  • Giants' Cristhian Adames: Reassigned to minor-league camp

Adames was reassigned to minor-league camp Tuesday, Amy Gutierrez of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. The 28-year-old went 7-for-22 at the plate across 10 games for the Giants in 2019 and was not expected make the Opening Day roster heading into camp. Adames was productive at the plate for Triple-A Sacramento last season, hitting .283/.364/.517 with 25 RBI and 23 runs scored in 165 plate appearances. The second baseman is likely only an injury away from returning to the majors.

  • Giants' Cristhian Adames: Outrighted to Triple-A

Adames was outrighted to Triple-A Sacramento on Monday. Adames got into 10 games for the Giants last season, going 7-for-22 at the plate. He won't be a favorite to make the Opening Day roster next season now that he's off the 40-man roster.

  • Giants' Cristhian Adames: Joins major-league team

Adames was called up from Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports. After being released by the Cubs in July, Adames joined the Giants on a minor-league deal and went on to hit .283/.364/.517 in 43 regular-season games with Sacramento. He also helped secure the team's first Pacific Coast League title in 11 years. The 28-year-old will provide middle-infield depth over the final couple weeks.

  • Cristhian Adames: Released by Cubs

Adames was released by the Cubs on Friday. Adames spent most of the season on the shelf with an undisclosed injury but posted a solid .256/.375/.462 line in 12 games for Triple-A Iowa when active. The 27-year-old owns a poor .206/.283/.278 slash line in 166 career major-league games and is unlikely to generate much interest as a free agent.

  • Cubs' Cristhian Adames: Heads to minor-league camp

Adames was reassigned to minor-league camp Saturday, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports. Adames was in contention for an Opening Day roster spot with Daniel Descalso battling a shoulder injury but will instead make his way to minor-league camp. The 27-year-old joined the Cubs on a minor-league deal in February after slashing .269/.324/.370 at Triple-A in 2018.

  • Cubs' Cristhian Adames: Could earn roster spot

Adames was mentioned by manager Joe Maddon as a possible candidate for the Opening Day roster should Daniel Descalso (shoulder) start the season on the injured list, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports. Adames spent the entirety of last season in the minors and owns an ugly .206/.283/.278 line in 343 career big-league plate appearances. He's swung a hot bad this spring, though, hitting .438 with three homers in 15 games.

  • Cubs' Cristhian Adames: Inks NRI deal with Cubs

Adames signed a minor-league contract with the Cubs on Wednesday that includes an invitation to spring training. Adames spent all of 2018 at the Triple-A level in the Marlins organization. He hit .269 and made contact a whopping 85.1 percent of the time with New Orleans, but he displayed little power or speed. There doesn't seem to be a spot on the major-league roster for Adames even with his ability to play each infield position, so he seems destined for another year at Triple-A as an organizational depth piece.

  • Marlins' Cristhian Adames: Inks NRI deal with Miami

Adames agreed to a minor-league deal with an invitation to spring training with the Marlins on Thursday, Antonio Puesan of Magnus Media reports. Adames spent a majority of this past season at the Triple-A level, but did wind up appearing in 12 games for the Rockies following 121 games with the team in 2016. He went hitless in 13 at-bats during his brief time with the club, but slashed .263/.317/.461 with 11 home runs and 52 RBI for Triple-A Albuquerque. The 26-year-old sports a career average of .206 with a .561 OPS, and should serve as organizational infield depth for the Marlins this season.

  • Rockies' Cristhian Adames: Outrighted to Triple-A

Adames was outrighted to Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday, the Associated Press reports. The infielder will remain in the organization after clearing waivers following the Rockies' decision to designate him for assignment last Sunday. Adames went 0-for-13 at the dish while appearing in 12 games for the Rockies.

  • Rockies' Cristhian Adames: Designated for assignment Sunday

Adames was designated for assignment Sunday. With Ian Desmond returning from injury to make his Rockies debut Sunday, Adames was the unfortunate party designated for assignment to open up a roster spot. The 25-year-old went hitless in 14 plate appearances during April but is still a candidate to be claimed by another team.

  • Rockies' Cristhian Adames: Makes Opening Day roster

Adames is on the Rockies' Opening Day roster, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. Adames seemed to be on the outside looking in for a roster spot toward the end of Cactus League play, but with the demotion of prospect Jordan Patterson, Adames will get the opportunity to suit up for Colorado's opener in Milwaukee. He isn't tabbed for too much playing time and doesn't have great stats at the major-league level to increase his stock, but he recently added first base to his defensive repertoire, so he could enter the lineup as a defensive replacement toward the end of games if the need arises.

