Top Wendell Rijo News

  • Yankees' Wendell Rijo: Struggling with Trenton

Rijo is slashing .243/.309/.338 with zero home runs and one steal in 74 at-bats with Double-A Trenton.

He was shipped to New York from Milwaukee as part of the deal that sent backup catcher Erik Kratz to the Brewers earlier this summer, but has struggled to get going in his new organization. At best, he profiles as a utility player off the bench in the big leagues, but may not even achieve that level of professional success.

  • Twins' Wendell Rijo: Headed to Minnesota

Rijo and Tyler Austin were dealt from the Yankees to the Twins on Monday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

Rijo didn't spend much time within the Yankees' organization, as he was traded from the Brewers on June 16. The 22-year-old has yet to surpass the Double-A level, and he slashed just .230/.296/.324 with seven doubles and five RBI through 21 games at Double-A Trenton. Rijo figures to serve as organizational depth for the time being.

  • Yankees' Wendell Rijo: Shipped to Yankees

Rijo was acquired from the Brewers as the player to be named later in the May 25 trade that sent Erik Kratz to Milwaukee.

Rijo will be assigned to High-A Tampa. The young second baseman seems to have stalled out at Double-A, hitting just .189/.267/.281 in parts of three seasons at that level.

  • Brewers' Wendell Rijo: Advances up organizational ladder

Rijo was promoted to Double-A Biloxi on Wednesday.

In 15 games with High-A Carolina, the 21-year-old infielder got on base at a .400 clip thanks to a 16.4 percent walk rate. Although his batting average is a bit sub-par, Rijo will look to carry his excellent plate discipline into his new assignment with the Shuckers.

  • Brewers' Wendell Rijo: Dealt to Brewers

Rijo was traded to the Brewers on Thursday.

The 20-year-old adds organizational depth to the Brewers' farm system after playing nearly four seasons in Boston's lower levels of the minor leagues. Rijo began the year at Double-A Portland, but his struggles at the plate (.186/.245/.266 slash line) resulted in him being sent down to High-A Salem. According to Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Rijo will be assigned to High-A Brevard County.

  • Red Sox's Wendell Rijo: Demoted to High-A

Rijo was demoted from Double-A Portland to High-A Salem, Alex Speier of the Boston Globe reports.

The 20-year-old Rijo has been playing with older competition every year while in the Boston organization and it looks like it finally caught up with him at Portland. He hit .186/.245/.266 with 46 strikeouts and 13 walks in 194 plate appearances for the Sea Dogs.
