  • Rockies' Cal Quantrill: Pitiful command in loss

Quantrill (8-10) allowed two runs on four hits and six walks while striking out two over 2.1 innings to take the loss Sunday versus the Cubs.

Quantrill had a short stay on the injured list due to a tricep injury, but he didn't look good in his return. He threw 69 pitches, with just 34 of them being strikes, while the six walks were a season high in his shortest appearance of the year. There was no report of another injury after the game, so this appears to just be a poor performance at this time. Quantrill has struggled to a 4.68 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 105:63 K:BB through 140.1 innings over 27 starts this season. His next start is tentatively projected to be a tough one on the road versus the Dodgers.

  • Rockies' Cal Quantrill: Activated for Sunday's start

Quantrill (tricep) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list to start Sunday against the Cubs.

The right-hander has been sidelined since late August due to a tricep injury, but he's ready to rejoin Colorado's rotation after a brief stay on the injured list. Quantrill has a 6.06 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 25:18 K:BB in 35.2 innings across seven starts since the All-Star break.

  • Rockies' Cal Quantrill: Trending toward Sunday return

Quantrill (triceps) is expected to return from the 15-day injured list to start Sunday's game against the Cubs at Coors Field, MLB.com reports.

Quantrill was placed on the IL with right triceps inflammation on Sept. 1, one day after he was scratched from his scheduled start against the Orioles. He looks like he'll be ready to return to action in close to the minimum 15 days, and he didn't require a rehab assignment after the Rockies were encouraged by how the right-hander fared during his throwing program. That being said, manager Bud Black suggested that Quantrill will have his workload monitored carefully Sunday, with 70-to-85 pitches floated as a rough estimate.

  • Rockies' Cal Quantrill: Lands on IL

The Rockies placed Quantrill (tricep) on the 15-day injured list Sunday.

Quantrill had been in line to start Sunday's series finale with the Orioles at Coors Field, but he was scratched a day in advance after experiencing right triceps inflammation. According to Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com, Quantrill's injury isn't considered significant, with manager Bud Black noting that the right-hander is expected to return from the IL before the end of September. Ty Blach was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque to fill Quantrill's spot on the active roster and in the rotation.

  • Rockies' Cal Quantrill: Scratched from Sunday's start

Quantrill will not start in Sunday's series finale against the Orioles due to right triceps inflammation, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.

Quantrill made his last start Tuesday against the Marlins, when he allowed four runs on seven hits and five walks while striking out two across 5.2 innings in a no-decision. The 29-year-old right-hander has struggled over his seven starts since the All-Star break, posting a 2-2 record with a 6.06 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 25:18 K:BB over 35.2 innings. It's unclear whether the triceps injury will keep him out of his next start, which is pencilled in for Sept. 7 against the Brewers. Southpaw Ty Blach will be recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque and start Sunday.

  • Rockies' Cal Quantrill: Walks five in no-decision

Quantrill allowed four runs on seven hits and five walks while striking out two over 5.2 innings to take a no-decision versus the Marlins on Tuesday.

The five walks matched his season high. Quantrill exited in line for the win, but the Rockies' ninth-inning collapse denied him his ninth victory. The veteran right-hander has allowed 25 runs (24 earned) over 35.2 innings since the All-Star break, and he's posted a 25:18 K:BB in that span. He's now at a 4.63 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 103:57 K:BB through 138 innings over 26 starts this year. Quantrill's next start is projected to be at home this weekend versus the Orioles.

  • Rockies' Cal Quantrill: Saddled with ninth loss

Quantrill (8-9) took the loss Thursday, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks over five innings against the Nationals. He struck out four.

Quantrill retired the side in order during three of his five frames, with the lone blemish against his line coming in the third inning when he allowed one walk and a couple of singles, capped by a two-out base knock by James Wood that drove in two. It was just the third time in Quantrill's past 11 starts that he's completed five innings with two or fewer runs allowed. During that stretch, Quantrill has a 2-5 record with a 6.41 ERA and 1.59 WHIP and 45 strikeouts over 53.1 innings. He's next scheduled to face the Marlins in the high altitude of Coors Field.

  • Rockies' Cal Quantrill: Yields three runs in win

Quantrill (8-8) allowed three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five over five innings to earn the win over the Padres.

