Joe Panik: Calls it quits
Panik retired from professional baseball prior to the 2022 season, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
Panik split the 2021 season between Miami and Toronto, but he spent the majority of his career with San Francisco. He maintained a .264/.328/.372 line across 3,099 career plate appearances and made the National League All-Star team in 2015.

Marlins' Joe Panik: DFA'd by Miami
Panik was designated for assignment by the Marlins on Friday.
Panik didn't travel with the team back to Miami since his wife is due to give birth, and the Marlins opted to remove him from the 40-man roster rather than move him to the paternity list. The veteran infielder struggled in 95 games between Toronto and Miami this season with a .208/.266/.284 slash line, all of which are career lows.

Marlins' Joe Panik: Done for season
Panik will not travel back to Miami for the team's final series of the season, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports
Panik's wife is due to give birth, so he will stay in New York to be with her and the rest of his family. He has not yet been formally placed on the paternity list, though that move will presumably come within the next couple of days. Panik concludes the season with a .208/.266/.284 line with three home runs, 17 runs scored and 18 RBI across 257 plate appearances.

Marlins' Joe Panik: Returns to roster

Marlins' Joe Panik: Expected to return Wednesday
Marlins manager Don Mattingly said Panik will likely be reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list Wednesday, when Miami's roster expands from 26 to 28 men, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Since Panik is on the COVID-19 IL, the Marlins may need to remove a player from the 40-man roster to facilitate a spot for the veteran utility man, even though nobody will have to be optioned off the active roster. Panik was placed on the COVID-19 IL on Aug. 13, but despite having not completed a minor-league rehab assignment, the 30-year-old looks to be healthy at this point.

Marlins' Joe Panik: Lands on injured list
Panik was placed on the injured list for an unspecified reason Friday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Panik had been out of the lineup in four of the last six games and went 3-for-11 with a double, three runs and two walks during that time. Since the Marlins didn't give a reason for the 30-year-old's placement on the injured list, it suggests that he's likely on the COVID-19 IL. It's not clear whether he's tested positive for the virus, but he'll be eligible to return once he passes through the league's health and safety protocols.

Marlins' Joe Panik: Benched in fifth straight
Panik remains out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Panik's playing time looked to be on the upswing in the middle of July, but even with the Marlins moving a few other veterans ahead of Friday's trade deadline, the 30-year-old hasn't been able to capture an everyday role. He'll be on the bench for a fifth straight game.

Marlins' Joe Panik: Draws third straight start
Panik will start at third base and bat sixth Sunday against the Phillies.
Panik has gone 0-for-8 while starting at third base in both of Miami's last two games, but he'll continue to stick in the lineup in spite of his struggles. Jon Berti has worked as Miami's top third baseman in recent weeks while Brian Anderson (shoulder) has been on the shelf, but Berti's ability to play multiple infield and outfield spots has allowed both him and Panik to hold down semi-regular jobs in the starting nine.

Marlins' Joe Panik: Steals base in loss
Panik went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Sunday's 8-7 extra-inning loss to Atlanta.
The second baseman's first steal since 2019 came in the fifth inning after he drew a walk. Panik was lifted from the game in the ninth inning with Jazz Chisholm (ankle) entering as a defensive replacement. Through 134 plate appearances, Panik has a .244/.299/.366 slash line, three home runs, 13 RBI and 11 runs scored in 45 games between the Blue Jays and the Marlins. He'll likely return to a utility role when Chisholm is ready to return to the starting nine.

Marlins' Joe Panik: Goes yard in Miami debut
Panik went 2-for-4 with a walk, a home run, two runs scored and two RBI in Wednesday's 11-6 win over the Phillies.
Making his Marlins debut after being acquired from the Blue Jays, Panik got the start at third base and made a quick impact by taking Aaron Nola deep for a solo shot in the second inning. The veteran infielder figures to give his new club a second utility option alongside Jon Berti, but most of Panik's work should come at the hot corner until Brian Anderson (shoulder) gets healthy.

Marlins' Joe Panik: Added to roster, starts Wednesday
Panik was added to the 26-man roster Wednesday and drew the start at third base against the Phillies.
Panik was acquired from Toronto on Tuesday in a trade that sent Adam Cimber and Corey Dickerson the other way. He is in the starting lineup at third base Thursday and figures to see substantial time there until Brian Anderson (shoulder) is activated from the injured list.

Marlins' Joe Panik: Dealt to Marlins
The Marlins acquired Panik and an unspecified minor-league pitcher from the Blue Jays on Tuesday in exchange for outfielder Corey Dickerson (foot) and pitcher Adam Cimber, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
Since Panik is a 30-year-old on an expiring deal, the 33-44 Marlins likely won't make finding at-bats for him a major priority, but he'll at least provide the team with some additional flexibility off the bench. He has the ability to play all four infield spots, and he could be an option at third base in the short term while the Marlins await Brian Anderson's (shoulder) return from the injured list. Jon Berti is currently serving as the Marlins' primary starter at the hot corner, but he's cobbled together an underwhelming .230/.327/.353 slash line across 218 plate appearances this season.

Blue Jays' Joe Panik: Playing time on downswing
Panik is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox.
Panik had started at third base in eight of the Blue Jays' previous 10 games, but his run of regular playing time will likely come to an end in the near future following Cavan Biggio's recent return from the injured list. Expect the 30-year-old to fill more of a utility role for Toronto moving forward.

Blue Jays' Joe Panik: Swats second homer
Panik went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in Saturday's 6-2 win over the Astros.
Getting the start at third base, the veteran utility player took Jose Urquidy deep in the fourth inning to cap a four-run frame that put the Jays in the lead for good. Panik only has two homers on the season, but they've both come within his last six games as he helps fill in at the hot corner for Cavan Biggio (neck), a stretch during which Panik has gone 9-for-22 (.409).

Blue Jays' Joe Panik: Blasts first homer
Panik went 4-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in Friday's 11-2 win over Cleveland.
Toronto's offense mainly came from the bottom half of the order, with Panik delivering the game's lone homer in the third inning. The 30-year-old recently missed two weeks with a strained left calf. Panik is slashing .262/.286/.377 with a homer, seven RBI and four runs scored across 63 plate appearances this season after Friday's big game. He's more likely to feature in a bench role, but with Cavan Biggio (neck) sidelined he could split reps at third base with Santiago Espinal in the short term.

Blue Jays' Joe Panik: Back from injured list
Panik (calf) was activated from the 10-day injured list Saturday, Mike Wilner of the Toronto Star reports.
The 30-year-old has been sidelined since May 5 with a strained left calf, but he'll rejoin the active roster Saturday. Cavan Biggio (neck) landed on the injured list as part of Toronto's roster moves, so Panik should see increased reps at third base in the immediate future.

Blue Jays' Joe Panik: Resumes baseball activities
Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo said Panik (calf) fielded grounders and took batting practice Wednesday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Panik was forced to the injured list last weekend with a strained left calf, but his ability to resume baseball activities less than a week later offers hope that he'll avoid a lengthy stay on the IL. The 30-year-old had been serving as a utility infielder for Toronto prior to sustaining the injury, batting .226 with no home runs across 54 plate appearances.
