David MacKinnon: Becomes free agent
The A's declined to tender MacKinnon a contract for 2023.
Oakland claimed MacKinnon off waivers from the Angels in August and gave him a brief look. He went hitless in 14 plate appearances with a couple runs scored. MacKinnon put up big numbers with Triple-A Salt Lake last season (.324/.429/.631), but those numbers carry little weight given his age (27) and the hitter-friendly conditions of the Pacific Coast League.

Athletics' David MacKinnon: Gets call to Oakland
The Athletics recalled MacKinnon from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday.
He'll be joining the big club for the first time since the Athletics claimed him off waivers from the Angels on Aug. 5. While he's up in the majors, the righty-hitting MacKinnon is likely to serve as a short-side platoon option at either first base or designated hitter. Oakland cleared a spot on the active roster for MacKinnon by placing outfielder Ramon Laureano (oblique) on the 10-day injured list.

The 27-year-old was designated for assignment by the Angels earlier this week and will now join a new organization. MacKinnon was at the Triple-A level before losing his spot on the 40-man roster, so he'll likely report to Triple-A Las Vegas for the A's.

Angels' David MacKinnon: Set for big-league debut
MacKinnon was activated from the taxi squad and will start at first base in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Mariners, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
He hit .327/.423/.633 with 13 home runs, an 18.8 K% and a 14.2 BB% in 56 games at Triple-A. MacKinnon was a 32nd round pick in 2017 by the Angels and is 27 years old at the time of his big-league debut.
