Athletics' Jack Perkins: Struggles in spring debut
Perkins (shoulder) allowed two runs on two hits and two walks across two-thirds of an inning in Saturday's Cactus League loss to the White Sox. He struck out one.
Perkins wasn't at his sharpest in his spring debut, surrendering a leadoff double to Chase Meidroth and a two-out, two-RBI double to Edgar Quero before being lifted prior to completing the first inning. While the results weren't ideal, the right-hander getting back on the mound in game action is a positive development after he finished the 2025 season on the injured list with a right shoulder strain. Perkins will look to earn a spot in the starting rotation this spring, though he worked out of the bullpen in eight of his 12 big-league appearances last season.

Athletics' Jack Perkins: Slated to start Saturday
Perkins (shoulder) will start in the Athletics' Cactus League opener against the White Sox on Saturday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Perkins is expected to pitch just one inning in Saturday's game, but his ability to take the mound is a good sign, given that he ended the 2025 season on the 15-day IL due to a right shoulder strain. It's not entirely clear whether Perkins will be a part of the rotation or operate out of the bullpen in 2026. His performance in spring training will likely dictate what his role will be come Opening Day.

Athletics' Jack Perkins: Role undetermined
Athletics manager Mark Kotsay said last week that Perkins (shoulder) will enter camp as a starting pitcher, but the team has yet to decide whether he'll be a starter or reliever in 2026, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
"He's a weapon that we have yet to determine the path," Kotsay said. Perkins was much more effective as a reliever (2.75 ERA, 24.7 percent strikeout rate) than as a starter (5.68 ERA, 21.4 percent strikeout rate) during his time with the Athletics last season, but the 26-year-old is one of the A's better young arms so the team doesn't want to relegate him to a relief role just yet. The right-handed Perkins ended last season on the injured list with a right shoulder strain, and it's not clear if he has any restrictions at the start of camp.

Athletics' Jack Perkins: No timetable for return
Perkins (shoulder) received a subacromial injection Monday and is without a timetable for a return, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Perkins was placed on the 15-day injured list Friday due to a strained right shoulder, and the club is still uncertain as to how much time he'll miss. Whether he's able to pitch again this season should become more apparent when/if he's cleared to begin a throwing program. Osvaldo Bido is expected to replace Perkins in the rotation in Tuesday's game against the Tigers.