  • Rockies' Cristhian Adames: Could be squeezed from roster despite solid spring

Adames is 11-for-42 (.262) with three home runs in 23 Cactus League games. Adames is incorporating first base into his defensive repertoire in an effort to land an Opening Day roster spot, and his bat is helping to strengthen his argument. However, the power surge might not be enough to help the switch-hitter punch his ticket to the big leagues, as Jordan Patterson and Stephen Cardullo seem to be the front-runners to fill the void left after Ian Desmond (hand) went down due to injury.

  • Rockies' Cristhian Adames: Works out at first base

Adames was practicing at first base Monday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. The switch-hitting utility man seems to be pretty low in the pecking order compared to Mark Reynolds, Jordan Patterson and Stephen Cardullo, but this development could add some value to his game as he attempts to win a reserve super-utility job out of spring training. Alexi Amarista also seems to have that market cornered, but given Adames' outstanding Cactus League showing thus far (1.010 OPS, two home runs in 27 plate appearances), he could force the Rockies to open up a spot for him.

  • Rockies' Cristhian Adames: Could be squeezed out of roster spot

Adames' roster spot could be in jeopardy with Alexi Amarista vying for a reserve utility role this spring, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Adames was afforded a sizable amount of playing time last season after Trevor Story (thumb) went down due to injury, but his batting line at the end of the season sat at a measly .218/.304/.302. The one thing going for the switch hitter is that he is out of options, meaning the Rockies would need to expose him to waivers if they wanted to send him back to the minor leagues, although with Amarista now in tow and prospect Pat Valaika also in the mix, Adames appears to be the odd man out as things stand now. This could change if the 25-year-old has a strong spring showing, although it's hard to fathom that the Rockies wouldn't give the nod to Amarista after investing over $1 million in him over the offseason.

  • Rockies' Cristhian Adames: Back on bench for second straight game

Adames is out of the lineup Sunday against the Diamondbacks, Jenny Cavner of ROOT Sports Rocky Mountain Region reports. Adames saw a string of starts last week when Daniel Descalso was on the paternity list, but his window for extensive action seems to have closed. Descalso hit a pinch-hit homer Friday and homered again while starting in Saturday's game, so he'll be rewarded with another start at shortstop Sunday. Adames may now have to settle for splitting duties at the position with Descalso in a best-case scenario.

  • Rockies' Cristhian Adames: Could see uptick in playing time

Adames could see an uptick in playing time with Trevor Story (thumb) likely out for the year. Adames has acted as one of the main reserve infielders for Colorado all season, so it's not out of the realm of possibility for the switch-hitter to garner some extra starts as the season rolls along. That being said, his .186 batting average certainly doesn't help his cause in attaining this newly-opened role, which could lead the Rockies to instead rely more upon Daniel Descalso and his .324 average, as was the case Tuesday night. Adames' will likely remain in consideration for starts given his highly-touted defense, but unless his bat catches up with his glove, it'll be tough for manager Walt Weiss to pencil the 25-year-old into the lineup with regularity.

  • Rockies' Cristhian Adames: Hitting second Wednesday

Adames is hitting second and starting at shortstop Wednesday against the Blue Jays, MLB.com's Thomas Harding reports. Trevor Story re-injured his finger in Tuesday's game and is out of the lineup Wednesday, so Adames gets the nod. It doesn't sound like Story's injury is too serious, and he will get a chance to get another day of rest with Thursday's off day, so Adames time as a starter could be limited. However, as the No. 2 hitter in Coors Field on Wednesday, he makes for a solid play in daily leagues.

  • Rockies' Cristhian Adames: Will start Monday

Adames is in the lineup and batting second for Monday's game against the Blue Jays, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports. Adames will get the start for D.J. LeMahieu who suffered a left knee contusion Sunday. The 24-year-old is hitting .224/.333/.328 with seven RBI and five runs through 51 games as a reserve.

  • Rockies' Cristhian Adames: Remains in limited role with major league club

Adames is slashing .217/.319/.317 in 60 at-bats this season. Adames' slash line certainly isn't impressive, and he'll likely have trouble raising any of those numbers considering his highly limited role with the big league club. As long as D.J. LeMahieu, Trevor Story, and Nolan Arenado stay healthy, the switch-hitter will likely continue to sit the bench with regularity.

  • Rockies' Cristhian Adames: Cranks out first career homer Saturday

Adames went 1-for-2 with a two-run homer in Saturday's 5-1 victory over the Pirates. The 24-year-old blasted a two-out, two-run shot off reliever Jared Hughes, adding to the Rockies' lead and marking the first time he'd gone deep in 106 major league at-bats. Despite the positive development, Adames is receiving limited playing time, and only slashing .184/.262/.263 in 38 at-bats this season.
