  • Angels' Anthony Rendon: Unlikely to play again in 2024

Rendon (oblique) hasn't yet been ruled out from returning this season, though Angels manager Ron Washington suggested Tuesday that the third baseman's return is unlikely, Andrew Seligman of the Associated Press reports.

Rendon last played for Los Angeles on Sept. 7. He subsequently missed two games due to what was originally diagnosed as a sore back, and despite initially being expected to be out just a few days, Rendon was eventually moved to the injured list and deemed to be suffering from a left oblique strain. Washington wouldn't entirely commit Tuesday to Rendon being done for the season, though the manager implied that will be the likely outcome, saying, "We haven't made a total decision on that yet, but we're still working through it. I think you make a common-sense deduction, you can answer that one yourself." If Rendon's season is in fact over, he'll finish with a .218/.307/.267 slash line, no home runs, 14 RBI, 21 runs and six stolen bases over 57 games. Since joining the Angels on a seven-year, $245 million contract in 2020, Rendon hasn't played more than 58 games in any of his five campaigns.

  • Angels' Anthony Rendon: Placed on injured list

The Angels placed Rendon on the 10-day injured list Tuesday, retroactive to Sunday, due to a left oblique strain.

Manager Ron Washington said Monday that Rendon was expected to rejoin the lineup Tuesday after sitting out two straight games due to back soreness, but the third baseman will instead move to the injured list after being diagnosed with an oblique injury. The 34-year-old will be eligible to be reinstated Sept. 18, but there's no guarantee he's back before the end of the campaign, especially given his injury history.

  • Angels' Anthony Rendon: Expected back Tuesday

Angels manager Ron Washington said Monday that he expects Rendon (back) to return to the lineup Tuesday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

He's out of the lineup for a second straight contest Monday due to left side back soreness, but Washington said holding Rendon out is a precautionary measure. The veteran third baseman is slashing an anemic .218/.307/.267 over 238 plate appearances this season.

  • Angels' Anthony Rendon: Nursing sore back

Rendon is day-to-day with left side back soreness and is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Twins, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Rendon will take a seat for the second straight game and for the third time over the last five contests while he manages the back issue. Though the Angels haven't suggested that Rendon will require a stint on the 10-day injured list, his track record with injuries suggests nothing is guaranteed. Brandon Drury will occupy third base Monday.
