Braves' Brett Wisely: Shipped to Atlanta
The Rays traded Wisely to Atlanta on Tuesday in exchange for cash.
The 26-year-old infielder was DFA'd by Tampa Bay on Friday after the team acquired Victor Mesa in a trade with Miami. Wisely will now recapture a 40-man spot upon moving to Atlanta, but he is out of minor-league options and will have to break spring training with the big-league club to hold onto his roster spot. Joe Jimenez (knee) was placed on the 60-day IL in a corresponding move.

Tampa Bay acquired Victor Mesa from the Marlins via trade. In order to make room on the 40-man roster, Wisely was designated for assignment. The 26-year-old spent time with San Francisco and Atlanta last season, appearing in 26 MLB games and posting a .594 OPS. He slashed .253/.332/.387 across 342 plate appearances with the Giants' Triple-A affiliate in 2025.

Rays' Brett Wisely: Traded to Rays
The Rays acquired Wisely and Ken Waldichuk from Atlanta on Monday in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
Wisely came up through the minors with the Rays before being traded to the Giants in November 2022. The 26-year-old is a career .214/.265/.319 hitter over parts of three major-league seasons, but he's slashed .275/.372/.433 at the Triple-A level and can play all over the diamond. Wisely is out of minor-league options and could compete for the Rays' opening at second base, though a reserve role is likelier.

Braves' Brett Wisely: Scrubbed from 40-man roster
Atlanta designated Wisely for assignment Friday.
The move frees a 40-man roster spot for the addition of George Soriano, who was claimed off waivers. Wisely was a waiver claim himself in September and holds a career .214/.265/.319 slash line over parts of three major-league seasons. The 26-year-old can play all over the diamond, but he's out of minor-league options, which could hurt his chances of being claimed again.

Atlanta claimed Wisely off waivers from San Francisco on Thursday and optioned him to Triple-A Gwinnett.
Wisely lost his place on the Giants' 40-man roster following the promotion of Bryce Eldridge, but the former will reclaim a 40-man roster spot upon moving to Atlanta. He'll most likely remain in Triple-A for the remainder of the season after slashing .253/.332/.387 at Triple-A Sacramento for the Giants.

Wisely is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.

Giants' Brett Wisely: Homers off bench in loss
Wisely went hit a solo home run in his lone at-bat in Friday's 11-2 loss to the Athletics.
Wisely's first homer of the year got the Giants on the board in the seventh inning. He's gone 6-for-21 (.286) across nine games during this stint in the majors, and three of his hits in that span have gone for extra bases. Even with modest success at the plate, Wisely's chance to carve out playing time at third base is likely to end Saturday when Matt Chapman (hand) comes off the injured list. Wisely can still push Tyler Fitzgerald for time at second base, but the former's versatility on defense makes him arguably more valuable as a bench bat.

Giants' Brett Wisely: Retreating to bench
Wisely is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Diamondbacks.
Wisely went 3-for-12 with a double, three walks and two RBI while starting each of the Giants' last four games at second base, but he'll hit the bench in Monday's series opener. Though Casey Schmitt (wrist) joined Matt Chapman (hand) on the injured list Monday to open up an everyday role at third base for Christian Koss, Wisely's playing time at the keystone could be threatened by the arrival of Tyler Fitzgerald, who was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento. Fitzgerald will get the start at second base Monday and will bat seventh.
