  • Phillies' Tyler Phillips: Continues to struggle Wednesday

Phillips allowed five runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out four batters over 4.1 innings in a no-decision against Miami on Wednesday. Phillips fell behind 3-0 in the first inning and gave up two more runs in the fourth. The right-handed rookie avoided a loss thanks to a productive Phillies offense, but he continued his string of recent struggles. After turning heads to begin his MLB career with a 1.80 ERA, three wins and a 19:2 K:BB over his first four outings, Phillips has since given up 17 runs with an 8:5 K:BB across 11 innings over his subsequent three starts. His time in the Phillies' rotation could be nearing an end, as Ranger Suarez (back) is expected to return during the team's Aug. 23-25 series in Kansas City.

  • Phillies' Tyler Phillips: Allows four runs in win

Phillips (4-1) picked up the win over the Dodgers on Wednesday, allowing four runs on six hits and one walk over five innings while striking out three. Phillips had a difficult time getting through the Dodgers' lineup from the jump, surrendering two runs in the opening frame as he allowed four of the first six batters to reach. The right-hander would then allow the first two men to reach in the second as well, leading to another two runs coming across for Los Angeles, though he closed out his time on the mound by hurling three consecutive scoreless innings. Phillips has now won four of his last five starts, though he's also allowed at least four runs in each of his last two outings while posting a 4:4 K:BB.

  • Phillies' Tyler Phillips: Struggles mightily in Seattle

Phillips (3-1) allowed eight runs on five hits and three walks while striking out one over 1.2 innings to take the loss Friday versus the Mariners. Phillips had pitched 15 consecutive scoreless innings over his last two starts, but Victor Robles ended that streak with a solo home run in the first inning. Luke Raley added a three-run home run and Justin Turner hit a grand slam in the second, which was enough to end Phillips' outing early. He's now at a 4.39 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 20:5 K:BB through 26.2 innings over five appearances (four starts). The rookie right-hander will have a tough test when looking for a bounce-back effort next week on the road versus the Dodgers.

  • Phillies' Tyler Phillips: Fires shutout Saturday

Phillips (3-0) picked up the win Saturday in an 8-0 victory over the Guardians, allowing only four hits and a walk over nine shutout innings. He struck out four. Making just his third career big-league start, the right-hander produced the first shutout by a Phillies rookie since Zach Eflin in 2016. Phillips tossed 105 pitches (71 strikes) in the impressive performance, and his scoreless streak stands at 15 innings after he blanked the Bucs in his previous outing. The Phillies could be looking for rotation help at the trade deadline with Ranger Suarez (back) joining Taijuan Walker (finger) on the IL, but Phillips is proving he can fill one of those spots quite capably. The 26-year-old will take a 1.80 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 19:2 K:BB through 25 innings into his next start, which lines up to come on the road next weekend in Seattle.

  • Phillies' Tyler Phillips: Blanks Pirates

Phillips (2-0) picked up the win Sunday against Pittsburgh, allowing four hits and a walk with three strikeouts over six scoreless innings. Phillips was outstanding in his second career start, keeping the Pirates without an extra-base hit and generating his first quality start. The 26-year-old has been a worthy stand-in fifth starter for the Phillies and boasts a 2.81 ERA and a 15:1 K:BB across 16.0 innings in three big-league appearances. With Taijuan Walker (finger) not expected back until August, Phillips is lined up for another start, which should come during a three-game series against the Guardians next weekend.

  • Phillies' Tyler Phillips: Earns first major-league win

Phillips (1-0) earned the win against the Athletics on Saturday, allowing four runs on six hits and no walks with five strikeouts over six innings. Phillips allowed two runs over his first six innings but stumbled in the seventh, yielding two more runs without recording an out. He threw an impressive 51 strikes on 79 pitches with 11 whiffs and pitched well enough to secure the first win of his career. It remains to be seen what the rookie's role will be after the All-Star break, but he has a good shot to stay in the mix until either Taijuan Walker (finger) or Spencer Turnbull (lat) returns from the injured list.

  • Phillies' Tyler Phillips: Gets first MLB start Saturday

Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Phillips will make his first major-league start Saturday against the Athletics, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Phillips pitched well in an extended relief outing Sunday in Atlanta, allowing one run, striking out seven and not issuing a walk over four innings. He was pressed into action following an ineffective start by Michael Mercado, who will now head to the bullpen to make room in the rotation for Phillips.

  • Phillies' Tyler Phillips: Gets called up

The Phillies selected Phillips' contract from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday. The 26-year-old will get his first taste of MLB action, joining the 40-man and 26-man roster after spending early portions of the 2024 season at Triple-A. He made 15 starts for Lehigh Valley, owning a 4.89 ERA with 78 strikeouts across 92.0 innings. However, he's expected to operate out of the bullpen with the Phillies. Yunior Marte was optioned to Triple-A and Luis Ortiz (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day IL in corresponding moves.
