The Angels thinned the competition further by reassigning Nick Madrigal to minor-league camp, leaving Frazier, Oswald Peraza and Vaughn Grissom (hand) as the main contenders for playing time at the keystone. Neither Peraza nor Grissom have minor-league options remaining, giving them good odds of making the Opening Day roster, but as the lone left-handed hitter of the trio, Frazier -- who is attending camp as a non-roster invitee -- may actually have a better chance of seeing the bulk of the at-bats at second base. A career .264 hitter, Frazier possesses strong contact skills, but his lack of power and modest speed limits his overall fantasy appeal. Expect the 34-year-old to shift into a utility role once the Angels decide that Moore is ready for an extended run.
Frazier agreed Monday with the Angels on a minor-league contract that includes an invitation to spring training, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
Frazier split his time last season between the Pirates and Royals, finishing with a .267/.319/.365 batting line and seven home runs over 134 contests. The 34-year-old has a decent chance to capture a reserve role with the Angels, providing depth at second base, third base and the corner-outfield spots.

Frazier stretched the Royals' lead with a two-run double in the seventh inning, though he was cut down trying to stretch it into a triple. The light-hitting second baseman owns just a .683 OPS through 129 games, but Tuesday's double was his 20th of the year -- his seventh season with 20 or more. The 33-year-old has been steady at the plate lately, collecting hits in seven of his past eight contests.
