins on Tuesday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. The veteran right-hander was called up and allowed two runs over five innings Tuesday during a spot start, but his stay on Minnesota's big-league roster will be brief due to the acquisition of Tyler Mahle. Sanchez began the year with the Nationals and had a 7.68 ERA across 36.1 innings. He will be subjected to waivers.

  • Twins' Aaron Sanchez: Fans eight in no-decision

Sanchez didn't factor into the decision in Monday's 5-3 extra-inning win over the Tigers, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out eight. The right-hander was brought up from Triple-A St. Paul earlier in the day to make a spot start, but Sanchez may have earned himself a longer stay in the rotation with this effort. He tossed 51 of 81 pitches for strikes before exiting, including an eye-popping 17 swinging strikes, and the eight Ks doubled his prior season high from a rough seven-start stint with the Nationals earlier in the year. Should the Twins be unable to add a starter at Tuesday's trade deadline, Sanchez could wind up being their Plan B.

  • Twins' Aaron Sanchez: Gets spot start for Minnesota

The Twins selected Sanchez's contract from Triple-A St. Paul and will have him start Monday's game against the Tigers at Target Field. Sanchez may be moved off the roster immediately after the outing, as the team's fifth starter heading into the All-Star break, Devin Smeltzer, isn't eligible to pitch for big club for 15 days after he was optioned to Triple-A on July 17. Smeltzer will be eligible for a call-up the next time the Twins require a fifth starter Saturday against Toronto, so Sanchez may need to dazzle in his Minnesota debut to ensure he receives more than a spot start. Sanchez was roughed up to the tune of an 8.33 ERA and 1.76 WHIP across seven starts in the majors with the Nationals earlier this season, and his numbers at Triple-A in the Twins organization (4.26 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 9.1 K-BB%) haven't been much better, considering the level of competition.
