Dario Alvarez: Cut by Twins
Alvarez was released by the Twins on Wednesday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports.
Alvarez failed to earn a minor-league spot after signing with the Twins in January. The 30-year-old owns a 5.06 ERA in 48 career major-league innings and will likely have to prove himself at Triple-A somewhere before getting another chance at the top level.

Twins' Dario Alvarez: Lands with Twins on MiLB deal
Alvarez signed a minor-league contract with the Twins on Thursday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports.
The southpaw spent much of last season with the Mariners' Triple-A affiliate, producing a 1.98 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP and a 28:14 K:BB in 27 frames. He was released in early August, though, allowing him to test the free agent market this offseason. Alvarez will join the Twins organization looking for a big-league bullpen spot, though there are already a few lefties at the major-league level who could force Alvarez to spend even more time in the minors.

Mariners' Dario Alvarez: Outrighted from 40-man roster
Alvarez was outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
Alvarez passed through waivers unclaimed and will remain within the Mariners' organization after being sent off the 40-man roster last week. The 29-year-old has appeared in five games for Tacoma thus far in 2018, posting a 2.84 ERA and 1.97 WHIP over 6.1 innings of relief.

Mariners' Dario Alvarez: Nabbed by Mariners
Alvarez was claimed off waivers by the Mariners and was subsequently sent to Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.
The southpaw was sent to the minors by the Cubs after a rough start to spring training, but he'll now make a return to the AL West instead of going to Chicago's affiliate in Iowa. Alvarez did produce a 2.76 ERA in 20 appearances for the Rangers last season, but his FIP was well above that (4.67) thanks to some command struggles in the majors. Alvarez has some upside thanks to his past major-league experience, but he'll need to first claw his way out of the minors before attempting to climb the bullpen depth chart.

Cubs' Dario Alvarez: Heads to Triple-A
The Cubs optioned Alvarez to Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.
Alvarez signed a major-league deal with the Cubs in early December and struggled through 6.1 innings during spring training, carrying a 8.53 ERA and 1.89 WHIP while striking out nine. The 29-year-old southpaw could make his way back to the majors for the Cubs this season, but is likely to begin in a low-leverage role once recalled from Triple-A.

Cubs' Dario Alvarez: Signs big-league deal with Cubs
Alvarez signed a major-league deal with the Cubs, Mets Minors' Jacob Resnick reports.
The Rangers designated him for assignment last season, despite the fact that his Triple-A numbers were excellent (2.33 ERA, 31.3 percent strikeout rate), and he limited runs (2.76 ERA) while striking out 17 over 16.1 MLB innings. Of course, his 14 walks over that stretch are concerning, but his stuff is pretty decent from the left side. He works strictly with a fastball (92.4 mph) and slider, which he threw a whopping 61.7 percent of the time in 2017. He should start the season in a low-leverage role.

Rangers' Dario Alvarez: Designated for assignment
Alvarez was designated for assignment Friday.
Although Alvarez posted a solid 2.76 ERA over 16.1 innings for the Rangers this year, the other shoe was bound to drop any second. Alvarez walked 14 batters in 16.1 innings and owned an absurd 2.02 WHIP. He was sharp for Triple-A Round Rock (2.33 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 36:10 K:BB over 27 innings), so he may draw some interest on waivers.

Rangers' Dario Alvarez: Demoted to minors
Alvarez was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Monday.
Alvarez was the roster casualty needed to clear room on the 25-man for Jason Grilli, who was recently acquired from the Blue Jays in a trade. While he compiled a respectable 2.76 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 16.1 innings of work, his 2.02 WHIP and 14 walks suggest that success may be difficult to maintain. He'll head back to Round Rock to work some kinks out, but he should see another opportunity in the Rangers' struggling bullpen down the road.

Rangers' Dario Alvarez: Fails to strand runners Monday
Alvarez gave up a walk and a hit before recording the final two outs of the fifth inning in Monday's 15-9 loss to the Indians.
Alvarez may have escaped the contest without damage to his ERA, but he failed to clot the bleeding upon replacing starter Cole Hamels with one out and the bases loaded. The lefty would go on to allow all three of Hamels' baserunners to score, cutting the Rangers' lead from five to two by the time he departed. With a 16:13 K:BB and 1.91 WHIP over 14.2 innings this season, Alvarez hasn't made a strong case for further work in high-leverage scenarios.

Rangers' Dario Alvarez: Ticketed for big leagues
Alvarez was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock on Friday.
With reliever Tony Barnette landing on the disabled list with a finger issue, the Rangers will summon Alvarez from Round Rock to fill the void. Alvarez's lone appearance in the minors was a scoreless one, which is consistent with his serviceable 3.27 ERA out of the major-league bullpen earlier in the season. He'll likely serve as a middle reliever for now.

