The Astros selected Gordon's contract from Triple-A Sugar Land on Tuesday, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Gordon, who turns 26 in December, held a 3.94 ERA and 124:39 K:BB over 123.1 innings this season with Sugar Land. The left-handed starter is now protected from the Rule 5 Draft.

Gordon (lat) struck out three and allowed three runs on four hits and one walk over three innings Tuesday in his return to action after being activated from Triple-A Sugar Land's 7-day injured list.
Gordon missed the first month of the season while recovering from a left lat strain. He was deployed in long relief in his season debut, but Gordon could join Sugar Land's rotation once he gets fully stretched out.

Gordon is on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Sugar Land with a lat strain, Jim Callis of MLB.com reports.
Gordon is one of Houston's better pitching prospects, but he struggled in six Pacific Coast League starts last season (4.63 ERA, 1.74 WHIP). Callis reports that the soft-tossing lefty should return to action by the end of April.

Gordon, who was promoted to Triple-A Sugar Land from Double-A Corpus Christi on Aug. 7, has posted an 8.80 ERA, 2.19 WHIP and 14:9 K:BB in 15.1 innings through his first four starts in the Pacific Coast League.
The 24-year-old lefty has struggled thus far at Sugar Land, though that's not unusual, given the hitter-friendly nature of most PCL parks. He's been stung thus far by the long ball (six home runs allowed), and his 11.7 percent walk rate is also up nearly three percentage points from his rate at Double-A (9.1 percent). Gordon had been one of the top strikeout artists in the Texas League prior to getting promoted, racking up 121 punchouts over 93.1 innings.
