The Phillies recalled Painter from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday.
Painter will appear in Friday's series opener against Baltimore in some fashion. Painter will be making his first appearance with the big-league club since June 17. In 65 innings, the right-hander has struggled, posting a 7.06 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 53:24 K:BB this season. To make room on the 26-man roster for the 23-year-old, Philadelphia optioned Brian Keller to Triple-A.

Painter didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 6-4 loss to the Orioles, allowing two runs on three hits and three walks over six innings. He struck out six.
Pete Alonso lofted a two-run homer off the 23-year-old right-hander in the first inning, but Painter didn't lose focus and left the mound after 82 pitches (54 strikes) with his third career quality start in hand and Philly holding a 4-2 lead. Orion Kerkering and an overworked bullpen cost him his second win, however. Painter, who was just recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley earlier in the day Friday, seems likely to stick in the rotation barring a big move at the trade deadline, despite his 6.72 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 59:27 K:BB through 71 big-league innings this season. He's scheduled to make his next start at home next week against the Nationals.

The Phillies will recall Painter from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to pitch Friday in Baltimore, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
It's unclear whether it will be a traditional start or some other arrangement, but the 23-year-old will get another chance in the majors. Painter was sent down to Triple-A in mid-June after logging a 7.06 ERA in 65 innings for the Phillies. He's pitched well in four of five outings at Lehigh Valley though, and he's allowed three runs with a 14:1 K:BB across 11 frames in his last two starts.
The Phillies optioned Painter to Triple-A Lehigh Valley following his start against the Marlins on Wednesday.
Painter was lit up for six earned runs on six hits and two walks while he struck out three batters in just two innings Wednesday. It's the third start in a row that he's allowed five or more runs, so the Phillies will send him back to the minors to get back on track. A corresponding move will be made ahead of Thursday's game to presumably add more depth to Philadelphia's bullpen while the team determines who will claim the open rotation spot.

The rookie right-hander surrendered at least four runs for a third straight outing, though he avoided being charged with a fourth consecutive loss since Tanner Banks gave up a run as the opener. Painter has allowed 12 homers in 13 appearances this season and has a 6.43 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 50:22 K:BB across 63 innings.

Painter will be used in a bulk-relief role Friday in Milwaukee, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Painter had one other bulk-relief appearance this season and fared well, striking out seven while holding the Diamondbacks to one run over five innings. He will be preceded by opener Tanner Banks.
Painter (1-7) took the loss against the White Sox on Saturday, allowing six runs on eight hits and two walks with four strikeouts over 4.2 innings.
Painter allowed four runs in the first inning before surrendering two solo homers in the third. He generated 13 whiffs on 93 pitches and allowed just three hard-hit balls, but all three went for extra bases. It marked the fifth time in 12 starts that the rookie failed to complete five frames, and he has now recorded four strikeouts or fewer in six straight outings. He'll take an ugly 6.21 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 47:19 K:BB across 58 innings this season into a challenging road matchup against the Brewers next weekend.

Painter was tagged for solo home runs by Ryan Ward and Alex Freeland in the fourth inning, which was enough to end his outing. Painter held Cleveland scoreless through his first four innings Sunday, though he'd ultimately give up a run in both the fifth and the sixth, which proved enough to stick him with the loss in an eventual 3-1 defeat. The 23-year-old Painter has delivered back-to-back quality starts while allowing just five runs over 17.1 innings in his last three outings after struggling to a 9.33 ERA in his previous four appearances. Overall, Painter's lowered his ERA to 5.40 with a 1.46 WHIP and 40:16 K:BB across 50 innings. He's currently in line for a tough road matchup against the Dodgers his next time out.

Painter took a no-decision Monday against the Reds, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks in six innings. He struck out three.
It was a positive showing for the 23-year-old right-hander, but the Phillies still gave him a quick hook at just 69 pitches (44 strikes). Painter induced only three whiffs on the evening, but he didn't give up any extra-base hits and logged the first quality start of his major-league career. Painter, who hasn't reached the 70-pitch threshold in in either of his past two outings, will look to further improve on his 5.77 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 37:14 K:BB over 43.2 innings in his next scheduled appearance versus Cleveland.

It was a solid bounce-back effort from Painter, who held Boston to a lone run on Trevor Story's second-inning homer after giving up eight runs in just 3.2 innings during his previous outing. The no-decision snaps a four-start losing streak for Painter, who's 1-4 with a 6.21 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 34:11 K:BB across 37.2 innings in his rookie campaign. Painter's tentatively lined up for a home matchup against the Reds in his next start.

Painter struggled from the get-go, allowing a pair of two-run homers before he retired a batter in the game. Things didn't get much better for the rookie right-hander from there, and he was pulled already trailing 7-0 and at 88 pitches with two outs in the fourth frame. Painter has been up-and-down this season, but he hadn't previously had problems with the long ball -- in fact, the three homers he gave up Thursday matched the amount he surrendered across his first six starts combined. Still, he's given up at least three runs in all but two of his outings and holds an ugly 6.89 ERA and 1.71 WHIP through 32.2 frames. At some point his spot in Philadelphia's rotation could be in jeopardy, though the team doesn't have an obvious candidate to step into his job.
