  • Mariners' Rangel Ravelo: Removed from big-league camp

The Mariners reassigned Ravelo to minor-league camp Saturday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

After signing an NRI deal with Seattle in the offseason, Ravelo appeared in just two games and logged one hit in four trips to the plate. Ravelo slashed .310/.428/.473 with 35 RBI with the Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate last year, and he may see time in the big leagues this season if his bat stays hot in the minors.

  • Mariners' Rangel Ravelo: Inks minors deal

Ravelo signed a minor-league contract with the Mariners on Nov. 16.

A 31-year-old first baseman, Ravelo slashed .310/.428/.473 with eight home runs in 59 games for the Padres' Triple-A affiliate in 2023. Seattle marks his sixth franchise. He last played in the majors for the Cardinals in 2020.

  • Padres' Rangel Ravelo: Reassigned to MiLB camp

Ravelo was reassigned to minor-league camp by the Padres on Friday.

The 30-year-old first baseman slashed .276/.405/.448 in the spring and will return to Triple-A, where he boasted a 1.262 OPS in 2021. If Ravelo can maintain a similar level of success in the minors, there's a solid chance he returns to the big leagues at some point this season.

  • Padres' Rangel Ravelo: Signs minor-league contract

Ravelo signed a minor-league contract Wednesday with the Padres which includes an invitation to major-league spring training.

Ravelo spent most of the last two years in Nippon Professional Baseball, and his numbers were less than spectacular in 2022 with the Orix Buffaloes. The 30-year-old first baseman and corner outfielder will probably be nothing more than minor-league depth for San Diego in 2023.

  • Rangel Ravelo: En route to Japan

The Dodgers agreed Monday to sell Ravelo's minor-league contract to an unspecified team in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball, Francys Romero of MLB.com reports.

Despite posting a massive .407/.504/.758 slash line through his 113 plate appearances at Triple-A Oklahoma City this season, the 29-year-old Ravelo appeared unlikely to receive a promotion to the big club anytime soon. With that in mind, Ravelo has chosen to pursue work overseas in Japan, where he could immediately become one of the top sluggers on the circuit. Ravelo previously saw big-league action with the Cardinals in 2019 and 2020, supplying a .601 OPS over 84 career plate appearances.

  • Dodgers' Rangel Ravelo: Receives demotion

The Dodgers reassigned Ravelo to their minor-league camp Tuesday, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

After joining the Dodgers on a minor-league deal over the winter, Ravelo is expected to handle a near-everyday role at Triple-A Oklahoma City this season. The 28-year-old has shown a quality combination of contact and on-base skills during his various stops in the minors, but he hasn't been able to translate that success to the majors. Over his 84 plate appearances with the Cardinals across the last two seasons, Ravelo submitted a .189/.250/.351 slash line (57 wRC+).

  • Dodgers' Rangel Ravelo: Invited to camp by Dodgers

Ravelo joined the Dodgers as a non-roster invitee Tuesday, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.

Ravelo has appeared in 42 big-league games over the last two seasons with the Cardinals, but he's landed in a spot where it could be difficult to get back to that level. He's hit just .189/.250/.351 in those games, so he has plenty to prove if he's to earn a roster spot.

  • Cardinals' Rangel Ravelo: Non-tendered by Cardinals

Ravelo was non-tendered by the Cardinals on Wednesday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.

There really wasn't anywhere for Ravelo to play last season, and with the uncertainty surrounding the DH in the NL for 2021, it's not surprising he was cut loose. The 28-year-old first baseman hit .189 with three home runs in 84 plate appearances over the past two seasons.

  • Cardinals' Rangel Ravelo: Big performance in matinee

Ravelo went 2-for-2 with a walk, a home run, two runs scored and three RBI during a 12-2 win over the Tigers in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader.

Getting the start as the DH in the matinee, Ravelo connected off Nick Ramirez in the sixth inning for his first homer of 2020. The 28-year-old has gone 4-for-11 since rejoining the Cards' roster with five RBI in three games.