Rangers' Dario Alvarez: Sent to minors
Alvarez was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Friday.
Alvarez was sent back to Round Rock to make room for Jurickson Profar, who was recalled to offer infield depth while Adrian Beltre (ankle) is sidelined. He compiled a 3.27 ERA in 11 innings with the Rangers, though he struggled keeping runners off the bases, posting a 12:9 K:BB and 1.82 WHIP as well. He'll likely return to a middle relief role with the big club when another bullpen arm is needed.

Rangers' Dario Alvarez: Activated from DL
Alvarez (elbow) was activated from the 10-day disabled list Tuesday, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
Alvarez had been sidelined for a little over a week with the elbow issue and felt fine during a 26-pitch bullpen session over the weekend, which was good enough for the Rangers to bring him back without sending him out on a rehab assignment. The southpaw has submitted a 3.48 ERA and 12 strikeouts over 10.1 innings this season and is expected to settle back into a role in middle relief, mostly acting as a lefty specialist.

Rangers' Dario Alvarez: Completes bullpen session
Alvarez (elbow) threw a 26-pitch bullpen session Sunday, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.
Alvarez last appeared in a game May 26 before being diagnosed with the strained left elbow, so he would be eligible to come off the disabled list as soon as the Rangers deem him ready to go. The team is expected to decide later this week whether Alvarez will be activated or head out on a minor-league rehab assignment.

Rangers' Dario Alvarez: Hits DL with elbow strain
Alvarez was placed on the 10-day disabled list Sunday due to a left elbow strain.
Utility man Drew Robinson was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock to take Alvarez's spot on the active roster. The lefty reliever picked up two holds earlier in May, but prior to the injury, it seemed he had fallen out of the setup mix after giving up runs in two of his last four appearances. Once healthy, Alvarez will likely be ticketed for low-leverage work out of the bullpen.

Rangers' Dario Alvarez: Recalled from Triple-A
Alvarez was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock before Monday's game against the Padres.
Alvarez was sent down after Sunday's game, but an injury to reliever Jose Leclerc opened up a job for him once again. He has been wild, with six walks over nine innings, but he's used 10 strikeouts to keep his ERA at a respectable 3.00. Due to the simple fact that Alvarez is one of the few Rangers relievers with options remaining, expect him to move up and down between the majors and minors for much of the season.

Rangers' Dario Alvarez: Demoted prior to Sunday's game
Alvarez was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday.
Alvarez had sported a flawless record this season right up until Saturday, when he allowed three earned runs in the loss to the Mariners. Despite that being his only poor showing, the lefty will lose his roster spot, at least in the short term, to 32-year-old Austin Bibens-Dirkx.

Rangers' Dario Alvarez: Opens season with 7.2 scoreless innings
Alvarez struck out the lone batter he faced and picked up his first hold of the season in Tuesday's 8-7 loss to the Astros.
Manager Jeff Banister has been using the southpaw mostly on a situational basis this season, as Alvarez came on Tuesday to retire the lefty-hitting Josh Reddick. Alvarez has tossed 7.2 scoreless innings to begin the campaign, but a 1.43 WHIP and a 100 percent strand rate suggest that some correction should soon be in order.

Rangers' Dario Alvarez: Labors through relief appearance
Alvarez turned in 1.1 scoreless innings of relief and struck out one batter in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Athletics, but gave up three hits.
Alvarez was able to preserve his perfect ERA for the season, but wasn't particularly impressive in doing so Tuesday, as he required 28 pitches and worked around three singles to record four outs. The Rangers bullpen remains in flux at the back end with Sam Dyson (hand) landing on the disabled list as he was on his way out as closer, but it doesn't look like Alvarez is high up on the pecking order for save chances. Manager Jeff Banister confirmed that Matt Bush would get the first crack at the ninth inning, and after Bush, Jeremy Jeffress and Jose Leclerc are probably next in line.

Rangers' Dario Alvarez: Named to Opening Day roster
Alvarez has made the Rangers' Opening Day roster, TR Sullivan of MLB.com reports.
Alvarez has dazzled in Cactus League play this spring, allowing just one run over 11.1 innings and adding 11 strikeouts. The veteran left-hander split time between the majors and Triple-A Round Rock after being acquired from the Braves last season, but appears poised for a larger role in the bullpen as spring camp comes to a close. Expect him to receive plenty of middle-relief opportunities in the early going.

Rangers' Dario Alvarez: Recalled from Triple-A
Alvarez was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock on Friday.
With Jeremy Jeffress being placed on the restricted list, Alvarez will return to the Rangers and provide additional bullpen depth. Alvarez has pitched just 1.2 innings with Texas this season, during which he allowed two runs off five hits. However, his performance with Round Rock has been much better. After six games (eight innings), Alvarez has a 2.25 ERA and 10 strikeouts.
