  • White Sox's Justin Anderson: Notches first save of season

Anderson walked one and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday to record his first save of the season in a 3-2 win over the Angels. The 31-year-old righty had five previous career saves, all of them coming with the Halos in 2018-19. Anderson hasn't exactly been sharp of late, posting a 4.15 ERA, 1.73 WHIP and 14:8 K:BB through 8.2 innings in September, but he misses bats with his fastball-slider combo and can be an effective high-leverage arm when he maintains a semblance of control. If the White Sox have any more late leads to protect over the final handful of games this season, Anderson could get the call again.

  • White Sox's Justin Anderson: Back in majors

The White Sox recalled Anderson from Triple-A Charlotte on Friday. The 31-year-old will join Chicago on Friday as Dominic Leone (elbow) heads to the injured list. Anderson has made three appearances for the White Sox and has spent most of the campaign with Charlotte, where he has a 2.50 ERA and 25:4 K:BB over 18 innings.

  • White Sox's Justin Anderson: Returned to Charlotte

The White Sox returned Anderson to Triple-A Charlotte after Tuesday's doubleheader against Washington. Anderson pitched a scoreless inning during the first game of the twin bill, giving up one walk while punching out two batters. He owns a 2.81 ERA and 1.06 WHIP across 16 frames in Triple-A, and he could return to the majors later this year if Chicago's bullpen depth is tested further.

  • White Sox's Justin Anderson: Serving as 27th man Tuesday

The White Sox recalled Anderson from Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports. Anderson will serve as the 27th man for Tuesday's doubleheader against the Nationals. The right-hander has allowed two runs over 2.1 innings across two appearances during his brief time with the White Sox this season. He is likely to be sent back down to Charlotte after Tuesday's twin bill.

  • White Sox's Justin Anderson: Optioned to Triple-A

Anderson was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte by the White Sox on Monday. Anderson was up for the weekend series against the Reds, allowing two runs over 2.1 innings across a couple appearances. He'll be replaced on the roster by Nick Nastrini, who will start Monday versus the Royals.

  • White Sox's Justin Anderson: Added to roster

The White Sox selected Anderson's contract from Triple-A Charlotte on Friday. Anderson had tossed 4.2 scoreless frames with a 5:0 K:BB at Charlotte. It will be the first stint in the majors for the 31-year-old since 2019, as he had Tommy John surgery and has bounced through a couple different organizations since then.

  • Royals' Justin Anderson: Latches on with Royals

Anderson signed a minor-league contract with the Royals on Wednesday. Anderson last pitched in the majors in 2019, having undergone Tommy John surgery back in July of 2020. The 30-year-old displayed plenty of bat-missing ability during his time with the Angels, so he seems worthy of a no-risk flier. He'll report to Triple-A Omaha.

  • Rangers' Justin Anderson: Won't crack Opening Day roster

The Rangers reassigned Anderson to minor-league camp Wednesday. The demotion of Anderson and three others Wednesday leaves the Rangers with 39 players left in big-league camp with Opening Day just over a week away. Anderson, who previously made 111 relief appearances with the Angels between the 2018 and 2019 seasons, hasn't made it back to the majors since undergoing Tommy John surgery in July 2020. He's expected to work out of the bullpen at Triple-A Round Rock to begin the 2022 campaign.

  • Rangers' Justin Anderson: Active at Triple-A Round Rock

Anderson (elbow) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list at Triple-A Round Rock on Friday, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports. Anderson underwent Tommy John surgery in July of 2020 and spent the start of the season recovering. The right-hander made two rehab appearances with the rookie-level Arizona League affiliate recently and struck out six in two perfect innings.

  • Rangers' Justin Anderson: Won't pitch off mound in camp

Anderson (elbow) won't pitch off a mound during spring training, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports. Anderson is expected to miss most or all of the 2021 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in July, and he won't be able to take part in mound work during spring training. He signed a two-year, minor-league contract with the Rangers in January and will spend most of his first season with the club in his rehab process.

