Eric Young: Transitions into coaching
The Mariners announced Wednesday that Young will serve as a coach at the organization's Triple-A affiliate at Tacoma in 2021.
Young's addition to the Mariners' player development staff likely signals the end of his 18-year professional career. The 35-year-old spent parts of 10 seasons in the big leagues, accruing a .245/.312/.332 slash line to go with 13 home runs and 162 stolen bases across stints with the Rockies, Mets, Braves, Yankees and Angels.

Young was released by the Mariners on Sunday, Rainiers broadcaster Mike Curto reports.
Young signed a minor-league deal with Seattle in March but struggled at Triple-A Tacoma with a .236/.296/.362 slash line in 33 games. The veteran outfielder will look to latch on elsewhere but likely faces a tough path to the majors.

Eric Young Jr.: Released by Baltimore
Young was released by the Orioles on Friday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
Young had a strong spring, hitting .323/.462/.452, but the Orioles couldn't find room for the 33-year-old veteran on their rebuilding roster. He could still return to the organization in a minor-league capacity if he's unable to find a big-league opportunity elsewhere.

Orioles' Eric Young Jr.: Invited to camp by Orioles
Young signed a minor-league deal with an invitation to spring training with the Orioles on Monday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
The 33-year-old has received at least some big-league playing time for 10 straight seasons, though he didn't accomplish much last year in 41 games for the Angels, hitting just .202/.248/.303. He still has a bit of speed, which could be useful to deep-league owners should he find his way to regular playing time, but he doesn't offer much else, and the rebuilding Orioles will likely prefer to give at-bats to younger options.

Angels' Eric Young Jr.: Not in Thursday's lineup

Angels' Eric Young Jr.: Shifts over to left field
Young will start in left field and bat ninth Sunday against the Astros, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
Since Mike Trout (wrist) returned from the disabled list Friday, Young has shifted from center to left field and will make his third straight start at the position in the series finale. The speedy 33-year-old has been in the lineup for each of the past 12 games, slashing .244/.261/.378 with three steals over that span. Despite the poor production at the plate, Young could continue to benefit from steady at-bats down the stretch with the Angels lacking in quality alternatives in the outfield.

Angels' Eric Young Jr.: Raps three hits in win
Young went 3-for-5 with a triple and a pair of runs scored in Saturday's victory over the Rangers.
Young has been seeing everyday playing time in center with Mike Trout (personal) away from the team. The latter isn't expected to return until Aug. 24 at the earliest, allowing Young to maintain short-term value as a stolen-base threat (four steals over last 10 starts).

Angels' Eric Young Jr.: Triples, drives in two
Young went 1-for-3 with a triple, a walk, two RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's win over the Padres.
Young drove home a run on a groundout in the second inning before delivering another RBI on his first triple of the season. With Mike Trout (wrist) on the disabled list, Young has been seeing regular starts in the outfield, but he's hitting just .225/.304/.425 over 40 at-bats.

Angels' Eric Young Jr.: Hits first homer of 2018
Young went 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBI in Monday's win over Detroit.
The 33-year-old made his sixth consecutive start in the outfield, taking advantage of Mike Trout's wrist injury. Trout is expected to miss at least a couple more games, so Young should continue to start in center until the superstar returns to action. Deep-league owners shouldn't expect much power from the veteran despite Monday's long ball, but there is some short-term potential for stolen base opportunities (10 steals in the minors this season).

Angels' Eric Young Jr.: Makes fifth straight start
Young will start in center field and bat second Sunday against the Indians, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
Young is in the lineup for the fifth consecutive contest with Mike Trout's ongoing absence due to a wrist issue continuing to open up a spot in the outfield. The increased opportunities have yet to bear much fruit for the veteran burner, who has gone 3-for-13 at the dish over the past four games and hasn't attempted any steals. Despite his lack of productivity, Young should enjoy ample at-bats for the duration of Trout's absence.

Angels' Eric Young Jr.: Contract purchased from minors
Young was called up from Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.
Young has spent the entirety of the 2018 season with Salt Lake, where he's slashed .300/.367/.453 with five home runs, 34 RBI and 10 stolen bases in 84 games. He will provide added outfield depth behind Justin Upton, Mike Trout and Kole Calhoun during his time with the team. Young previously played in 47 contests with the Angels last year. In a corresponding move, Jabari Blash was bumped off the roster.

Angels' Eric Young Jr.: Not breaking camp with big-league club
Young will not be on the Angels' Opening Day Roster.
The veteran outfielder will remain in big league camp for depth purposes over the next few days, but the team will not carry him on the Opening Day roster. Look for Young to be officially assigned to one of the Angels' minor league teams within the next week. Young had been a candidate to land a fourth or fifth outfielder role for the Angels, but he'll have to wait until later in the year before that becomes a possibility.

Angels' Eric Young Jr.: Back with Angels
Young signed a minor-league contract with the Angels on Thursday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
Young elected free agency following the 2017 season but wound up re-signing with the Angels anyway. The switch-hitting outfielder held his own while filling in for the injured Mike Trout last season, hitting .264/.336/.418 with four homers and 12 stolen bases in 47 games. He'll get a chance to compete for a role as the team's fourth outfielder in 2018.

Eric Young Jr.: Headed for free agency
Young has elected free agency, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports.
Young wasn't a huge contributor for the Angels this past season, logging 125 plate appearances across 47 games. He batted .264 and had 29 hits, four home runs and 16 RBI. He'll be in search of a new team heading into 2018, though Young likely won't find himself in anything more than a depth role no matter where he lands.

Angels' Eric Young Jr.: Contract selected from Triple-A
Young had his contract purchased from Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
He'll take the roster spot of Bud Norris (knee), who was sent to the disabled list in a corresponding roster move. Young held his own while filling in for Mike Trout (neck) earlier in the season, slashing .260/.336/.396 with eight stolen bases in 34 games. Young is expected to serve as outfield depth for the big club, though he likely won't see much playing time with Trout, Cameron Maybin and Kole Calhoun all playing well in the outfield.

Angels' Eric Young Jr.: Outrighted to Triple-A
Young was outrighted to Triple-A Salt Lake City on Thursday, Maria Guardado of MLB.com reports
With Mike Trout (thumb) set to come off the DL on Friday, the Angels cleared a roster spot by outrighting Young. The 32-year-old Young appeared in 34 games while Trout was sidelined and slashed .260/.336/.396 with three home runs and eight stolen bases in that stretch. He'll no longer have a spot on the 40-man roster, which complicates his route back to the big-league club later in the season.

Angels' Eric Young Jr.: Rejoins lineup
Young (hand) will start in left field and bat ninth Wednesday against the Twins.
Young will reenter the starting nine following a four-game stint on the bench that limited him to pinch-running duties. With his bruised hand presenting no complications during batting practice, Young should settle back into a near-everyday role in left field through the All-Star break. Once the second half opens, Mike Trout (thumb) is expected to be ready to come off the disabled list and take back his starting gig from Young.
