White Sox's Enyel De Los Santos: Claimed by White Sox
The White Sox claimed De Los Santos off waivers from the Yankees on Saturday.
De Los Santos will move on to his third team in less than a month, as the Padres traded him to the Yankees on July 30 before he New York designated him for assignment Wednesday. Though he was moved off the Yankees' 40-man roster after giving up seven earned runs in a 1.2-inning relief appearance against this same White Sox squad, Chicago evidently felt that De Los Santos' stronger body of work over parts of six big-league seasons made him worthy enough for a spot in the bullpen. Since he doesn't have minor-league options remaining, De Los Santos will report to the big club.

Yankees' Enyel De Los Santos: Departs 40-man roster
The Yankees designated De Los Santos for assignment Wednesday.
The move comes two days after De Los Santos was bludgeoned for seven runs over a 1.2-inning relief appearance versus the White Sox. While his brief tenure with the Yankees has gone poorly, De Los Santos has a career 25.6 percent strikeout rate as a reliever and is under team control through 2026, so he could draw interest via trade or waivers.

Yankees' Enyel De Los Santos: Acquired by Yankees
The Yankees acquired De Los Santos and right-hander Thomas Balboni from the Padres in exchange for outfielder Brandon Lockridge on Tuesday.
De Los Santos had a 4.46 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 48:13 K:BB over 40.1 innings for the Padres this season, but he was expendable with the club adding major bullpen pieces at the deadline. The right-handed journeyman had a 3.18 ERA in 120 outings for the Guardians across the previous two seasons, and he's likely to work in middle relief for the Yankees.

Padres' Enyel De Los Santos: Grabs five-out save
De Los Santos allowed a hit and struck out two over 1.2 scoreless innings to earn the save in Friday's 9-5 win over the Brewers.
Not often part of the high-leverage mix, De Los Santos got a chance to protect a three-run lead in the eighth inning. After the Padres added an insurance run, he pitched the ninth to earn his first save since 2022, when he was with the Guardians. The right-hander has put together an okay season with a 3.41 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 38:9 K:BB over 31.2 innings, and he's added seven holds. His big problem has been the long ball -- De Los Santos has yielded nine home runs after giving up a total of seven homers across his previous two campaigns combined.

Padres' Enyel De Los Santos: Picks up fifth hold
De Los Santos registered a hold against Atlanta on Friday, striking out one batter over a perfect two-thirds of an inning.
De Los Santos entered in the seventh frame with the tying run at the plate and struck out Zack Short before getting Ronald Acuna to fly out to escape the danger. The hold was the first this month for the right-hander hurler, who had given up a homer in three of his previous four outings prior to Friday. The long ball has been an issue for De Los Santos this season -- of the six earned runs he's allowed, five have come on solo homers -- but he's otherwise been solid, posting a 3.12 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 23:4 K:BB while collecting five holds across 17.1 innings.

The Guardians sent De Los Santos to San Diego earlier in the offseason in exchange for Scott Barlow. San Diego acquired De Los Santos from the Guardians on Friday in exchange for Scott Barlow.
De Los Santos, 27, registered a sharp 3.18 ERA with 123 strikeouts over 119 innings during his two-year run in Cleveland. The right-hander logged 70 relief appearances in 2023 and could be a bullpen workhorse for the Padres next season.

Guardians' Enyel De Los Santos: Emerges as reliable reliever
De Los Santos finished the season tied for 18th in the majors with 70 appearances.
De Los Santos was a trusted part of the Guardians' bullpen throughout the year, though he wavered with a 5.59 ERA in September. He tossed a scoreless inning in Sunday's season-ending 5-2 loss to the Tigers. Overall, De Los Santos posted a 3.29 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 62:25 K:BB over 65.2 innings while adding 16 holds, a 5-2 record and three blown saves. With Emmanuel Clase in place as closer, De Los Santos is unlikely to see ninth-inning assignments often as long as he remains with Cleveland.

