Angels' Trey Mancini: Grabs minor-league deal from Angels
The Angels signed Mancini to a minor-league contract Monday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
He'll be reunited with new Angels hitting coach Brady Anderson, who Mancini credits with remaking his swing when he was in the minor leagues with the Orioles. Mancini slashed .308/.373/.522 with 16 homers in 74 games last season at Triple-A Reno in the Diamondbacks organization. He has not played in the majors since 2023.

Trey Mancini: Opts out of deal
Mancini opted out of his minor-league deal with the Diamondbacks on Tuesday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
Mancini has spent the entire 2025 campaign to date with Arizona's Triple-A affiliate in Reno, slashing .308/.373/.522 with 16 homers, 62 RBI and 62 runs scored across 335 plate appearances. After an impressive start to the season in the minors, he'll now test his value in free agency and presumably look to sign with a club that can offer a clearer path to big-league playing time.

Diamondbacks' Trey Mancini: Cut from big-league camp
The Diamondbacks reassigned Mancini to minor-league camp Wednesday.
The 33-year-old posted an impressive 1.121 OPS in 27 plate appearances in Cactus League play, but with Arizona already having Josh Naylor, Pavin Smith and Randal Grichuk (ankle) as options at first base or designated hitter, Mancini couldn't crack the Opening Day roster. Unless his minor-league contract contains an opt-out clause that enables him to pursue opportunities elsewhere, Mancini will likely begin the season at Triple-A Reno.

Diamondbacks' Trey Mancini: Hits homer Saturday
Mancini went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in Saturday's spring game against the White Sox.
The veteran signed an NRI deal with the Diamondbacks just prior to camp and has hit well, going 9-for-21 with two doubles, a home run and three RBI over 13 Cactus League games. Most of Mancini's appearances have come off the bench against lesser-quality pitching, signaling that's he's not likely to win an Opening Day roster spot. He told Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports that he does not intend to opt out of his minor-league contract if doesn't make the team's initial 26-man roster.

Diamondbacks' Trey Mancini: Gets NRI deal with Arizona
The Diamondbacks signed Mancini to a minor-league contract Friday that includes an invitation to spring training, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Mancini didn't play in 2024 after opting out of his minor-league deal with the Marlins, but he will now attempt to win a spot on Arizona's Opening Day roster. The Diamondbacks could use a right-handed bat to balance their lineup, but Mancini joins a crowd competing for bench spots either at corner outfield or first base. Slated to turn 33 in March, Mancini slashed only .234/.299/.336 with four home runs over 79 games for the Cubs in 2023.

Trey Mancini: Planning comeback in 2025
Mancini is eyeing a return to the major leagues in 2025 after sitting out the 2024 season, Andy Kostka of the Baltimore Banner reports.
Mancini opted out of his minor-league contract with the Marlins during spring training after being informed he wouldn't make the Opening Day roster and he never signed on with a new team. However, after a year off to recharge his battery, Mancini is aiming to play in 2025. Slated to turn 33 in March, Mancini slashed just .237/.313/.374 from 2022-23 and could have to settle for a minor-league contract.

Trey Mancini: Opts out of deal
Mancini opted out of his minor-league contract with the Marlins on Saturday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Mancini's decision suggests he was not going to make Miami's Opening Day roster, so he will now try his luck on the open market. Mancini slashed .234/.299/.336 with 28 RBI across 261 plate appearances with the Cubs last season and may still be able to find a big-league opportunity with a team in search of 1B/OF depth.

Marlins' Trey Mancini: Nets NRI from Miami
Mancini signed a minor-league contract with the Marlins on Wednesday that includes an invitation to spring training, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
Mancini slashed just .234/.299/.336 with four home runs over 263 plate appearances with the Cubs last season and was even worse than that (.622 OPS) in the second half of 2022 with the Astros. Still, a modest rebound in what will be his age-32 campaign in 2024 is possible, and he should make the Marlins' Opening Day roster, barring unforeseen circumstances.

Trey Mancini: Let go by Cincinnati
The Reds released Mancini on Wednesday, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
After reaching agreement with the Reds on a minor-league deal last week, Mancini hit .316 with two home runs in just five games at Triple-A Louisville before being handed his walking papers. The Reds may not have intended to promote Mancini to the big leagues when the active roster expands from 26 to 28 men Friday, so the 31-year-old will now be given the opportunity to find work elsewhere. Mancini had posted a .635 OPS in 261 plate appearances with the Cubs this season before being released earlier this month.

Reds' Trey Mancini: Inks MiLB deal with Cincy
Mancini signed a minor-league contract with the Reds on Wednesday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
Mancini was dropped by the Cubs at the start of August after putting up a .234/.299/.336 slash line through 261 plate appearances. The 31-year-old will now serve as organizational depth for the Reds and could work his way back into a major-league bench role if his bat heats up in Triple-A.

Trey Mancini: Released by Chicago
Mancini was released by the Cubs on Thursday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.
Mancini was designated for assignment Tuesday and predictably passed through waivers unclaimed. The 31-year-old inked a two-year, $14 million contract with the Cubs over the winter but struggled to a .234/.299/.336 batting line with only four home runs in 79 games. Chicago is still on the hook for his $7 million salary in 2024.

Cubs' Trey Mancini: Dropped from 40-man roster
Mancini was designated for assignment by the Cubs on Tuesday, Bruce Levine of 670TheScore.com reports.
This move clears out a 40-man roster spot for Jeimer Candelario, who was acquired from the Nationals on Monday and will officially join the Cubs ahead of Tuesday night's game against the Reds. Mancini, 31, had slashed just .234/.299/.336 with four home runs through 263 plate appearances this season for Chicago. He is owed $7 million in 2024 and will almost certainly pass through waivers unclaimed.

Cubs' Trey Mancini: On bench Wednesday
Mancini is not in the lineup Wednesday versus the White Sox.
Cody Bellinger is starting at first base and Christopher Morel will serve as the Cubs' designated hitter as they face off against right-hander Lance Lynn. Mancini has doubled in each of his last two games but holds an overall .243/.296/.329 batting line in 154 plate appearances this year against right-handed pitching.

Cubs' Trey Mancini: Sits for second straight
Mancini will sit Saturday against St. Louis, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.
Mancini has been in and out of the Cubs' lineup throughout the regular season, with his .237/.301/.339 slash line failing to earn him a regular role. He recently started six straight games but has since found himself on the bench for two in a row, with Cody Bellinger starting at first base on both occasions.

Cubs' Trey Mancini: Recaptures regular role
Mancini will start at first base and bat eighth in Thursday's game against the Cardinals.
With the Cubs having seemingly pulled the plug on Jared Young as their primary first baseman, Mancini has been the main beneficiary from a playing-time perspective. Cody Bellinger has moved from the outfield to take over as the Cubs' main option at first base, while Mike Tauchman has settled back into center field after a brief run as Chicago's primary designated hitter. The DH spot has now reopened for Mancini, though he'll play defense Thursday while the lefty-hitting Tauchman gets a day off versus southpaw Steven Matz. Mancini will be picking up his sixth consecutive start.
