Top Jacob deGrom News

  • Rangers' Jacob deGrom: Activated off IL ahead of start

The Rangers activated deGrom (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Friday.

DeGrom will make his 2024 debut Friday against the Mariners after completing his recovery from Tommy John surgery in June of 2023. He only gave up one earned run and stuck out 15 batters across four rehab outings, and he'll rejoin the Rangers' rotation for the tail end of the regular season. Right-hander Owen White was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move.

  • Rangers' Jacob deGrom: Delivers scoreless line in return

DeGrom (elbow) allowed four hits and struck out four without walking a batter over 3.2 scoreless innings Friday while taking a no-decision in Friday's 5-4 loss to the Mariners.

In his first big-league outing since April 28, 2023 and after completing four minor-league rehab starts prior to being activated from the 60-day injured list, deGrom was limited to 61 pitches (41 strikes) in his return to the Texas rotation. Though he was generally sharp during his time on the mound, deGrom is likely to remain on a workload restriction for his next start, which is expected to come next week at home versus the Blue Jays.

  • Rangers' Jacob deGrom: Returning Friday

DeGrom (elbow) will start Friday's game against the Mariners, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.

DeGrom has been on the injured list all season while working his way back from a Tommy John procedure he underwent last June. Now that he's made four rehab appearances in the minors, during which he allowed just one earned run across 10.2 innings while striking out 15 batters, he's been given the green light to make his season debut and help out the Rangers' rotation for the final several weeks of the season. Although the four-time All-Star hasn't pitched since April 2023, his minor-league performance and favorable matchup against a weak Mariners offense suggest that he'll pick up right where he left off during his first start back in the majors.

  • Rangers' Jacob deGrom: Looks ready to return from IL

DeGrom (elbow) allowed one hit and struck out five over four scoreless innings in a rehab start for Double-A Frisco on Saturday.

DeGrom made his fourth rehab start, and the four innings were the most he's thrown. The right-hander, who was scheduled to throw 60 pitches, was too efficient, dispatching the opposition on just 49 throws. The Rangers plan to have deGrom return from the 60-day injured list to make his season debut in the majors at some point during Texas' road trip to Arizona and Seattle that begins Tuesday and runs through next Sunday.

  • Rangers' Jacob deGrom: Rehab outing confirmed

DeGrom (elbow) will make his next start at Double-A Frisco on Saturday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

The Rangers had floated the idea of having deGrom pitch with the big-league club Saturday, but it has now been confirmed that he'll make one more rehab outing. He has yet to complete more than 2.2 innings with Frisco, so the team will likely look to stretch him out a bit more in his final start before activation.

  • Rangers' Jacob deGrom: One more rehab start likely

Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Monday that deGrom (elbow) is likely to make one more rehab start, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

While Bochy confirmed the team has weighed the option of having deGrom start for the Rangers instead of Double-A Frisco on Saturday, he added that "I don't think that's what we're going to do." DeGrom would be slated to go four innings with Frisco on Saturday, setting him up for his season debut with the Rangers the following weekend in Seattle.

  • Rangers' Jacob deGrom: Could make season debut Saturday

DeGrom (elbow) could make his season debut Saturday against the Angels, Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reports.

DeGrom had been scheduled for one more rehab start with Double-A Frisco, but now the Rangers are considering having him start for them that day instead. If his outing is at Frisco, he will go four innings. If it's with the major-league club, he would be scheduled for just three frames. DeGrom has been excellent in his first three rehab starts, allowing one run on just three hits and one walk while striking out 10 over 6.2 innings. The 36-year-old is coming back from a second Tommy John surgery.

  • Rangers' Jacob deGrom: Makes third rehab start

DeGrom allowed one and one walk while striking out five over 2.2 scoreless innings for Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday.

DeGrom made the third start on his rehab assignment and is expected to make at least one more Saturday at Double-A Frisco. The right-hander has allowed one run on three hits and one walk while striking out 10 over 6.2 innings during his rehab stint. Conceivably, deGrom could rejoin the Rangers' rotation at some point during next week's road trip that runs through Arizona and Seattle from Sept. 10-15.
