Phillies' Cristopher Sanchez: Stumbles vs. Cubs
Sanchez did not factor into the decision Thursday against the Cubs, allowing six runs on 12 hits and two walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out four.
Coming into the day, Sanchez hadn't given up more than two earned runs in any of his previous five starts this season. He had also given up just one home run on the year before the Cubs tagged him for a pair of long balls. Overall, Sanchez sports a 2.94 ERA despite a subpar 1.60 WHIP. He'll look to rebound in his next outing, currently scheduled to come next week at home against San Francisco.

Phillies' Cristopher Sanchez: Suffers tough-luck loss Saturday
Sanchez (2-2) took the loss against Atlanta on Saturday, allowing three unearned runs on eight hits and one walk with eight strikeouts over six innings.
Sanchez allowed all three runs in the third inning after a two-out error by Edmundo Sosa, with one scoring on an infield single and two on another softly hit single (69.1 mph). He was strong otherwise, throwing 59 of 93 pitches for strikes and generating a whopping 13 whiffs on his changeup alone. The southpaw has now yielded two earned runs or fewer in each of his five outings to open the season and owns a 1.59 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 39:8 K:BB across 28.1 innings. He's slated for a road matchup against the Cubs next week.

Phillies' Cristopher Sanchez: Fans eight in six strong innings
Sanchez (2-1) notched the win Monday against the Cubs, allowing two runs on six hits and three walks in six innings. He struck out eight.
Other than serving up a two-run shot to Dansby Swanson in the fourth inning, Sanchez put together another strong outing Monday. The star left-hander fanned at least six for the fourth time in as many starts this year, also generating an impressive 16 whiffs on the evening. Sanchez, who owns a 2.01 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 31:7 K:BB over 22.1 innings, has given up two runs or fewer in each of his four appearances ahead of a difficult assignment this weekend against Atlanta.

Phillies' Cristopher Sanchez: Gives up 11 hits in loss
Sanchez (1-1) took the loss against San Francisco on Tuesday, allowing four runs (two earned) on 11 hits and no walks while striking out six batters over five-plus innings.
Sanchez entered Tuesday having given up just one run on seven hits through two starts spanning 11.1 frames, but he was less effective against the Giants. The southpaw had to frequently work out of trouble over his first three innings, though he managed to make it through four frames with just one run allowed. Things fell apart for Sanchez a bit in the fifth, as he yielded a pair of runs (both were unearned) on three hits, including a double. He returned for the sixth but allowed the only two batters he faced to reach base before being pulled, with one more run being charged to him following his departure. Sanchez's ERA still sits at an attractive 1.65, and this shaky outing isn't going to remove him from the conversation as one of the baseball's top starting pitchers.

Phillies' Cristopher Sanchez: Fans seven in no-decision
Sanchez didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Nationals, allowing one run on four hits and four walks while fanning seven across 5.1 innings.
Sanchez finished just two outs shy of recording what would've been a second consecutive quality start, but this outing represented some regression after his dominant showing on Opening Day. Still, Sanchez should remain a dependable arm at the top of the Phillies' rotation even if he has some command issues on occasion. Through his first 11.1 innings, Sanchez has 17 strikeouts while allowing just one run, so there are plenty of positives despite the four walks Wednesday. Sanchez tentatively lines up to take the mound next week against the Giants on the road.

Phillies' Cristopher Sanchez: Dominant Opening Day showing
Sanchez (1-0) picked up the win Thursday against the Rangers, allowing no runs on three hits and no walks in six innings. He struck out 10.
The All-Star left-hander was excellent in his first outing of the year, holding Texas to a lone extra-base hit and generating 13 whiffs in his eighth career double-digit strikeout performance. It was particularly encouraging to see Sanchez throw 87 pitches, considering he topped out at 50 pitches in his final Grapefruit League start. Sanchez will be trying to keep the good times rolling in his next outing, currently projected for a favorable home matchup next week against the Nationals.

Phillies' Cristopher Sanchez: Inks six-year extension
Sanchez agreed to a six-year, $107 million contract extension with the Phillies on Sunday that includes a club option for 2033, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
The new deal begins in 2027, so the left-hander will still make $3.5 million this season as part of the four-year, $21.5 million extension he signed in 2024, which still had a couple years remaining plus two team options. Sanchez has been named Philadelphia's Opening Day starter for Thursday's matchup with the Rangers after posting a 2.50 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 212:44 K:BB across 32 regular-season starts last year.

Phillies' Cristopher Sanchez: Starting Opening Day
Sanchez was announced as the Phillies' Opening Day starter for Thursday's game versus the Rangers, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
The left-hander certainly earned it after he posted a 2.50 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 212:44 K:BB across 202 innings during the regular season last year, though Zack Wheeler (shoulder) likely would have still earned the nod if healthy. Sanchez has established himself as a frontline starter the past two seasons, with his 212 strikeouts last year ranking seventh in MLB.
