  • Mariners' Logan Gilbert: Solid showing in no-decision

Gilbert didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's win over the Rangers, allowing four earned runs on six hits, a walk and a wild pitch over six innings. He struck out seven.

The right-hander allowed at least four runs for the fourth time in the last six starts, with two-run home runs by Leody Taveras and Marcus Semien in the third and fifth innings, respectively, accounting for the damage. On the brighter side, Gilbert was able to continue generating plenty of swings and misses, notching 15 whiffs among his 97 pitches while extending his streak of starts with at least six Ks to eight outings. Gilbert pushed his career-high strikeout total to 198 as well with Saturday's production, and he'll once again aim for his eighth victory in a projected road rematch with the Rangers on Friday night.

Gilbert (7-11) took the loss Saturday versus the Cardinals, throwing a complete game (eight innings) in which he allowed two runs on two hits, a walk and a hit-by pitch while striking out 10.

Gilbert was just about at his best Saturday, but a hit batsman and a Pedro Pages two-run home run in the eighth inning sent him to the unlucky loss. This was Gilbert's fifth quality start in seven outings since the start of August. He's covered eight innings on four occasions this year, though this was his first complete game of the campaign. The 27-year-old is now at a 3.15 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 191:33 K:BB through 185.2 innings over 29 starts this season. Gilbert is projected to make his next start at home versus the Rangers.

It marked Gilbert's shortest outing this month after previously going at least six innings in three straight starts. He's now lost five of his last six starts, posting a 4.89 ERA over that stretch to go along with a 38:6 K:BB.

Through three outings in August, Gilbert has posted a 1.86 ERA, 0.78 WHIP and 19:3 K:BB through 19.1 innings, and he'll look to keep rolling in his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come on the road next week against the Dodgers.
