  • Phillies' Jean Cabrera: Cast off 40-man roster

The Phillies designated Cabrera for assignment Sunday.

Cabrera was added to the 40-man roster ahead of the 2025 season but has yet to make his MLB debut. The 24-year-old righty struggled mightily while splitting time between Triple-A Lehigh Valley and Double-A Reading in 2026, pitching to a 9.10 ERA, 1.94 WHIP and 46:32 K:BB in 62.1 innings over 15 starts. Philadelphia opted to move Cabrera off the roster in order to clear a spot for outfielder Bryan De La Cruz.

  • Phillies' Jean Cabrera: Sent to Triple-A

The Phillies optioned Cabrera to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Saturday.

Cabrera spent all of 2025 at Double-A Reading, posting a 3.81 ERA and 1.23 WHIP over 137 innings. After giving up just one earned run in 4.1 frames in the Grapefruit League, he'll officially receive a promotion to Triple-A to begin the 2026 campaign.

  • Phillies' Jean Cabrera: Optioned to Double-A

The Phillies optioned Cabrera to Double-A Reading on Saturday.

Cabrera was promoted to Double-A in July after turning in a 3.39 ERA and 1.09 WHIP across 77 innings at High-A Jersey Shore last season. He was awarded a 40-man roster spot during the offseason for Rule 5 protection but will return to Reading to begin the 2025 campaign. The 23-year-old righty isn't likely to crack the majors this year, but Triple-A Lehigh Valley should be within reach.

  • Phillies' Jean Cabrera: Protected from Rule 5 draft

The Phillies added Cabrera to the 40-man roster Tuesday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Cabrera logged a 3.39 ERA and 1.09 WHIP over 77 innings at High-A and a 4.85 ERA and 1.52 WHIP over 29.2 innings at Double-A last season. He may have worn down after the promotion to Double-A, and if he can recapture his form from High-A, where he had a 21.0 K-BB% and a 51.6 percent groundball rate, he could re-emerge as a fantasy prospect of note for late 2025 or 2026.

  • Phillies' Jean Cabrera: Moves up to Double-A

The Phillies promoted Cabrera from High-A Jersey Shore to Double-A Reading on Tuesday.

Cabrera made his Reading debut Thursday, striking out three and allowing three earned runs on five hits and four walks over five innings in a loss to Akron. The 22-year-old righty had previously accrued a 3.39 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 91:25 K:BB over 77 innings at the High-A level.
