Braves' Joshua Fuentes: Joins Atlanta on minors deal
Fuentes signed a minor-league contract with Atlanta on Saturday.
Fuentes hit .243/.269/.377 for the Rockies in 149 games from 2019 through 2021, good for a wRC+ of 56. He struggled to a .405 OPS in 29 games for Triple-A Buffalo in the Blue Jays' system last season before being cut and finishing the year in Mexico. Heading into his age-30 season, he's a long shot at best to break camp in the majors.

Joshua Fuentes: Cut by Jays
The Blue Jays released Fuentes on Monday.
After inking a minor-league deal with the Blue Jays on April 2, Fuentes was with the organization for less than two months before receiving his walking papers. Despite playing in 95 games at the big-league level with the Rockies in 2021, Fuentes struggled mightily after reporting to Triple-A Buffalo in April. Over 112 plate appearances with the Triple-A affiliate, the 29-year-old mustered a lowly .162/.205/.200 slash line while striking out 38.4 percent of the time.

Rockies' Joshua Fuentes: Outrighted to Albuquerque
Fuentes was outrighted to Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday.
Fuentes appeared in 95 major-league games in 2021 and slashed .225/.257/.351 with seven home runs, 33 RBI and 30 runs, but he was optioned to Albuquerque in early September. He'll presumably be in the mix for a big-league roster spot ahead of the 2022 campaign.

Rockies' Joshua Fuentes: Retreats to minors
The Rockies optioned Fuentes to Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday.
The Rockies will swap Fuentes off the active roster for another righty-hitting corner-infield type in Colton Welker, who was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move. Fuentes appeared in four games during his short stint with the big club, going 1-for-8 with an RBI.

Rockies' Joshua Fuentes: Returns from Triple-A
Fuentes was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Saturday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Fuentes will get another chance with the big-league team after Connor Joe was placed on the 10-day IL with a hamstring strain. The 28-year-old Fuentes has done little with his 276 plate appearances with Colorado this season, slashing .228/.261/.357, and at this point there's little reason to think his bat will ever rise to the standards of a regular big-league corner infielder.

Rockies' Joshua Fuentes: Sent back to Triple-A
Fuentes was returned to Triple-A Albuquerque after serving as the 27th man during Wednesday's doubleheader against the Cubs.
Fuentes did not get an at-bat during either game of the twin bill. He'll return to Triple-A for the time being but figures to be a strong candidate to rejoin the big-league team when rosters expand to 28 players Wednesday.

Rockies' Joshua Fuentes: Optioned to Triple-A
Fuentes was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday.
Fuentes had lost out on playing time recently and was just 2-for-20 with three runs, a walk and two strikeouts in seven games since the All-Star break. He'll attempt to turn things around in the minors, and his demotion will make room for right-hander Jose Mujica on the active roster.

Rockies' Joshua Fuentes: Opportunities dwindling
Fuentes is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mariners, AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain reports.
Fuentes went 0-for-2 with a walk and a run scored in Tuesday's 6-4 loss while making his first start of the second half. The 28-year-old has cracked the lineup only three times in the last 11 games, and his playing-time outlook is unlikely to improve while corner infielders Ryan McMahon and C.J. Cron are fully healthy.

Rockies' Joshua Fuentes: Remains on bench
Fuentes is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Pirates.
The righty-hitting Fuentes will be on the bench for the third time in four games, even though a lefty (Tyler Anderson) is on the hill for the Pirates. Fuentes looks like he'll remain in a backup role moving forward with C.J. Cron and Ryan McMahon entrenched as the Rockies' regulars at the corner-infield spots.

Rockies' Joshua Fuentes: Homers off bench
Fuentes went 1-for-1 with a two-run homer in Friday's 5-4 loss to the Brewers.
The 28-year-old had started each of the team's two games in Seattle as Ryan McMahon dealt with a forearm injury, but he came off the bench in Friday's series opener after McMahon returned to the lineup. Although Fuentes went 0-for-7 with four strikeouts across his last two appearances, he blasted his seventh home run of the season in the seventh inning Friday.

Rockies' Joshua Fuentes: Out of lineup Tuesday
Fuentes is not in the starting lineup Tuesday against San Diego.
Following Trevor Story's return from the injured list last week, Fuentes has returned to serving primarily as a reserve player for the time being. He should continue to get some starts both at third base and in the outfield against left-handers, however.

Rockies' Joshua Fuentes: Takes seat Sunday
Fuentes is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds.
Fuentes will head to the bench for the second time in the series, and he could indirectly find himself as the odd man out for a regular role following Trevor Story's (elbow) recent return from the injured list. With Story back at shortstop, Brendan Rodgers has picked up more work of late at the keystone, which has forced Ryan McMahon over to Fuentes' regular spot at third base. Fuentes hasn't helped his case for maintaining everyday playing time by going 3-for-21 over his last seven games.

Rockies' Joshua Fuentes: Slams fifth home run
Fuentes went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and two additional runs scored in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Rangers.
Fuentes hit the game's only home run off Taylor Hearn in the eighth inning Wednesday and scored half of the Rockies' runs. The 28-year-old was hitless in his last seven games in May before tallying four hits in the first two contests in June. He is slashing .255/.293/.427 with five homers, 26 RBI and 22 runs in 167 plate appearances. The third baseman gets the start most days, but the return of Brendan Rodgers could give Fuentes more bench time.