Quantrill was scratched from a start earlier in the week due to forearm soreness. It doesn't appear to be a lingering issue at this point as he threw 92 pitches Friday, though he gave up home runs to Ha-Seong Kim and Xander Bogaerts. Quantrill hasn't pitched into the sixth inning in three straight starts, giving up 13 runs over 13 innings in that span. He's now at a 4.59 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 97:50 K:BB through 127.1 innings over 24 starts this season. The right-hander is projected to make his next start on the road versus the Nationals.

  • Rockies' Cal Quantrill: In line to start Friday

Quantrill (forearm) is scheduled to make his next start Friday against the Padres at Coors Field, MLB.com reports.

Quantrill had previously been lined up to take the hill for Monday's series opener versus the Diamondbacks, but he was pushed back in the pitching schedule after experiencing soreness at the top of his right forearm coming out of his most recent start Aug. 4 in San Diego. The right-hander said that he was able to resume throwing Saturday, so assuming he's able to make it out of a bullpen session Tuesday or Wednesday no worse for the wear, he shouldn't face any restrictions when he toes the rubber Friday in Colorado.

  • Rockies' Cal Quantrill: Start pushed back

Rockies manager Bud Black said Saturday that Quantrill is dealing with general forearm soreness and will not start Monday's game against Arizona as previously planned, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.

The Rockies had already pushed back Quantrill's start from Saturday to Monday, but it's now unknown when he'll make his next start. Quantrill's forearm soreness stems from his most recent outing Aug. 4, when he allowed three runs across 4.1 innings against the Padres. The right-hander should be expected to undergo further testing in the coming days, but for now, the Rockies don't seem to think that Quantrill will need to go on the injured list.

  • Rockies' Cal Quantrill: Another short outing Sunday

Quantrill (7-8) took the loss Sunday against the Padres, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out two over 4.1 innings.

The Padres worked a run off of Quantrill in the second after they led off the inning with a single and a double that scored Xander Bogaerts from first. Quantrill would later surrender two more runs in the fifth, both off of solo homers from Kyle Higashioka and Jurickson Profar. Quantrill has now failed to go at least five innings in consecutive starts and in three of his last five. He only has one win since June 11 and has been exhibiting some control issues of late, walking multiple batters in five of his last six outings. Quantrill now owns a 4.56 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 92:48 K:BB in 122.1 innings and lines up to face Atlanta in his next start over the weekend.

  • Rockies' Cal Quantrill: Struggles versus Angels

Quantrill allowed seven runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out four over 3.2 innings in a no-decision Tuesday versus the Angels.

The Rockies led 6-2 after the second inning, but Quantrill let the Angels pull ahead by the end of the fourth. He was able to avoid a loss, but this was arguably his worst start of the season. He failed to complete five innings in two of his five starts in July, allowing 20 runs (19 earned) over 22.2 innings. For the season, he's posted a 4.50 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 90:45 K:BB through 118 innings over 22 starts. Quantrill is projected to make his next start at San Diego this weekend.

  • Rockies' Cal Quantrill: Earns seventh victory

Quantrill (7-7) earned the win Wednesday against the Red Sox, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out three.

Quantrill was stingy Wednesday and got more than enough run support in an eventual 20-7 Rockies victory. It marks the 29-year-old Quantrill's first win since June 11, though he's now turned in back-to-back quality starts. His ERA sits at 4.09 through 21 starts (114.1 innings) this season with a 1.34 WHIP and 86:43 K:BB. Quantrill's tentatively lined up to face the Angels at home in his next outing.

  • Rockies' Cal Quantrill: Hands in quality start

Quantrill yielded three runs on five hits and two walks over six innings in a no-decision Friday. He struck out five during a win over the Giants.

Quantrill coughed up a pair of runs in the second inning and another in the third. Unfortunately for him, the Rockies didn't take the lead until the eighth inning, so he's still searching for his first win since June 11. In six starts since that last victory, Quantril has posted a 6.44 ERA through 29.1 frames. He's now sporting a 4.15 ERA with an 83:41 K:BB through 108.1 innings. Quantrill's next appearance is currently lined up to come at home against the Red Sox.
