  • Marlins' Heriberto Hernandez: Nabbing third straight start

Hernandez will start in left field and bat fifth in Sunday's game against the Pirates.

Since recalling Hernandez from Triple-A Jacksonville on May 7, the Marlins had mostly been using him as a short-side platoon player, but the 26-year-old's hot-hitting ways have allowed him to gain traction in the lineup against right-handed pitching of late. Hernandez will be included in the starting nine for a third straight matchup with a righty and has hit out of the No. 5 spot in each of those contests. He's slashing a robust .313/.338/.563 with five home runs, two steals, 16 RBI and nine runs over 22 games since his call-up.

  • Marlins' Heriberto Hernandez: Goes deep twice vs. Washington

Hernandez went 2-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI during the Marlins' 7-3 win over the Nationals on Tuesday.

The Marlins hit three straight home runs off Miles Mikolas in the fourth inning, with Hernandez's solo shot sandwiched between long balls by Joe Mack and Otto Lopez. Hernandez gave the Marlins insurance runs in the ninth with a two-run shot to left field, marking the first multi-homer game of his major-league career. He is now up to five home runs on the season, all of which have come in his last 11 games.

  • Marlins' Heriberto Hernandez: Swats third homer

Hernandez went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in Monday's win over the Nationals.

Entering the game for Owen Caissie as a pinch hitter in the sixth inning, Hernandez ripped a Richard Lovelady slider down the left-field line to tie the game at 3-3, before Connor Norby gave the Marlins the lead for good later in the frame with an RBI double. Hernandez has been making an impact in a part-time role since coming back up to the majors in early May, and through his last 36 plate appearances dating back to May 7, the 26-year-old is slashing .294/.306/.559 with all three of his homers on the season, along with 11 RBI, three runs and a steal.

  • Marlins' Heriberto Hernandez: Crushes walk-off grand slam

Hernandez went 2-for-2 with a grand slam in Sunday's 4-0 win over the Mets.

The 26-year-old outfielder pinch hit for Owen Caissie in the seventh inning of a 0-0 tie and stayed in the game in left field, becoming the hero when he got hold of a Devin Williams changeup in the bottom of the ninth and sent it sailing 416 feet over the center-field fence. It was Hernandez's first career grand slam and his second homer of 2026, and since being called back up to the majors May 7 he's batting .280 (7-for-25) in sporadic action with two home runs, one steal, two runs and eight RBI. With Caissie struggling badly (42.0 percent strikeout rate and a .635 OPS in 46 games), Hernandez could carve out a bigger role if he keeps coming up big.

  • Marlins' Heriberto Hernandez: Likely to cede starts to Stowers

Hernandez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins.

Hernandez patrolled left field in 13 of the Marlins' first 21 games this season, but with Kyle Stowers (hamstring) making his return from the injured list Sunday, that path to playing time will close. • Marlins' Heriberto Hernandez: Struggling to begin season

Hernandez went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in Monday's 2-0 loss to the Reds.

The 26-year-old outfielder is struggling to find his 2025 form so far in 2026, going just 3-for-27 (.111) through nine games with a triple, two runs, four RBI and a 4:6 BB:K. For now, Hernandez remains a fixture in the Marlins' lineup in left field against left-handed pitching while still getting occasional starts against righties, but his path to consistent playing time will get a lot narrower once Kyle Stowers (hamstring) is healthy.

  • Marlins' Heriberto Hernandez: Playing-time outlook improving

Hernandez is likely to see extra playing time in left field due to Kyle Stowers (hamstring) being set to begin the season on the IL, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.

Hernandez was initially see more time at DH while providing a platoon partner for Stowers in left field and Owen Caissie in right, but he now might need his glove more often. Griffin Conine will also have a big role in the LF/DH mix with Hernandez, while Connor Norby could also get some starts in left if he shows he's up to the task defensively. Hernandez is batting .226 (7-for-31) in 13 Grapefruit League games with three homers, four steals and a 6:9 BB:K.

  • Marlins' Heriberto Hernandez: Flashes skills Friday

Hernandez went 1-for-2 with a walk, a solo home run and a stolen base in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Mets.

The 26-year-old outfielder is having an impressive start to his spring, going 4-for-14 (.286) with a double, two homers and three steals in three attempts. Hernandez likely won't keep up that kind of success on the basepaths in the regular season -- his career high in stolen bases is eight, set at Double-A in 2023 -- but he could be productive at the plate if he gets consistent playing time in 2026. As a rookie last year, he slashed .266/.347/.438 with 10 home runs in 87 games.
