Papierski spent the 2023 campaign at Triple-A Toledo in the Tigers organization, collecting a .792 OPS with eight homers in 77 contests. The 27-year-old got into 39 games at the big-league level in 2022 between the Giants and Reds, producing just a .415 OPS.

Papierski was designated for assignment and non-tendered by the Tigers in mid-November. While the organization didn't see a major-league role for him, it evidently likes him enough to bring him back as a depth option. He didn't look like he deserved anything else in his 39-game MLB debut last year, hitting .143/.228/.187.
The Tigers declined to tender Papierski a contract for 2023.
Papierski turned in miserable offensive numbers in 39 games between Cincinnati and San Francisco last season (.143/.228/.187). The Tigers didn't see enough to want to keep him around either, but catching is always in demand, so Papierski could be in big-league camp with some team next spring.
