Marlins' Shawn Morimando: Remains in organization
The Marlins outrighted Morimando to Triple-A Jacksonville on Monday.
Predictably, Morimando -- a 28-year-old journeyman reliever with six career MLB relief appearances -- attracted no interest when the Marlins exposed him to waivers over the weekend. He'll remain on hand as bullpen depth at Jacksonville, but his lack of a 40-man roster spot will hurt his chances of earning another call-up to the majors before season's end.

Marlins' Shawn Morimando: DFA'd Saturday
The Marlins designated Morimando for assignment Saturday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Morimando got knocked around in Friday's contest, giving up three runs on seven hits in 2.2 innings of relief. The lefty has allowed at least three runs in three of his four appearances this season en route to a 9.58 ERA, so it would be surprising to see him pitch for the Marlins again in 2021.

Marlins' Shawn Morimando: Rejoins major-league bullpen
Morimando's contract was selected by the Marlins on Monday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Morimando made two relief appearances for the Marlins earlier in the year and allowed four runs on seven hits and five walks while striking out five in 5.2 innings. He'll provide bullpen depth after left-hander Sean Guenther was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville on Monday.

Marlins' Shawn Morimando: Clears waivers
Morimando has cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Morimando was DFA'd on Saturday despite tossing five scoreless relief innings in Friday's loss to Atlanta. He didn't attract any interest on the waiver wire, so he'll remain in the Miami system going forward, though now without a spot on the 40-man roster. Morimando will resume his Triple-A campaign with a 6.35 ERA and 2.12 WHIP.

Marlins' Shawn Morimando: Designated for assignment
Morimando was designated for assignment by the Marlins on Saturday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Morimando spent a single day on the Marlins' roster, but was effective in his lone appearance, tossing five scoreless innings of relief. His reward: being removed from the 40-man roster entirely, with Preston Guilmet's contract getting selected in a corresponding move.

Marlins' Shawn Morimando: Shuts down Atlanta as bulk reliever
Morimando didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 5-0 loss to Atlanta, giving up three hits and four walks over five scoreless innings of relief. He struck out five.
The southpaw was the only Miami pitcher to be at all effective on the night as he tossed 52 of 90 pitches for strikes behind opener Anthony Bass. Given how banged up the team's rotation is, this effort as a bulk reliever could earn Morimando more work after the All-Star break, but his numbers at Triple-A this season leave a lot to be desired (4.87 ERA, 1.52 WHIP in 44.1 innings).

Marlins' Shawn Morimando: Contract selected by Miami
Morimando had his contract selected by the Marlins on Friday.
The left-hander stuck around in the organization after being designated for assignment by Miami in late May, and he'll now receive another big-league opportunity. Morimando has appeared in only one game for the Marlins and has a 4.87 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 40:20 K:BB across 44.1 innings (nine starts) at Triple-A this season. He could provide some length behind opener Anthony Bass on Friday after scheduled starter Zach Thompson (illness) was scratched.

Marlins' Shawn Morimando: Designated for assignment
Morimando was designated for assignment by the Marlins on Wednesday.
Morimando's contract was selected by the Marlins on Saturday, and he allowed four runs on four hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning Monday. He'll now be removed from the 40-man roster after Nick Neidert was called up in a corresponding move.

Marlins' Shawn Morimando: Called up by Marlins
The Marlins added Morimando to their active roster Saturday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
The 2011 draft pick has made just two big-league appearances, both in relief with Cleveland in 2016, and he has struggled to the tune of a 5.11 ERA in 12.1 innings as a starter at Triple-A this season. Morimando fills the roster spot of Jordan Holloway (groin), who was placed on the injured list Saturday.

Marlins' Shawn Morimando: Sent to minors camp
The Marlins reassigned Morimando to their minor-league camp Tuesday, Ethan Budowsky of FishStripes.com reports.
A non-roster invitee, Morimando was a long shot to earn a spot in the Marlins' Opening Day bullpen. The 28-year-old has two MLB relief appearances to his name, both of which came with Cleveland back in 2016.

