We have to go all the way back to 2016 for the last big-league action for Wieland, who turns 33 years old this weekend. He pitched in Japan and an independent ball for a few years before appearing in eight games in the minors with the Rays in 2022.

Rays' Joe Wieland: Joins Rays on MiLB deal
Wieland signed a minor-league contract with Tampa Bay on Wednesday, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.
Wieland hasn't pitched at any level since parting ways with the Cubs organization and electing free agency in November, so he'll report to the Rays' spring training facility in Port Charlotte, Fla. to build up his arm. Once he's deemed ready to go, Wieland is expected to settle in the bullpen at Triple-A Durham. The 32-year-old right-hander has previously seen big-league action in parts of four seasons, with his most recent appearance in the majors coming in 2016 with Seattle.

Cubs' Joe Wieland: Added to Cubs' 60-man pool
Wieland signed a minor-league contract with the Cubs and was added to the 60-man player pool, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.
He was most recently playing overseas in the KBO and came stateside this year to play independent baseball, where he apparently impressed Cubs scouts. The 30-year-old righty has a 6.32 ERA in 52.2 career MLB innings, mostly as a starter.

Joe Wieland: Remains overseas
Wieland agreed Wednesday with the Kia Tigers of the Korea Baseball Organization on a one-year, $1 million contract, Yoo Jee-ho of the Yonhap News Agency reports.
Wieland, who last appeared in affiliated ball in 2016, has spent the past two seasons in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball with the Yokohama DeNA BayStars, accruing a 3.80 ERA over 225 innings. The 28-year-old will forgo a potential return to North America and instead stick around in Asia, where he'll earn a heftier payday.

Braves' Joe Wieland: Traded to Braves
Wieland was traded to the Braves on Wednesday, ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports.
The return package for the Mariners has not been announced, but it could simply be in exchange for cash or a player to be named later. Wieland is now on his fifth organization, despite being just 26 years old and having only 52.2 MLB innings under his belt. The Braves are extremely thin in the rotation due to injuries, so it's possible Wieland could receive a start or two down the stretch, perhaps as soon as Saturday against the Nationals.

Mariners' Joe Wieland: Loses to A's in Friday spot start
Wieland made his season debut in a spot start Friday versus the A's, allowing six runs on nine hits across five innings. He struck out three and suffered the loss.
Wieland was making a spot start for Ariel Miranda, who pitched in a relief role Tuesday, and he fell victim to a pair of rough innings. He surrendered three runs in the first inning, cruised through four more innings and was then chased from the game after a rally with no outs in the sixth inning resulted in three more. Wieland was not having a stellar season at Triple-A Tacoma before being called up, and Friday's performance should ensure that he is sent right back down.

Wieland was called up by the Mariners on Friday and will get the start against Oakland.
Wieland has yet to make an appearance in the majors this season, but will take the mound in Oakland on Friday. He has amassed an 11-5 record with Triple-A Tacoma this season, posting a 5.38 ERA with a 1.56 WHIP. Ariel Miranda was scheduled to start Friday, but he made a relief appearance in Tuesday's extra-inning affair, so Wieland will get the nod.

Wieland has struggled mightily during his time in the minors this season, holding a 17.31 ERA and 3.38 WHIP through five starts this season. This led the Mariners to simply oust him from the 40-man roster despite not even needing the spot for any particular reason. Wieland will likely continue acting as organizational depth.

Wieland was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday, Shannon Drayer of 710 AM ESPN Seattle reports.
Wieland entered camp as a long shot to claim a rotation spot for the Mariners, and it didn't help matters when he was blasted four eight runs on 10 hits and four walks over 11 innings in Cactus League play. He'll likely hold down a rotation gig at Tacoma and should be a top spot start candidate for the Mariners in the event one of their regular starters succumbs to an injury.

Mariners' Joe Wieland: Traded to Mariners on Tuesday
Wieland was traded to the Mariners on Tuesday in exchange for infielder Erick Mejia.
Wieland primarily pitched with the Dodgers Triple-A affiliate last season, but did make two starts with the big club late in the season. He wasn't spectacular with Triple-A Oklahoma City, posting a 4.59 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in 21 starts. This change in scenery definitely helps after all the pitching signings the Dodgers recently made, but the Mariners also have quite a few options already in their rotation, so it may still be tough for the right-hander to crack the rotation this season.

Dodgers' Joe Wieland: Agrees to one year deal
Wieland avoided arbitration with the Dodgers by agreeing to a one-year, $590,000 contract, Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times reports.
This was Wieland's second year garnering arbitration eligibility. The 25-year-old right-hander made two starts late in the season for the Dodgers, recording a 8.31 ERA and 1.73 WHIP in 8.2 innings. He wasn't particularly effective with Triple-A Oklahoma either, putting together a 4.59 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in 113.1 innings, but he could be a candidate to join the Dodgers during the season if injuries effect the starting rotation.
