Angels' Taylor Jones: Signs minors deal with Angels
Jones signed a minor-league contract with the Angels on Thursday.
Jones owns a career .234/.260/.395 slash line in 43 MLB games, and at age 29, it's unlikely a significant step forward is on the horizon. He recorded a slightly above-average 108 wRC+ at the Triple-A level last season, so it's unlikely he plays a meaningful role for the Angels this year.

Astros' Taylor Jones: Moving rehab to Triple-A on Friday
Jones (back) will shift his rehab assignment to Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
The first baseman has been sidelined since the beginning of the season with a back injury, but he started his rehab assignment at extended spring training Saturday and will now move to Triple-A on Friday. It's possible that Jones will ultimately end up joining Sugar Land once healthy, but he should get a shot at the big leagues at some point this summer. In 35 games with the Astros in 2021, he produced a .245 average with two homers, 16 RBI and 11 runs over 102 at-bats.

Astros' Taylor Jones: Begins rehab assignment
Jones (back) began a minor-league rehab assignment at extended spring training May 28, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Jones is taking the final steps in his recovery from a lower-back injury, which has cost him the first two months of the 2022 season. As he gets closer to a return, Jones' rehab assignment will shift to one of the team's minor-league affiliates, though there isn't a particular rush given that Jones is not eligible to be activated from the injured list until June 7. With versatile options such as Mauricio Dubon and Aledmys Diaz already on the big-league roster in Houston, Jones may begin his campaign officially at Triple-A Sugar Land.

Astros' Taylor Jones: Continues ramp-up process

Jones resumed hitting last week and has continued to ramp up his workload as he's eased back into baseball activities. The 28-year-old is on the 60-day injured list, so he won't be eligible to return until at least June. However, Jones has made encouraging progress in his recovery early in May.

Astros' Taylor Jones: Begins hitting
Jones has begun hitting for the first time since sustaining his injury, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Jones has been dealing with a back issue since spring training, and while the problem was initially referred to as merely lower-back discomfort, it ended up preventing him from hitting for over a month. He was transferred to the 60-day injured list in late April, so he'll be ineligible to return until early June. He's making steps in his recovery now, but whether or not he'll be back when first eligible is unclear.

Astros' Taylor Jones: Sent to 60-day IL
The Astros transferred Jones (back) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day injured list Wednesday.
Since suffering from lower-back discomfort late in spring training and opening the season on the 10-day IL, Jones hasn't been cleared to resume baseball activities. With his season debut likely several weeks away, the Astros elected to push him timeline further back by moving him to the 60-day IL. The move simultaneously opens up a spot on the 40-man roster for infielder/outfielder J.J. Matijevic, who was also added to the 28-man active roster as a replacement for the injured Jose Altuve (hamstring).

Astros' Taylor Jones: Progressing slowly
Manager Dusty Baker said Sunday that Jones (back) isn't progressing in his rehab program as quickly as the Astros anticipated and has since visited a doctor in Houston for an opinion on his next steps, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
After being placed on the 10-day injured list April 7 with lower-back discomfort, Jones was expected to spend the minimum amount of time on the shelf or close to it. Instead, Jones has yet to resume baseball activities and looks like he could remain sidelined through the end of April, if not longer. Though Jones currently resides on the Astros' IL, he has a minor-league option remaining and could be sent to Triple-A Sugar Land once he advances to the point in his rehab when he's ready to play regularly.

Jones is dealing with a back issue which will keep him out for Opening Day and potentially much longer, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