  • Rangers' Justin Anderson: Lands two-year deal with Texas

Anderson (elbow) signed a two-year, minor-league contract with Texas on Wednesday. Anderson underwent Tommy John surgery July 22 and is expected to miss most, if not all, of the 2021 season, so the Rangers will spend most of the first year of his contract overseeing his rehab with the hope that he can emerge as a healthy contributor to the bullpen in 2022. Before requiring the elbow procedure this summer, the hard-throwing right-hander made 111 relief appearances with the Angels between the 2018 and 2019 seasons, logging a 4.75 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and an 11.2 K/9.

  • Justin Anderson: Non-tendered by Angels

Anderson (elbow) was non-tendered by the Angels on Wednesday. Considering Anderson had Tommy John surgery in mid-July, he probably won't be ready for game action until August or September, and that's if everything goes smoothly with his recovery. The 28-year-old righty posted a 4.75 ERA in 102.1 innings as a reliever with the Angels from 2018 to 2019.

  • Angels' Justin Anderson: Moved to IL

The Angels placed Anderson (elbow) on the 45-day injured list Thursday. Anderson's move to the IL was merely a formality after he was diagnosed with a torn UCL in his right elbow last week that required season-ending Tommy John surgery. The power reliever won't be ready to contribute for the Angels until late in the second half of the 2021 campaign in a best-case scenario.

  • Angels' Justin Anderson: Heading for Tommy John surgery

Anderson (oblique) was diagnosed with a torn UCL in his right elbow and will undergo Tommy John surgery Wednesday. The 27-year-old was returning from an oblique injury he sustained in February, but he's now been lost for the season. Anderson will also be sidelined for at least the first half of the 2021 campaign.

  • Angels' Justin Anderson: Throwing off mound again

Anderson (oblique) has resumed throwing off a mound, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. Anderson suffered a left oblique strain at the start of spring training and was originally expected to be sidelined to begin the season. With a potential Opening Day now expected to take place no sooner than early July, Anderson appears to be on track to begin the season ready to contribute out of the bullpen.

  • Angels' Justin Anderson: Recovery going well

Anderson has had no setbacks in his recovery from a left oblique strain but has yet to resume baseball activities, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. Per Bollinger, the inflammation in Anderson's oblique is gone, suggesting that he could begin ramping up his activity in the near future. Nonetheless, the right-hander is unlikely to have enough time to be ready for Opening Day. He's expected to start the season on the injured list.

  • Angels' Justin Anderson: Out with oblique injury

Manager Joe Maddon said Thursday that Anderson suffered an oblique injury in a workout and has been ruled out for 4-to-6 weeks, Maria Torres of the Los Angeles Times reports. More specifically, Anderson is contending with a Grade 2 left oblique strain, per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic. While Anderson could be able to resume throwing by the end of spring training if he meets the short end of that recovery timeline, Maddon admitted the righty reliever will likely open the 2020 campaign on the injured list. When he's been healthy during parts of two seasons in the big leagues, Anderson has flashed dominance out of the bullpen at times due to his big fastball, but a career 15.7 BB percentage has torpedoed his ERA and WHIP.

  • Angels' Justin Anderson: Ready for simulated game

Anderson (lat) is expected to pitch in a simulated game as soon as Friday, the Associated Press reports. The sim game will likely mark the final hurdle Anderson needs to clear before the Angels bring him back from the 10-day injured list. Anderson has been on the shelf since Aug. 12 with a right upper trapezius strain.

  • Angels' Justin Anderson: Set for bullpen session Sunday

Anderson (lat) is scheduled for a bullpen session Sunday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Anderson has been playing catch but has not thrown a pitch since giving up three runs in one-third of an inning against Boston on Aug. 9. If Sunday's bullpen session goes well, he will throw a few more and at least one simulated game before being activated from the injured list. The 26-year-old has compiled a 5.01 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 56:27 K:BB in 41.1 innings this season.

  • Angels' Justin Anderson: Resumes light activity

Anderson (lat) played catch Saturday, Maria Torres of the Los Angeles Times reports. Anderson was shut down last week after feeling discomfort while moving his arm, so his resumption to throwing is a positive sign that he is inching toward a return. The 26-year-old went on the 10-day injured list with a lat strain Aug. 12. He has compiled a 5.01 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 41.1 innings this season.
