Gelof missed a month due to a knee injury, and he wasted no time in making an impact with a pair of extra-base hits. He's had a decent campaign interrupted by a couple of injuries. On the year, he's batting .277 with an .823 OPS, 12 homers, 31 RBI, 43 runs scored, 12 doubles, one triple and eight stolen bases over 68 contests. Athletics' Zack Gelof: Exits early Thursday
Gelof exited Thursday's contest against the Tigers in the third inning with a right knee injury, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Gelof made a sliding catch for the first out in the bottom of the third inning, but he slammed his right leg into the left field wall in the process, and he was forced to exit the game as a result. The 26-year-old will finish his night having gone 0-for-1 in his only at-bat, and Lawrence Butler has replaced him the outfield against Detroit. Gelof had a minimum stint on the IL while recovering from a right hand contusion and did not need to embark on a rehab assignment before returning to the majors. After being held out of the lineup Saturday, Gelof returned Sunday and came around to score a season-high three times in the high-scoring affair. The infielder wasted little time extending his hitting streak to 24 games, lacing a single in the first inning. Per Theo DeRosa of MLB.com, the 26-year-old became just the fourth Athletics player since 1961 to record a hitting streak of at least 24 games.
