Braves' Brad Brach: Done for 2022
Brach (undisclosed) is on the restricted list at Triple-A Gwinnett and won't pitch again this season, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
The 36-year-old joined Atlanta on a minor-league deal in March and posted a 4.88 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 26:10 K:BB across 24 innings for Gwinnett, but he was placed on the restricted list in late June and won't return to the mound in 2022. Brach appeared in 35 games for the Reds last season, and it's unclear if he's opted to retire or if he's just stepping away for the rest of the season.

Braves' Brad Brach: Inks MiLB deal with Atlanta
Brach signed a minor-league contract with Atlanta on Sunday that includes an invitation to major-league camp, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Brach appeared in 35 games for the Reds last season and had a 6.30 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 33:18 K:BB in 30 innings before being cut in September. The veteran righty has 34 career saves and previously filled a high-leverage role for Baltimore, but he hasn't produced with much consistency since 2018.

Brad Brach: Released by Cincy
The Reds released Brach on Friday.
The veteran righty went unclaimed after being designated for assignment Monday and now becomes a free agent. Brach's 6.30 ERA and 33:18 K:BB in 30 innings this season is unlikely to make him a hot commodity in these last couple weeks before the postseason.

Reds' Brad Brach: Designated for assignment
Brach was designated for assignment by the Reds on Monday.
Brach has allowed four runs (three earned) in one inning of work, split across two appearances, since he returned from a shoulder injury in early September. He now owns a 6.30 ERA on the season. He'll make way for Kyle Farmer to return from the paternity list.

Reds' Brad Brach: Returns from injured list
Brach (shoulder) was activated from the 10-day injured list Sunday.
Brach has been sidelined nearly a month by right shoulder inflammation, but he'll rejoin the Reds on Sunday after completing a two-game rehab stint with Triple-A Louisville. The veteran right-hander has a 5.59 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 32:17 K:BB across 29 innings out of the bullpen for Cincinnati this year.

Reds' Brad Brach: Begins rehab assignment
Brach (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Brach threw a side session Saturday and has now been cleared to return to game action. The right-hander has been sidelined since Aug. 8 due to a right shoulder impingement but could rejoin the major-league club after a relatively brief rehab assignment.

Reds' Brad Brach: Rehab assignment awaits
Brach (shoulder) threw a side session Saturday and is expected to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville during the upcoming week, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Brach has been on the shelf since Aug. 8 with a right shoulder impingement, but he looks to be honing in on a return to the active roster. The Reds will presumably want to see him make at least one or two appearances at Louisville before adding him back to their bullpen.

Reds' Brad Brach: Advancing to mound sessions
Brach (shoulder) has advanced to bullpen mound sessions after beginning a throwing program last week, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. "He could be [ready] closer to Sept. 1, or so," Reds manager David Bell said. "[It was a] much-needed break, good thing is it was something he can come back from."
With the Reds losing Tejay Antone again, they could really use the extra depth from Brach, though it's likely his appearances will come in lower-leveraged situations than before the injury.

Reds' Brad Brach: Out with shoulder injury
The Reds placed Brach on the 10-day injured list Sunday with a right shoulder impingement.
Cincinnati will swap Brach out of its bullpen for Lucas Sims (elbow), who was reinstated from the 10-day IL in a corresponding move. Brach has mostly been working in a setup capacity this season, collecting one save and 10 holds while turning in a 5.59 ERA and 1.48 WHIP across 29 innings.

Reds' Brad Brach: Gets ninth hold
Despite allowing a run in the seventh inning Monday against the Cubs, Brach recorded his ninth hold of the season.
The Cubs scratched runs across in each of the final three innings to complete a comeback win. Brach has nine holds and a save, but his ratios (4.33 ERA, 1.41 WHIP) tell the true story -- one that doesn't include much fantasy value.

Reds' Brad Brach: Takes loss Thursday
Brach (0-1) allowed two runs on three hits in one-third of an inning, taking the loss Thursday versus Milwaukee.
The right-hander began the eighth inning by allowing an Omar Narvaez single followed by a go-ahead two-run home run from Avisail Garcia. That was enough for Brach to take his first loss of the season in 22 appearances. The 35-year-old has been relatively solid with a 3.48 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 25:10 K:BB across 20.2 innings while logging one save and seven holds. Despite Thursday's setback, he should continue to see high-leverage work.

Reds' Brad Brach: More saves possible
The Reds placed Brach's teammate Tejay Antone back on the IL on Saturday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports. Brach, who notched a save on Thursday, could be in line for more opportunities.
The Reds are unlikely to use just one reliever to notch saves, so Amir Garrett and Heath Hembree are also candidates to close while both Antone and Lucas Sims are out. As Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reported in the wake of his save on Thursday, Brach is aware Reds manager David Bell doesn't assign specific roles in the bullpen. "At this point, there are really no roles (in the bullpen)," said Brach. "I was ready for any situation there and just really glad to go out there and be able to shut them down."

Reds' Brad Brach: Notches first save
Brach fired a scoreless ninth inning Thursday, allowing a hit while striking out two to secure the save over Atlanta.
Brach's only blemish was a single by Freddie Freeman. He doesn't normally pitch in save situations, but closer Lucas Sims (elbow) just hit the injured list. It's still notable that Brach received the ninth inning over Tejay Antone and Amir Garrett, who've combined for seven saves this season. However, Brach has been stellar and hasn't allowed a run since June 6. The 35-year-old has a 2.51 ERA and 1.19 WHIP with 18 strikeouts in 14.1 innings.

Reds' Brad Brach: More high-leverage use
Brach picked up his third hold of the season in Wednesday's win over the Brewers, throwing a scoreless inning in relief of Tyler Mahle.
The Reds are counting on Brach in higher-leveraged situations with Tejay Antone on the IL, as he helped set the table Wednesday while protecting a one-run lead in the seventh inning. Brach hasn't allowed a run in his last five outings, though walks remain a problem for him -- he's issued six free passed in 10.2 innings.

Reds' Brad Brach: Contract selected by Reds
Brach's contract was selected by the Reds on Friday.
The 35-year-old righty has several strong seasons on his resume, but he doesn't seem to be the same guy at this stage of his career. He owns a 5.54 ERA since the start of 2019, thanks in large part to his 15.0 percent walk rate, and has yet to throw a major-league inning this season. Carson Fulmer was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Brad Brach: Elects free agency
Brach cleared waivers and elected free agency Monday.
Brach was designated for assignment Saturday, and he'll choose to become a free agent rather than accepting an outright assignment. The right-hander hasn't appeared in a game in 2021 but posted a 5.84 ERA and 1.78 WHIP in 12.1 innings across 14 relief appearances with the Mets in 2020.