Guardians' Enyel De Los Santos: Picks up win in nightcap
De Los Santos (5-2) struck out the only batter he faced and earned the win in Game 2 of Friday's doubleheader versus the Tigers.
De Los Santos got the last out in the top of the eighth inning, and the Guardians' offense rallied ahead in their half of the frame. He's allowed four runs over 6.2 innings in August, but he still has a solid 8:1 K:BB for the month, suggesting he's had a little bad luck. The right-hander is at a 2.84 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 46:19 K:BB while adding 13 holds over 50.2 innings this year as part of the bridge to closer Emmanuel Clase.

Guardians' Enyel De Los Santos: Takes loss Monday
De Los Santos (4-2) allowed two runs on two hits in one inning to take the loss Monday versus the Blue Jays.
Starter Gavin Williams pitched seven innings of one-hit ball, but De Los Santos couldn't keep the momentum in Cleveland's favor, allowing a two-run home run to Cavan Biggio in the eighth. The homer ended a 10-inning scoreless streak for De Los Santos, who had a 9:3 K:BB with four holds in that span. The right-hander has emerged as a solid setup man for the Guardians with a 2.61 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 42:18 K:BB over 48.1 innings while adding 11 holds this season. He slots in behind Emmanuel Clase and Trevor Stephan in the Guardians' late-inning mix.

Guardians' Enyel De Los Santos: Collects fourth win
De Los Santos (4-1) pitched a perfect inning to earn the extra-inning win over Atlanta on Tuesday.
De Los Santos worked the 10th inning and got some help on an outfield assist from Myles Straw to nab the potential go-ahead runner at the plate on a double play. David Fry then walked it off in the bottom of the 10th. De Los Santos has allowed just two hits while striking out five over his seven-inning scoreless streak. For the season, he's at a 2.57 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 31:13 K:BB while adding six holds and a blown save over 35 innings. He's not firmly in the high-leverage mix, but he's pitched well enough to be trusted to protect leads.

Guardians' Enyel De Los Santos: Secures extra-inning win
De Los Santos (3-1) struck out one without giving up a hit or a walk in a scoreless inning to earn the extra-inning win over the Athletics on Tuesday.
De Los Santos pitched the 10th inning, and aside from a passed ball charged to catcher David Fry that moved the initial runner to third base, it was a sharp performance. Through eight appearances in June, De Los Santos has kept runs off the board five times, though a four-run meltdown versus the Red Sox on June 6 makes his numbers for the month look bad. He's been an effective middle reliever this year with a 3.10 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, 27:13 K:BB and four holds over 29 innings.

Guardians' Enyel De Los Santos: Awful in first loss
De Los Santos (2-1) allowed four runs on two hits and two walks without recording an out to take the loss Tuesday versus the Red Sox.
De Los Santos also took a blown save for failing to protect a 2-1 lead in the eighth inning. It was easily his worst outing of the season -- he had a 6.2-inning scoreless streak from May 19 to June 3 and hadn't given up multiple runs in any appearance since April 9. The right-handed reliever still has a 3.52 ERA with a 1.13 WHIP, 18:10 K:BB and four holds over 23 innings this season. De Los Santos is likely to remain in a middle-reliever role.

In the ninth, the Guardians rallied for the lead, and Emmanuel Clase was able to close it out. De Los Santos has given up just three runs (two earned) over 10.1 innings this season, good for a 1.74 ERA. He also has a 1.06 WHIP, 9:5 K:BB and a hold through 11 appearances. De Los Santos isn't likely to get many save chances, but he's holding his own while seeing some high-leverage opportunities.

De Los Santos (1-0) struck out one in a perfect inning Sunday versus the Mariners, earning the extra-inning win.
De Los Santos worked the ninth inning of a 5-5 game, which was his third appearance of the young season. He's picked up a 3:1 K:BB over 2.2 hitless innings so far. The right-hander was mostly limited to middle-relief assignments in 2022, but he excelled in that role with a 3.04 ERA and 1.07 WHIP across 53.1 innings. He's unlikely to challenge for many saves with Emmanuel Clase, Trevor Stephan and James Karinchak in the high-leverage mix, but De Los Santos could be part of the bridge to get to the late innings.
