  • Red Sox's Sal Romano: Gets minors deal from Boston

The Red Sox signed Romano to a minor-league contract Friday.

Romano has been assigned to Triple-A Worcester and could be used as both a starter and reliever. The 30-year-old split time between the rotation and bullpen in independent ball last year, and he last appeared in the majors in 2021.

  • Mariners' Sal Romano: Beginning season at Triple-A

Romano was assigned to minor-league camp Saturday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Romano signed a minor-league contract with a major league invite March 22, but he'll start the year with Triple-A Tacoma. The reliever only pitched one-third of an inning this spring, allowing one hit and no runs. As a member of the Reds, Brewers and Yankees in 2021, Romano posted a putrid 6.12 ERA and 1.68 WHIP.

Romano agreed Tuesday with the Mariners on a minor-league contract, Corey Brock of The Athletic reports.

Romano will attend Seattle's big-league camp as a non-roster invitee, but he's more likely to begin the campaign at Triple-A Tacoma than with the big club. • Sal Romano: Cut loose by Yanks

The Yankees released Romano (finger) on Monday.

Romano presumably isn't back to full health yet after the Yankees placed him on the injured list Wednesday with a right index finger sprain, but the big club won't bother waiting on his return. Instead, New York will cut Romano loose to free up a spot on the 40-man roster for Luis Severino (shoulder), who was reinstated from the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Yankees' Sal Romano: IL bound with finger sprain

Romano was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday with a right index finger sprain, retroactive to Wednesday.

Romano was labeled day-to-day after being hit by a line drive on his right hand during Tuesday's win over Baltimore. It looked like he could be in line to avoid the injured list after X-rays came back negative, but he apparently is experiencing enough discomfort to warrant a move to the IL after all. He'll be eligible to be reinstated Sept. 25 against the Red Sox, but depending on how long he needs to recover, it's possible he doesn't return during the regular season. Reliever Clarke Schmidt was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to replace Romano on the 28-man roster.

  • Yankees' Sal Romano: Injures hand, X-rays negative

Romano took a line drive off his right hand in the ninth inning of Tuesday's win against Baltimore and was forced to exit the game. Manager Aaron Boone indicated after the contest that X-rays were negative and that Romano is expected to be evaluated on a day-to-day basis, MLB.com reports.

The reliever was brought back to the Yankees on a major-league deal Tuesday after being DFA'd by the team last week. He was summoned to protect a big lead in the ninth inning but managed to retire only one batter before the hand injury resulted in his departure. Romano was charged with one run on two hits and one walk while striking out one in the outing. It isn't yet clear how long he could be out of action.

  • Yankees' Sal Romano: Back with Yankees on majors deal

Romano signed a major-league contract with the Yankees on Tuesday.

Romano elected free agency after clearing waivers Monday, but now he'll remain with the Yankees and reclaim his spot on the major-league roster. The right-hander holds a 5.84 ERA and 1.58 WHIP across 24.2 innings with the Reds, Brewers and Yankees this season, and he figures to work in low-leverage spots for New York going forward. Brooks Kriske was designated for assignment to make room for Romano on the 28-man and 40-man rosters.

  • Sal Romano: Elects free agency

Romano became a free agent after declining an outright assignment Monday.

Romano cleared waivers earlier in the day, but instead of heading to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, he'll try his luck in free agency. He spent time with the Reds, Brewers and Yankees in 2021, accruing a 5.84 ERA and 1.58 WHIP with a 16:10 K:BB across 24.2 innings.

  • Yankees' Sal Romano: Outrighted to Triple-A

Romano cleared waivers Monday and was outrighted to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Romano's 5.84 ERA season and 5.20 career mark mean it's unsurprising to see him pass through waivers unclaimed. He'll remain as organizational depth for the Yankees going forward.

  • Yankees' Sal Romano: DFA'd Friday

Romano was designated for assignment by the Yankees on Friday.

His lone appearance with the Yankees resulted in him taking the loss after allowing a run on two hits and a walk Thursday against the Blue Jays. He holds a 5.84 ERA and 1.58 WHIP across 24.2 major-league innings this season, so it's possible he goes unclaimed on waivers and remains in the New York organization.

  • Yankees' Sal Romano: Takes loss Thursday

Romano (0-2) allowed a run on two hits, a hit batter and a walk with one strikeout in two-thirds of an inning, taking the loss Thursday versus Toronto.

The 27-year-old retired the first two batters he faced but then allowed four straight to reach, including a go-ahead RBI single from Bo Bichette. That was enough to stick Romano with the loss in his first appearance during his second stint this year with the Yankees. He owns a 5.84 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 16:10 K:BB across 24.2 innings with three different teams in 2021, and he figures to serve a low-leverage role with New York.

Romano was claimed off waivers by the Brewers from the Yankees on Tuesday.

Romano posted a 4.70 ERA across 23 big-league innings with the Reds and Yankees this season before being DFA'd by New York on Saturday. He'll now head to the Milwaukee organization, and because he doesn't have any minor-league options remaining, he should immediately join the big-league bullpen.

Romano was designated for assignment by the Yankees on Saturday.

Romano made two relief appearances after his contract was selected last week, and he allowed three hits and no walks while striking out three in 2.1 scoreless innings. Saturday's transaction will clear a spot on the 40-man roster for left-hander Andrew Heaney.

Romano signed a minor-league deal with the Yankees on Friday, Conor Foley of The Scranton Times-Tribune reports.

The 27-year-old had a 5.23 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 12:9 K:BB through 20.2 innings this season, leading to his removal from the 40-man roster. Romano could remain in the organization if he goes unclaimed on waivers.

  • Reds' Sal Romano: Off to poor start

Romano has allowed at least a run in his last four outings and five of seven so far, including a two-run homer to Jordan Luplow on Sunday.

Romano is out of options, which helped him make the Reds' roster out of spring training, but his roster slot could be precarious. He has allowed four homers in 12.1 innings already, and has struck out only six batters.
