  • Marlins' Calvin Faucher: Placed on injured list

The Marlins placed Faucher on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a right shoulder impingement. Faucher has been one of the most reliable members of Miami's bullpen this season, posting a 3.19 ERA and 1.40 WHIP through 53.2 innings while picking up six saves and 11 holds. Now that he's set to miss roughly two weeks, it's unclear who Miami will turn to in high-leverage situations, though Anthony Bender, John McMillon and Jesus Tinoco would seem to be the most likely candidates for ninth-inning work.

  • Marlins' Calvin Faucher: Fans side for save

Faucher struck out all three batters he faced to earn a save over San Francisco on Sunday. Faucher needed just 13 pitches (10 strikes) to roll through the Giants and close out the 7-5 win. He converted both save chances while striking out five in two perfect innings during the weekend series against San Francisco, and he's now tossed four straight scoreless innings. Since taking over the closer role in Miami after the trade deadline, Faucher has converted six of seven save chances while registering a 4.15 ERA and a 19:6 K:BB through 13 frames. On the year, he owns a 3.25 ERA over 52.2 innings.

  • Marlins' Calvin Faucher: Strikes out side for save

Faucher struck out three batters in a perfect inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 9-8 win over the Rockies. Faucher needed 18 pitches, but he got the job done cleanly after the Marlins rallied ahead in the top of the ninth inning. The right-hander is up to four saves in five opportunities since he became the Marlins' closer at the end of July. He's allowed six runs and posted a 13:5 K:BB over 10 innings in August, so he hasn't been dominant, but there are few other options to challenge him on a rebuilding team. Overall, Faucher has a 3.44 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 56:24 K:BB through 49.2 innings this year.

  • Marlins' Calvin Faucher: Stumbles in high-leverage spot

Faucher (2-3) blew the save and took the loss Friday against Atlanta, getting tagged for three runs on three hits and two walks in the eighth inning. He struck out one. Manager Skip Schumaker continues to play it coy when it comes to the Marlins' closer situation in the wake of the Tanner Scott trade. After rookie Valente Bellozo gave the team five innings as the starter, Anthony Bender worked the sixth, Andrew Nardi the seventh and then Faucher the eighth, leaving open the question of who would have gotten the ninth had Faucher not coughed up a 3-2 lead. The blown save was Faucher's third of the year against two successful conversions, and Friday's implosion was the first time he's been charged with multiple earned runs since June 17. The situation could be headed for a committee, but at least so far, Schumaker has been willing to deploy Nardi and Bender earlier in the game in key spots.

  • Marlins' Calvin Faucher: Gets call in ninth inning

Faucher struck out one in a perfect ninth inning Wednesday during a 6-2 win over the Rays. It wasn't a save situation, but Faucher was still the pitcher manager Skip Schumaker called upon to protect Miami's first ninth-inning lead since Tanner Scott was traded to the Padres. Andrew Nardi, who was viewed as the most likely candidate to take over closing duties, pitched the sixth inning with a two-run lead, while Anthony Bender worked the eighth after the lead was extended to four runs. Faucher has pitched well enough to be in the high-leverage mix -- over his last 15 appearances, the right-hander has posted a 1.93 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 16:6 K:BB in 14 innings.

  • Marlins' Calvin Faucher: Denied Opening Day roster spot

The Marlins optioned Faucher to Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday. Faucher had been projected to be a part of the Marlins' Opening Day bullpen, but Miami's acquisition Wednesday of right-hander Burch Smith likely left Faucher on the outside looking in for a spot on the 26-man active roster. The 28-year-old right-hander should handle a key late-inning role with New Orleans and will look to impress at Triple-A with the hope of making his Miami debut at some point this season.

  • Marlins' Calvin Faucher: Making second spring appearance

Faucher (biceps) is scheduled to make a relief appearance in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Faucher, whom the Marlins acquired from Tampa Bay in November, closed the 2023 season on the 60-day injured list after developing right biceps tendinitis in mid-August. He hasn't faced any apparent limitations in spring training, however, as he'll be making his second Grapefruit League appearance Wednesday after he gave up three runs (two earned) on four hits and a walk while retiring two batters in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Nationals. Faucher projects to fill a middle-relief role out of the Miami bullpen.

  • Marlins' Calvin Faucher: Shipped to Miami

The Rays traded Faucher (biceps) to the Marlins alongside Vidal Brujan on Friday in exchange for Erick Lara, Andrew Lindsey and a player to be named later or cash. After being DFA'd by the Rays on Tuesday, Faucher will now receive a new home with the Marlins. The 28-year-old righty put up a lowly 7.01 ERA and 1.68 WHIP through 25.2 big-league innings in 2023, and he ended the season on the 60-day injured list due to lingering biceps tendinitis.

  • Rays' Calvin Faucher: Recalled, moved to 60-day IL

The Rays recalled Faucher (biceps) from Triple-A Durham and placed him on the 60-day injured list Saturday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Faucher has been dealing with biceps tendinitis since late August, and his move to the 60-day IL will free a spot on the 40-man roster for Raimel Tapia, who was selected from Triple-A on Saturday. Faucher logged a 7.01 ERA and 1.68 WHIP through 25.2 innings in the majors this season and will now focus on getting ready for the start of the 2024 campaign.

