  • Mariners' Curtis Washington: Outrighted to High-A

Washington cleared waivers Saturday and was sent outright to High-A Everett.

Washington was added to the Mariners' active roster Tuesday to serve as emergency bench depth on short notice, but he'll now return to High-A and give up his spot on the 40-man roster. The 26-year-old outfielder is slashing .203/.296/.419 across 170 plate appearances at Everett this season and could make a push to reach Double-A by the end of the year.

  • Mariners' Curtis Washington: Sent back to High-A

The Mariners optioned Washington High-A Everett on Wednesday.

Likely because of Everett's proximity to Seattle more than anything else, the Mariners opted to call up Washington from High-A ahead of Tuesday's game against the Orioles to provide the club with some emergency outfield depth after Randy Arozarena (hamstring) was placed on the injured list. Washington didn't get the chance to make his MLB debut in the Mariners' 3-1 win and will now head back to Everett after Connor Joe arrived from Triple-A Tacoma to fill the spot on the active roster vacated by Arozarena. Given that he's 26 years old and has produced a modest .674 OPS at the High-A level this season, Washington will likely be designated for assignment the next time Seattle needs to open up a 40-man roster spot.

  • Mariners' Curtis Washington: Selected from High-A

The Mariners selected Washington's contract from High-A Everett on Tuesday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

With Randy Arozarena (hamstring) and Luke Raley (back) both sitting out Tuesday with injuries, the Mariners will promote Washington from High-A all the way to the majors to give depth to their outfield unit. The 26-year-old has slashed just .190/.280/.394 at Everett this season and is unlikely to play outside of an emergency.