Blue Jays' Shawn Morimando: Will pitch in AFL
Morimando will represent the Blue Jays in the Arizona Fall League, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet reports.
The 25-year-old southpaw, who's split 12 minor-league starts between the Indians and Blue Jays -- including a 5.14 ERA in three starts for Triple-A Buffalo -- will look to improve his big-league chances in the autumn showcase for youngsters. Morimando probably will try fighting for a depth spot on a big-league roster next spring if he performs decently.

Shawn Morimando: Released by Cleveland
The Indians released Morimando (shoulder) on Sunday, Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com reports.
The transaction clears a spot on the Indians' 40-man roster for lefty reliever Marc Rzepczynski, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Columbus prior to Cleveland's game Sunday in Oakland. Morimando hasn't appeared in the big leagues since 2016 and was limited to five starts for Columbus this season before being shut down in early May with a sore left shoulder. Morimando has yet to return to the mound and will need to prove his health in workouts before signing with another team.

Indians' Shawn Morimando: Lands on MiLB DL
Morimando was placed on the disabled list with Triple-A Columbus due to left shoulder soreness Tuesday.
The southpaw gave up five runs and walked four batters in four innings Monday, so it wouldn't be surprising to find out that the shoulder injury cropped up during that outing. It's unclear how severe the injury is, but Morimando could wind up being out for as little as a week per the minor-league DL rules. Shane Bieber will replace him on the Clippers' active roster for the time being.

Indians' Shawn Morimando: Optioned to Triple-A
Morimando was optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Monday, T.J. Zuppe of The Athletic Cleveland reports.
The 25-year-old lefty had a brief cup of coffee in 2016, giving up six earned runs in 4.2 innings. He had a 4.41 ERA in 26 starts for Columbus last season with an unimpressive 18.4 percent strikeout rate. As a lefty sitting in Triple-A, he'll never be far from a callup to the bullpen, and the Indians have only Tyler Olson (just 36 career innings) and Andrew Miller (too important for a lefty specialist role) as southpaws in relief. He may return to the majors this season, but his track record gives little reason to believe he'll be much of a fantasy asset once he gets there.

Indians' Shawn Morimando: Summoned from Triple-A
The Indians recalled Morimando from Triple-A Columbus on Friday.
The southpaw missed out on an Opening Day roster spot but made 26 starts for the Clippers, though they resulted in a 4.41 ERA. Morimando will serve as a depth piece for the expanded September pitching staff.

Indians' Shawn Morimando: Finding success in minors
Morimando tossed seven shutout innings Thursday, allowing just four hits and one walk while striking out six for Triple-A Columbus.
The left-hander missed out on an Opening Day job with the Indians, then proceeded to pitch terribly at Columbus to open the year. Morimando looks back on track now, though. Over his last two starts, the 24-year-old has logged 13 frames without giving up an earned run while striking out 13. Morimando is a candidate to join the Indians bullpen later in the 2017 campaign.

Indians' Shawn Morimando: Picks up first win of 2017 at Triple-A
Morimando picked up his first win of the year for Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday versus Lehigh Valley.
The left-hander was eyeing a big-league job when spring training opened, but was ultimately sent down to provide the organization with rotation depth. Morimando's early-season struggles with Columbus certainly haven't helped his chances of earning a spot start for the Tribe anytime soon. Through four starts, the 24-year-old is 1-3 with a 6.65 ERA and 1.75 WHIP, struggling with command (14:11 K:BB) and getting tagged by opposing hitters (.307 BAA) over 21.2 innings.

Indians' Shawn Morimando: Optioned to Triple-A
Morimando was optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Monday.
Morimando entered camp with a legitimate shot to make the Tribe bullpen, but he'll head back to the minors after struggling over four Cactus Leagues appearances. The left-hander allowed six runs on 12 hits and two walks while striking out 11 over 8.2 innings this spring. Morimando has started 132 games in the minors since 2012, and he'll continue providing the Tribe with rotation depth from Columbus.

Indians' Shawn Morimando: Throws two innings in spring debut
Morimando allowed a run on three hits and one walk while striking out two Cubs in Sunday's exhibition matchup.
Even though he allowed a run, Morimando looked solid in his first appearance of the spring. The righty has been a starter throughout his professional career, but will need to adjust his mindset in order to make the Tribe's Opening Day roster. Morimando is a realistic bullpen option that can serve in a long-relief role and possibly make a spot start when needed.
