  • Mariners' Luis Castillo: Nets NRI deal from Seattle

    The Mariners signed Castillo to a minor-league contract Tuesday that includes an invitation to spring training, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Not to be confused with the other Castillo of the same name, this Castillo spent the previous two seasons in Japan pitching for the Chiba Lotte Marines and then Orix Buffaloes. The reliever made three appearances with the Tigers in 2022, tossing 3.2 scoreless innings.

  • Tigers' Luis Castillo: Loses spot on 40-man roster

    Castillo cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Toledo on Thursday. Castillo appeared in three games for the Tigers in 2022, so it's not a major surprise he won't remain on the 40-man roster through the offseason. He spent most of the year at Toledo, where he had a 1.74 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 39:11 K:BB over 41.1 innings.

  • Tigers' Luis Castillo: Optioned to Triple-A

    Castillo was optioned to Triple-A Toledo on Thursday. Castillo will head back to the minors after being called up Sunday and delivering 1.2 scoreless innings Monday against the Angels. The 27-year-old righty has been dominant at Triple-A Toledo this season with a 1.79 ERA and 1.20 WHIP and has 38 strikeouts over 40.1 innings out of the bullpen.

    Castillo was recalled from Triple-A Toledo on Sunday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports. Castillo has been dominant in the minors this year, posting a 1.79 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in 40.1 innings over 39 appearances at Toledo. He's tossed two scoreless innings in the majors and will rejoin the Tigers' bullpen after Michael Pineda was designated for assignment Sunday.
