  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Available out of bullpen

Arrighetti (calf) will pitch out of the bullpen for the weekend series against the Guardians, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Arrighetti was pulled from his last start Sunday against the Angels due to calf cramping. While he won't return to the rotation for the final series of the regular season, the 24-year-old right-hander could see some work out of the bullpen for a game or two to test out his calf ahead of the postseason. In 11 starts since the All-Star break, Arrighetti has a 3-6 record with a 3.30 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 74:18 K:BB across 62.2 innings.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Dealing with calf cramping

Arrighetti said after Sunday's game against the Angels that his calf started cramping during the sixth inning, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Arrighetti alerted the coaching staff when he started to cramp, and manager Joe Espada made the call to shut the right-hander down. Arrighetti will undergo further testing on his calf, but if there's no lingering issue, his next projected start would take place on the road against the Guardians. The 24-year-old right-hander allowed two runs on five hits while striking out six over six innings in a no-decision Sunday.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Takes low-scoring loss

Arrighetti (7-13) allowed two runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out three over five innings, taking the loss versus the Padres on Monday.

Arrighetti allowed an RBI double to Manny Machado in the first inning and a solo home run to Jackson Merrill in the fourth. This was Arrighetti's third straight outing without a win, though he's limited opponents to two runs or fewer in four of his last five starts. The rookie right-hander is now at a 4.68 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 161:62 K:BB through 136.2 innings over 27 starts. His next start is projected to be at home versus the Angels.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Bounces back with no-decision

Arrighetti allowed two runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out seven over 6.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Athletics on Tuesday.

Arrighetti gave up a run in each of the first two innings, including a solo home run to Zack Gelof, but he was able to settle in after that. This was a good bounce-back performance for Arrighetti after he failed to complete one inning in Cincinnati in his previous start. The rookie right-hander is now at a 4.72 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 158:61 K:BB through 131.2 innings over 26 starts this season, though he's allowed three or more runs just four times in his last nine starts. Arrighetti is projected to make his next start at San Diego with the Astros expected to use a six-man rotation this week.
