Angels' Tim Peterson: Signed by Angels
Peterson was signed by the Angels on Wednesday and was subsequently assigned to Triple-A Salt Lake, Taylor Blake Ward of Locked on Angels reports.
The right-hander agreed to a minor-league deal but could feasibly help the big club at some point this season given the Angels' bullpen struggles thus far. Peterson last pitched for the Mets in 2019, allowing four earned runs and compiling a 3:7 K:BB across 7.1 innings. He has given up nine home runs over 35 career big-league frames.

Mets' Tim Peterson: Sent down
Peterson was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday.
Peterson made one appearance during his most recent stint in the majors, allowing two runs on two hits -- including a home run -- in one inning. He's enjoyed much more success overall at Syracuse (2.49 ERA, 0.57 WHIP) and will likely continue to get opportunities here or there when the Mets need a fresh arm.

Mets' Tim Peterson: Called up from minors
The Mets recalled Peterson from Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.
Peterson took over the active roster spot of second baseman Robinson Cano (quadriceps), who was placed on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. The right-handed reliever previously made five appearances out of the New York bullpen earlier this season, giving up two runs on five hits and six walks over 6.1 innings. He'll likely be limited to mop-up duty and low-leverage work while he's up with the big club.

The Mets will risk sacrificing some organizational bullpen depth in Peterson in order to claim Aaron Altherr off waivers in an effort to address their lack of healthy outfield depth. Peterson has a 5.56 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 34 MLB innings over the past two seasons.

Mets' Tim Peterson: Called up by Mets
Peterson was called up by the Mets on Sunday.
With a career 5.97 ERA in 31.2 big-league innings, Peterson shouldn't be anything more than a low-leverage arm. The Mets need some more of those after playing 18 innings Saturday, so Peterson and Tyler Bashlor are up to replace Ryan O'Rourke and Chris Flexen.

Mets' Tim Peterson: Shaky start to season
Peterson gave up two hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning in Thursday's loss to the Nationals.
While he didn't have any runs charged to his own ledger, Peterson did allow an inherited runner to score. The 28-year-old has a 0.00 ERA through 2.2 innings to begin the season, but his 0:1 K:BB is far from encouraging. He has a tenuous hold on a low-leverage role in the Mets' bullpen, and Peterson will likely be the first reliever optioned out if the club needs to bring in reinforcements.

Mets' Tim Peterson: Expected to make roster
Peterson is expected to open the season in the Mets' bullpen, Matt Ehalt of The Bergen Record reports.
Peterson didn't dominate this spring, but his 4.35 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 9:3 K:BB through 10.1 innings was enough to earn him the final spot in New York's bullpen. The 28-year-old will likely fill a middle-relief role for the big club.

It sounds like Peterson could still break camp with the Mets despite being optioned to Triple-A Syracuse earlier in the month. The 28-year-old posted a 6.18 ERA across 27.2 innings with the Mets in 2018.

Peterson will be recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas prior to Monday's game against the Yankees, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
Peterson is set to replace Jacob Rhame, who was banished to the minors following Sunday's victory over Miami. Through 18 appearances in the major leagues this season, Peterson owns a 6.53 ERA and 1.31 WHIP with 20 strikeouts, so it appears unlikely that he'll see many high-leverage situations during his latest stint with the Mets.