  • Rays' Calvin Faucher: Sidelined at Triple-A

Triple-A Durham placed Faucher on its 7-day injured list Tuesday with an unspecified injury. Faucher has been a frequent mover between the Rays and Triple-A Durham in 2023, tossing 25.2 innings for the big club and 8.2 innings for the organization's top affiliate. Following his demotion to Durham on July 30, Faucher made just two relief appearances before hitting the shelf. The Rays haven't shed light on whether Faucher's injury is serious enough to end his season.

  • Rays' Calvin Faucher: Sent to minors

Faucher was optioned to Triple-A Durham on Sunday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Faucher was roughed up for six runs over two innings Saturday in Houston, and the outing will cost him his spot on the big-league roster. Erasmo Ramirez had his contract selected in a corresponding move.

  • Rays' Calvin Faucher: Recalled from Triple-A

Faucher was recalled from Triple-A Durham by the Rays on Thursday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Faucher can provide some length for a bullpen that's been overworked this week. He holds a 6.43 ERA and 11:6 K:BB across 14 innings with the big club this season.

  • Rays' Calvin Faucher: Sent to Triple-A

Tampa Bay optioned Faucher to Triple-A Durham on Sunday. With Javy Guerra reporting to the Rays on Sunday after being acquired from Milwaukee, Faucher's demotion is necessary to create room on the 26-man roster. Faucher had been serving as an opener of late for Tampa Bay and had allowed a run in all but one of his appearances in April while registering a 6.43 ERA and 11:6 K:BB across 14 innings. He could be back with Tampa Bay in the coming weeks when the big club requires a fresh arm.

  • Rays' Calvin Faucher: Opening for Chirinos on Saturday

Faucher will serve as the opener for Saturday's game against the White Sox, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports. Faucher will work the first inning or two before Yonny Chirinos takes over as the bulk reliever. Because he won't last long enough to qualify for a win, Faucher shouldn't be considered as a fantasy streaming option even as the nominal starter.

  • Rays' Calvin Faucher: Stuck with loss as opener

Faucher (0-1) took the loss Wednesday, giving up one run on one hit and two walks over two innings as the Rays fell 1-0 to the Astros. He struck out one. Houston plated a run in the top of the first inning thanks in part to a wild pitch and an error, and that proved to be the game's only bit of offense, saddling Faucher with the loss. The right-hander gave way to Josh Fleming after 43 pitches (23 strikes), and there's no guarantee Faucher continues to see regular work as an opener ahead of the southpaw given his struggles. Through 12.2 innings this season, he has a 5.68 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 10:4 K:BB, and he's been scored upon in six straight appearances.

  • Rays' Calvin Faucher: Starting Wednesday vs. Astros

Faucher will start Wednesday's game against the Astros, Kristie Ackert of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Faucher will be making his third consecutive start, and though he was limited to two innings his last time out Friday versus the White Sox, he built up to a season-high 46 pitches. The Rays' decision not to make Faucher available in relief between either of his last two starts seems to imply that he won't be deployed as a traditional opener Wednesday, so he could bump his pitch count a little bit more. Even so, Josh Fleming is expected to work multiple innings behind Faucher, per Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times, so a piggyback arrangement between the two pitchers could be in the works. Since Faucher isn't likely to work deep enough into Wednesday's contest to qualify for a win, Fleming probably represents the preferred streaming option between the two.

  • Rays' Calvin Faucher: Nearing mound work

Faucher (oblique) is expected to be cleared to throw off a mound soon, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Faucher has stretched out his flat-ground throwing to 120 feet and is almost ready to take the mound the next time he throws. Assuming the reliever is able to continue progressing with no setbacks, the Rays anticipate him being ready to go for Opening Day.

  • Rays' Calvin Faucher: Records extra-innings save

Faucher picked up the save Tuesday in Cleveland, allowing an unearned run on a hit in a 6-5 extra-innings win. Faucher entered the game in the bottom of 11th after the Rays scored twice in the top half. He allowed a one-out single that plated the automatic runner before retiring the final two batters to end the game and earn his first big-league save. The 27-year-old has shuttled back and forth between the minors and the Rays this year and, after a rough start to the season, has a 3.24 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 16:8 K:BB in his last 16.2 innings across 18 appearances for Tampa Bay.

  • Rays' Calvin Faucher: Recalled to majors

Faucher was recalled from Triple-A Durham on Friday, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports. Faucher will join the Rays' big-league roster alongside Cristofer Ogando with Ryan Yarbrough (oblique) moving to the injured list and Dusten Knight being designated for assignment. Faucher's latest stint in the majors came earlier this month when he gave up three earned runs over 4.2 innings out of the bullpen.

  • Rays' Calvin Faucher: Sent to minors

Faucher was optioned to Triple-A Durham following Sunday's loss to the Yankees, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Faucher was called up by the Rays at the end of August, but he allowed three runs in 1.2 innings over a pair of relief appearances during the team's weekend series against the Yankees. He'll attempt to sort things out in Durham, where he's posted a 3.73 ERA and 1.49 WHIP in 41 innings over 32 appearances (four starts) this year.
