CJ Alexander: Released by Kansas City
The Royals released Alexander on Tuesday.
Alexander was removed from the 40-man roster and is now out of the organization. The 28-year-old infielder has slashed .306/.354/.566 with 17 home runs this season at the Triple-A level, so he should be able to find a gig elsewhere on a minor-league contract.

Athletics' CJ Alexander: Claimed by Oakland
The Athletics claimed Alexander off waivers Wednesday and assigned him to Triple-A Las Vegas.
The 28-year-old was reported to have been released by the Royals on Tuesday after being designated for assignment, but the Athletics apparently put in a waiver claim instead. Alexander saw his first big-league action this season with eight games for Kansas City, but he's spent most of the campaign at the Triple-A level, where he has a .306/.354/.566 slash line with 17 homers in 83 contests.

Royals' CJ Alexander: Removed from 40-man roster
The Royals designated Alexander for assignment Saturday, Jaylon T. Thompson of The Kansas City Star reports.
Alexander and Austin Nola were bumped from the 40-man roster to make room for waiver acquisitions Tommy Pham and Robbie Grossman. Outside of four appearances with the big club this summer, Alexander has spent the season to date with Triple-A Omaha, slashing .306/.354/.566 with 17 home runs and 55 RBI in 83 games. While he's old for the level at 28, his success in the minors this season could land Alexander on another team's 40-man roster.

Royals' CJ Alexander: Sent back to Omaha
The Royals optioned Alexander to Triple-A Omaha on Friday.
Alexander appeared in four games with Kansas City after being called up June 24 but went 1-for-8 with three strikeouts during that stretch. He'll give up his spot on the active roster to Adam Frazier (thumb), who's being reinstated from the IL.

Royals' CJ Alexander: Playing time dipping
Alexander is not in the lineup for Friday's contest against the Guardians.
After starting each of the first two games upon his recall, the left-handed hitting Alexander has now been out of the lineup for three straight, and they've all been against righties. Nick Loftin is again handling third base and looks to be the preferred option of the two at the hot corner.

Royals' CJ Alexander: Hitting bench after two straight starts
Alexander is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins.
After being called up from Triple-A Omaha on Monday, Alexander started at third base in the first two games of the Royals' series with the Marlins, going 0-for-6 with a pair of strikeouts. He'll take a seat Wednesday while Nick Loftin occupies third base, and it's possible the two could be part of a timeshare at the hot corner until Michael Massey is cleared to play the infield again after he served as Kansas City's designated hitter in his first two games back from the injured list.

Royals' CJ Alexander: Gets call to big leagues
The Royals selected Alexander's contract from Triple-A Omaha on Monday. He'll start at third base and bat eighth in Monday's game against the Marlins.
Alexander, 27, has hit .323/.369/.555 with nine home runs this season at Omaha. Though he'll enter the lineup Monday for his MLB debut, Alexander will likely serve as a utility player during his first stint in the big leagues.

Royals' CJ Alexander: Traded to Royals
The Royals acquired Alexander, right-hander Andrew Hoffmann and outfielder Drew Waters from Atlanta on Monday in exchange for the No. 35 overall pick in the 2022 first-year player draft, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Alexander has produced a .258 average with 15 homers, 43 RBI, 41 runs and 13 stolen bases over 271 at-bats in 68 games with Double-A Mississippi this season. However, as a 25-year-old, he's overage for the level and isn't viewed as a major prospect. He'll likely report to Double-A Northwest Arkansas with his new organization.

Braves' CJ Alexander: Out with undisclosed injury
Alexander is on the 7-day injured list at Double-A Mississippi with an undisclosed injury.
Through his first 11 games at Double-A, Alexander had seven walks and just five strikeouts, but bad luck on balls in play has him sitting with a .143 average. This was an aggressive assignment for the 22-year-old, not because of his age, but because he previously only had 21 games under his belt above rookie ball.
