Top Yoan Moncada News

  • Angels' Yoan Moncada: Idle against lefty

Moncada is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

After starting against right-handed pitchers in the first two games of the series, the switch-hitting Moncada will hit the bench Wednesday with southpaw Noah Schultz on the bump for Chicago. Moncada has gone 1-for-19 with a 3:11 BB:K in 23 plate appearances versus left-handed pitching this season.

  • Angels' Yoan Moncada: Taking seat again Sunday

Moncada is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.

The Angels will keep Moncada on the bench for the second straight matchup with a right-handed pitcher, as Oswald Peraza will get the nod at third base against Mets righty Clay Holmes in the series finale. Manager Kurt Suzuki hasn't indicated that Moncada is on shaky ground atop the depth chart, as the skipper may have just wanted to reward Peraza with another start after a three-hit effort in Saturday's 4-3 extra-inning win.

  • Angels' Yoan Moncada: Not starting Saturday

Moncada isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Mets, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports.

Moncada will take a day to reset Saturday after going 0-for-11 with six strikeouts in his last four games. Oswald Peraza will fill in at third base and bat eighth.

  • Angels' Yoan Moncada: Sitting amid lefty-heavy stretch

Moncada is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the White Sox, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports.

Moncada is a switch hitter, but since he's been far more productive against right-handers (112 wRC+) than left-handers (91 wRC+) throughout his career, the Angels have been deploying him as a strong-side platoon player. He'll hit the bench Monday for the fifth time in six games, with each of his absences coming against lefty starters.

  • Angels' Yoan Moncada: Idle versus lefty again

Moncada is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

The switch-hitting Moncada has just one hit in 18 at-bats versus left-handed pitching this season, so the Angels will keep him on the bench for the second straight day while the Blue Jays send another southpaw (Eric Lauer) to the hill. Oswald Peraza will fill in for Moncada at third base and will bat fifth.

  • Angels' Yoan Moncada: Sitting down Tuesday

Moncada isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays, Jack Janes of TheSportingTribune.com reports.

Moncada will get a breather after making four consecutive starts, during which he went 2-for-14 with a homer and three walks. Oswald Peraza will fill in at the hot corner and bat fifth.

  • Angels' Yoan Moncada: Blasts third homer

Moncada went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's 8-0 win over the Padres.

Moncada has started to turn things around lately. He's gone 7-for-22 (.318) over his last six games, adding two homers and five RBI in that span. The third baseman is still batting just .172 on the year, but he's nudged his OPS up to .686 while adding three homers, eight RBI, eight runs scored and a triple over 17 contests. Moncada's got a lot of work to do to get his numbers into a respectable range, and injuries are always a lingering concern for him -- he's fallen short of 110 games played in four straight seasons. Even at his best, he puts up relatively modest numbers across the board.

  • Angels' Yoan Moncada: Taking seat against lefty

Moncada is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Yankees, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

The switch-hitting Moncada has fared much better against right-handed pitching (.774 OPS) than left-handed pitching (.699 OPS) for his career, so he'll take a seat against Yankees southpaw Max Fried in a day game after a night game. Oswald Peraza will replace Moncada at third base and will bat cleanup.

  • Angels' Yoan Moncada: Homers, drives in three in win

Moncada went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and three RBI in Tuesday's 7-1 win over the Yankees.

Moncada was twice a strikeout victim of Ryan Weathers in his first two plate appearances before singling home a pair of runs against Paul Blackburn in the sixth. Moncada then took Yerry De Los Santos deep in the eighth. After an extremely slow start to the season, Moncada has three multi-hit games in his last four appearances and is now slashing .184/.355/.347 with two home runs, seven RBI, seven runs scored and an 11:23 BB:K across 62 trips to the plate.

  • Angels' Yoan Moncada: Taking seat Tuesday

Moncada is not in the lineup for Tuesday's contest against the Cubs.

  • Angels' Yoan Moncada: Homers in loss to Chicago

Moncada went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in Monday's 7-2 loss to the Cubs.

Moncada's two-run shot off Colin Rea in the seventh inning accounted for all of the scoring for the Angels on Monday. Most importantly, Moncada is healthy and has started all five games to begin the season. He's 2-for-17 at the plate with the two-run homer and a 5:5 BB:K to begin the 2026 campaign.

  • Angels' Yoan Moncada: Coming into camp lighter

Moncada reported to spring training Sunday 20 pounds lighter, and he hopes the reduced weight will help him stay healthy, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Moncada re-signed with the Angels on a one-year, $4 million contract in January after posting a .234/.336/.448 slash line with 12 home runs in 84 games last year. The 30-year-old spent time on the injured list with thumb and knee injuries, marking the third straight season in which he's played in fewer than 100 games.

  • Angels' Yoan Moncada: Returning to Anaheim

Moncada signed a one-year, $4 million contract with the Angels on Wednesday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Injuries limited Moncada to playing in fewer than 100 games during 2025 for a third straight season. He was fairly effective when healthy, however, slashing .234/.336/.448 with 12 homers, 35 RBI and 39 runs scored across 289 plate appearances. He'll presumably reprise his role as the Halos' primary third baseman in 2026, but his inability to stay on the field remains a significant concern for fantasy managers.

  • Angels' Yoan Moncada: Sitting out third straight game

Moncada is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros.

Moncada will take a seat for a third straight game to close out the season as the Angels go with Luis Rengifo at third base. The 30-year-old Moncada is headed for free agency this winter, and his lack of starts in the final series of the season could be an indication that the Angels aren't interested in re-signing him. Over 289 plate appearances, Moncada has slashed .234/.336/.448 with 12 home runs, 35 RBI and 39 runs.

Moncada is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's matchup with Houston.

Moncada will take a seat for the second day in a row as he's in the midst of a 2-for-21 stretch at the plate. Luis Rengifo will draw the start at third base and bat leadoff against the Astros.
