Delino DeShields: Cut by Seattle
The Mariners released DeShields on May 1.
After failing to win a spot on the Mariners' Opening Day roster while attending spring training as a non-roster invitee, DeShields reported to Triple-A Tacoma and slashed .222/.300/.222 with no extra-base hits and a 3-for-5 success rate on stolen-base attempts over 12 games before receiving his walking papers. The 30-year-old outfielder hasn't surfaced in the majors since the 2021 season, when he appeared in 25 games for Cincinnati.

Braves' Delino DeShields: Lands minor-league deal
DeShields signed a minor-league contract with Atlanta on Saturday.
DeShields was let go by the Marlins last weekend after serving as a non-roster invitee in camp. He should report to Triple-A Gwinnett and will be available to serve as outfield depth for the big-league club at some point.

Delino DeShields: Let go by Miami
DeShields was released by the Marlins on Sunday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
DeShields was in camp as a non-roster invitee but was unable to show enough during spring training to warrant a roster spot. The 29-year-old made 25 appearances with the Reds last season and hit .255/.375/.426 in 47 at-bats, but he's never approached those numbers in larger sample sizes.

Marlins' Delino DeShields: Signs MiLB deal with Miami
DeShields signed a minor-league contract with the Marlins on Friday.
DeShields became a free agent in October after being designated for assignment by the Reds and refusing an outright assignment to the minors. He appeared in 25 big-league games in 2021 and hit .255/.375/.426 in 58 plate appearances. The 29-year-old will compete with fellow non-roster invitee Roman Quinn for a spot on Miami's Opening Day roster as a reserve outfielder.

Delino DeShields: Becomes free agent
DeShields refused an outright assignment to Triple-A Louisville and is now a free agent, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
He logged an .801 OPS in 25 games with the Reds last season and will seek to keep his options open this offseason. There probably won't be a big-league deal waiting for him, but he may find a non-roster invitee deal in a situation he likes.

Reds' Delino DeShields: Outrighted to Triple-A
DeShields was outrighted to Triple-A Louisville on Thursday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
DeShields appeared in 25 games with the Reds in 2021 and slashed .255/.375/.426 with a home run, six RBI, four runs and two stolen bases. However, he'll be cast off the 40-man roster heading into the offseason.

Reds' Delino DeShields: Reaches base five times
DeShields went 2-for-2 with a run scored and three walks in Sunday's 9-2 win over the Nationals.
DeShields drew a walk in each of his first three plate appearances before poking two singles, including an eight-inning base hit before he came around to score. The veteran outfielder has gone 5-for-8 (.625) over his last six appearances, bringing his average up to .273 through 33 at-bats. He only has two stolen bases in 20 big-league games this season.

Reds' Delino DeShields: Sits after two straight starts
DeShields is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates.
Though top center fielder Tyler Naquin (ribs) remains on the bench for the third game in a row, DeShields will drop out of the lineup and give way to Shogo Akiyama. Based on his usage since being added to the active roster Sept. 1, DeShields looks to be the Reds' fourth outfielder ahead of Aristides Aquino and Akiyama, but the 29-year-old hasn't done much with his opportunities thus far. In 10 games with Cincinnati, DeShields has gone 4-for-19 (.211 average) with two doubles, three RBI, zero runs and zero steals.

Reds' Delino DeShields: Flipped for cash again
DeShields was traded from the Red Sox to the Reds in exchange for cash considerations Tuesday.
DeShields was acquired from the Rangers for cash in early August and is now involved in a similar deal less than a month later. He'll head to Triple-A Louisville for now and will try to earn his first big-league call-up of the season. He's hit .252/.385/.366 for the Rangers' and Red Sox's Triple-A clubs so far this season.

Reds' Delino DeShields: Gets September call-up
The Reds selected DeShields' contract from Triple-A Louisville ahead of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Cardinals.
One day after acquiring him from Boston, Cincinnati will add DeShields to its 40-man roster and 28-man active roster, giving the team an additional body in the outfield for the final month of the season. Though Jesse Winker (intercostal) remains without a clear timeline to return from the injured list, the Reds are expected to rely largely on a platoon of Max Schrock and Aristides Aquino to replace him in left field. DeShields will most likely function as a late-inning defensive replacement and the team's top pinch-running threat off the bench. He slashed a pedestrian .252/.385/.366 in 381 plate appearances at Triple-A this season, but the 29-year-old continued to flash some impressive wheels with a 21-for-24 success rate on steal attempts.

Red Sox's Delino DeShields: Acquired by Red Sox
DeShields was traded to the Red Sox from the Rangers on Thursday in exchange for cash considerations, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.
The speedster has slashed .264/.397/.372 with five home runs and 18 RBI at Triple-A Round Rock this season while going 16-for-18 on stolen-base attempts. The 29-year-old DeShield's best big-league season was 2017, when he hit .269 and stole 29 bags with the Rangers. It's unclear whether the Red Sox see a major-league role for DeShields this season or if they're just bolstering their outfield depth at Triple-A Worcester.

Rangers' Delino DeShields: Raking at Triple-A
DeShields is slashing .412/.500/.706 with five extra-base hits, five RBI, one steal and seven runs scored through nine games for Triple-A Round Rock.
Normally, DeShields might have been a candidate for promotion after center fielders Leody Taveras and Eli White stumbled to start the season. But the Rangers have discovered something in Adolis Garcia, who has taken over center field and been one of the early surprises in 2021. "I know people are calling because of how well he's playing," manager Chris Woodward told sam Blum of the Dallas Morning News. "I don't know if [his call-up] is going to be with us." With no room on the MLB roster, the Rangers could trade DeShields to an organization with an immediate need.

Rangers' Delino DeShields: Won't make Opening Day roster
DeShields was informed Thursday that he won't make the Opening Day roster, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.
DeShields was a non-roster invitee to spring training; however, he failed to impress by hitting only .208/.321/.292 across 28 plate appearances during the exhibition season. This move means that both Eli White and Leody Taveras will make the Opening Day roster.

Rangers' Delino DeShields: Back in Texas
DeShields joined the Rangers as a non-roster invitee Monday.
DeShields spent the first five years of his big-league career as a Ranger before moving to Cleveland prior to last season as part of the return for Corey Kluber. The 28-year-old should stand a good chance to earn a roster spot based on his resume but is unlikely to deserve much more than a bench role. He's stolen 20 or more bases in four of his six seasons but doesn't offer a ton offensively beyond his speed, as he's a career .246/.326/.340 hitter and has managed just 18 total homers.