  • Cardinals' Rangel Ravelo: First appearance since activation

Ravelo went 1-for-5 with an RBI double in a win over the Cubs on Sunday.

Ravelo drew the start at designated hitter for only his second game action of the season, a campaign during which he had to overcome a COVID-19 infection that was part of the team's outbreak in August. The 28-year-old's third-inning double Sunday plated Tyler O'Neill to give the Cardinals a 5-3 lead and Ravelo his first RBI since Sept. 25 of last season. Now that he's healthy, Ravelo may have a chance at semi-regular playing time at either DH or as a potential fill-in at a corner infield spot for what remains of the regular season.

  • Cardinals' Rangel Ravelo: Activated from injured list

Ravelo (illness) was activated from the COVID-19 injured list Wednesday.

Ravelo was caught up in the Cardinals' early-season COVID-19 outbreak and has been off the roster since that time, though he's been able to work out at the Cardinals' secondary site for over two weeks. He'll likely be little more than a bench bat during his time with the team, as he's shown very little through his first 45 big-league plate appearances, hitting .195/.244/.390. Dexter Fowler landed on the injured list for undisclosed reasons in a corresponding move.

  • Cardinals' Rangel Ravelo: Working in Springfield

Ravelo (illness) is set to start getting at-bats at the Cardinals' alternate training site in Springfield, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

The utility asset is one of a multitude of Cardinals players working his way through the COVID-19 reentry process. Ravelo was cleared for baseball activities Tuesday, and if he's able to demonstrate his timing at the plate is solid in Springfield, he could be deemed ready for activation in fairly short order.

  • Cardinals' Rangel Ravelo: Cleared to resume activity

Ravelo (illness) was cleared to resume activity Tuesday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Ravelo was among the Cardinals' positive tests for COVID-19, but he resumed workouts Tuesday. It's unclear what shape he's in or when he'll return to the active roster. Once he's ready for game action, the 28-year-old should resume a depth role for the Cardinals.

  • Cardinals' Rangel Ravelo: Part of COVID-19 outbreak

Ravelo is one of the Cardinals who have tested positive for COVID-19.

The Cardinals have been shut down for a week to avoid a further spread of the virus. Ravelo has appeared in just one game this season.

  • Cardinals' Rangel Ravelo: Placed on injured list

Ravelo (illness) was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Wednesday.

Ravelo was one of the players that gave the Cardinals permission to release the news of his positive diagnosis for COVID-19 amid the team's outbreak, and his placement on the injured list will free up a spot on the active roster. The 28-year-old will be eligible to return to the team once he produces two consecutive negative tests. The Cardinals purchased Max Schrock's contract in a corresponding move to fill Ravelo's depth role on the roster.

  • Cardinals' Rangel Ravelo: Still projected for some DH duty

Now that the universal implementation of the designated hitter in 2020 is official, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports Ravelo could be one of several players the Cardinals deploy in that spot.

Ravelo originally projected to serve as the team's primary pinch hitter, a role the departed Jose Martinez held last season. However, with the DH rule now offering manager Mike Shildt an opportunity to get an extra bat into the lineup each day, president of baseball operations John Mozeliak specifically mentioned Ravelo as an option to rotate into the spot on occasion. The long-time minor-leaguer finally got his first majors break last season, slashing .205/.256/.410 across 43 plate appearances.

  • Cardinals' Rangel Ravelo: Likely strong DH candidate

Ravelo would be a natural candidate to frequently slot in at designated hitter if the position is instituted universally during an abbreviated 2020 season, Rick Hummel of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Ravelo was already on track to stick as a reserve first baseman and pinch hitter when spring training was suspended, but the likelihood the DH slot becomes one manager Mike Shildt regularly has to fill potentially gives the 28-year-old a chance to play on a near everyday basis. Ravelo finally saw his first big-league regular-season action in 2019 after toiling for 10 seasons in the minors, and he hit .237 (9-for-38) across 14 Grapefruit League games before play was paused.
