Mariners' Nick Rumbelow: Clears waivers
Rumbelow cleared waivers Wednesday and was outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma.
It's hardly surprising that Rumbelow's 9.19 Triple-A ERA wasn't appealing enough for another team to claim him off waivers. He'll remain in the Mariners organization but doesn't appear to be close to returning to the big leagues.

Rumbelow made three appearances for the Mariners back in March but was removed from the 25-man roster after allowing four runs while recording just four outs. Rumbelow was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
Rumbelow has one save in his three appearances but has also allowed four runs in just 1.1 innings of work. As a mediocre reliever with options, he'll likely bounce between Seattle and Tacoma for much of the season. The move clears room on the 25-man roster for Connor Sadzeck, who was acquired in a trade with Texas on Monday.

Mariners' Nick Rumbelow: Gets one-out save
Rumbelow struck out Xander Bogaerts to get the final out Saturday night and record the save.
Zac Rosscup began the ninth inning in a non-save situation with a 6-2 lead and conceded a hit and walk along with two outs, but Dylan Moore then committed three errors in a row at third base -- the first two with Rosscup on the mound and the third with Rumbelow pitching -- bringing the score to 6-5 before Rumbelow finally got the third out. For what it's worth, Cory Gearrin pitched the last two days, so he still may be in the mix for future saves. Notably, both Rumbelow and Gearrin were mentioned by manager Scott Servais on Saturday as two of several candidates for save opportunities during Hunter Strickland's (lat) stint on the injured list, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.

Mariners' Nick Rumbelow: Impressive in final spring frame
Rumbelow allowed a hit over a scoreless ninth inning in an exhibition loss to the Padres on Tuesday but recorded three strikeouts.
Rumbelow wrapped up a stellar spring with a dominating ninth-inning performance Tuesday, sandwiching strikeouts of Jose Pirela, Greg Garcia and Franchy Cordero around an Austin Hedges single. Rumbelow scuffled in a couple of stints with the Mariners in 2018 (6.11 ERA, 1.42 WHIP) and also was tagged for three earned runs on two hits and a walk over a third of an inning by the Athletics in last week's season-opening series in Japan. However, he offered reason for optimism with his body of work this spring, during which he posted a 1.50 ERA over five appearances. Rumbelow projects for a middle-relief role, with his near-mid-90s fastball giving him some strikeout upside.

Rumbelow has been dealing with some shoulder discomfort and a compressed nerve in his neck over the past couple months, but the 26-year-old has finally resumed throwing. He will likely need a few more weeks to get up to speed, though the club has yet to describe any sort of timetable for the right-hander. Expect an update once he's able to throw off the mound without any discomfort.
