Rangers' Nick Pratto: Goes to Rangers on MiLB deal

The Rangers signed Pratto to a minor-league contract Thursday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Pratto has slashed only .216/.295/.364 with an ugly 38.7 percent strikeout rate across 144 games in the majors and has been stuck in the minors each of the last two seasons. He's still just 27 and a former top-100 prospect, so the Rangers will find out whether a change of scenery will do Pratto some good. Most likely, he will begin the 2026 season at Triple-A Round Rock.

Pratto cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Omaha on Sunday.
The 26-year-old missed out on Kansas City's Opening Day roster after slashing .200/.351/.333 with 13 strikeouts in 37 plate appearances during spring training. Pratto made just one appearance with the Royals last year and had a .728 OPS in 116 contests at Omaha.

Pratto hit just .240 with 16 home runs and a .728 OPS at Triple-A last season but still has significant power, as he hit 36 homers in the minors in 2021. He's likely a long shot to win a roster spot, though he is out of options. He's hitting just 1-for-10 in his first five spring games.

The Royals optioned Pratto to Triple-A Omaha on Friday.
While there's no corresponding move yet, it will presumably be Adam Frazier returning from the bereavement list. Pratto was up with the big club only for a few days and didn't make an appearance.
Pratto was called up from Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday.
Pratto will get his first taste of MLB action this season after slashing .230/.315/.378 with seven homers in 54 games at Omaha. With Adam Frazier headed to the bereavement list and Hunter Renfroe (toe) pushed to the IL, Pratto should serve primarily as a reserve first baseman but could see some action in the outfield.
The Royals optioned Pratto to Triple-A Omaha on Friday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
If decisions were made strictly on spring performance, Pratto would have made the club, as he slashed a robust .421/.476/.816 with four home runs. First base, the corner outfield spots and designated hitter are spoken for with the Royals though, so he'll head back to Omaha where he'll play every day.
Pratto is not projected to make the Royals' roster, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Pratto is blocked at first base by Vinnie Pasquantino and doesn't have enough experience in the outfield yet to be a realistic option there, especially with the competition for the extra outfielders expected to be strong. Nelson Velazquez is also expected to be the primary designated hitter, and Nick Loftin, who is also not included in Rogers' projection, offers more infield versatility. It's an uphill battle ahead for Pratto, who slashed a meager .232/.307/.353 with seven home runs and 35 RBI last year.

Pratto recently suffered a "minor setback" in his recovery from the lower-half injury that sent him to the injured list in late July, but taking a few days off appears to have resolved the issue.
