The right-handed-hitting Martin could be losing his grip on a regular role against right-handed pitching. He's now been left out of the starting nine twice in the Twins' last three matchups with righties, and in the game he did start, he batted ninth. Martin is slashing an ugly .138/.219/.207 over his last 25 contests. Kody Clemens will cover right field for Minnesota on Friday.

Martin came up clutch with what proved to be the game-winning two-run blast in the top of the seventh inning. It was a much-needed swing for the 27-year-old, who entered the contest in an 0-for-14 slump over his past five contests. For the year, he's slashing a solid .297/.413/.398 with two homers, 13 RBI, 17 runs scored and seven steals across 155 plate appearances.

Though he maintains a healthy 131 wRC+ for the season, Martin will hit the bench Wednesday while he's in the midst of a bit of a lull at the plate. Martin went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBI, a walk, a run scored and a stolen base in Thursday's 9-1 win over Miami.
Filling in as Minnesota's leadoff man for the injured Byron Buxton (hip) on Thursday, Martin responded with one of his best showings at the plate all season. The outfielder racked up a season-high three RBI, turning in his fourth multi-hit game in his last six outings. Although Martin hasn't offered much in the way of power, he's batting a torrid .333 with one home run, 11 RBI, 22 walks and seven stolen bases over 105 at-bats.

Martin is slashing .333/.484/.435 across 91 trips to the plate this season, but 18 of his 23 hits have been singles, as he's produced one home run, seven RBI, 11 runs scored, four stolen bases and a 19:13 BB:K. Martin has been a good source of batting average and on-base percentage, but he's not doing much else. He's also been caught stealing an MLB-high four times. Martin should continue to see regular playing time with his hot bat and good eye at the dish.

Martin will start in right field and bat third in Friday's game against the Blue Jays.
That the righty-swinging Martin is in the lineup versus lefty Patrick Corbin is not a surprise. However, he's now started in right field three times in the last four games, and the first two of those game against righties. Martin has been one of the Twins' best hitters this season and could be emerging as the team's preferred option in right field over the struggling Matt Wallner.

Martin's sacrifice fly in the fifth inning plated the Twins' only run during Friday's loss. Martin has been effective at the plate as of late, having reached base safely in 11 of his last 12 games. Over his last eight games, Martin has gone 9-for-20 (.450) with one steal (on three attempts), one home run, two RBI, five walks and six runs scored.

The right-handed hitter had been in a corner outfield spot for four of the last five games, but all of those starts came against left-handed pitching. After manning left field and occupying the leadoff spot in the season opener Thursday against southpaw Trevor Rogers, Martin has dropped out of the lineup for two straight games against right-handed starters. At least in the early stages of the campaign, Martin looks like he may have to settle for the short side of a platoon in left with Trevor Larnach.

It looks like Martin will bat leadoff against left-handed starters as he platoons in left field with James Outman or Trevor Larnach. Martin did make a mental error by throwing to the wrong base which led to a run, so he could be in the manager's doghouse in the short term.
