Knicks' Jose Alvarado: Not starting Game 1
Alvarado won't start Saturday's Game 1 against the Hawks, Kevin Chouinard of the Hawks' official site reports.
With Jalen Brunson (ankle) back in the lineup for the start of the playoffs, Alvarado will retreat to the second unit. Over his final six regular-season appearances off the bench, the 28-year-old point guard averaged 5.7 points, 2.2 assists and 1.8 rebounds in 12.2 minutes per tilt.

Knicks' Jose Alvarado: Starting Sunday vs. Charlotte
Alvarado is in the Knicks' starting lineup against the Hornets on Sunday.
The Knicks are resting all of their starters except Mikal Bridges for Sunday's regular-season finale, so Alvarado will enter New York's starting lineup for the third time this season. Alvarado's last start took place April 1 against the Grizzlies, when he played 32 minutes and finished with 15 points, four rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block in a 130-119 win.

Knicks' Jose Alvarado: Removed from rotation
Alvarado (coach's decision) went unused off the bench Monday in the Knicks' 108-105 win over the Hawks.
Head coach Mike Brown trimmed his rotation Monday, using nine players, with eight of them playing at least 19 minutes. Alvarado ended up losing hold of his spot on the second unit, with Brown leaning on Miles McBride and Landry Shamet as the team's reserve guards. Before being removed from the rotation, Alvarado had appeared in each of the Knicks' previous 26 games following his acquisition from the Pelicans at the trade deadline, averaging 6.1 points, 3.7 assists, 1.8 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 1.0 three-pointers in 16.2 minutes.

Alvarado moved into the starting lineup, replacing Jalen Brunson, who was ruled out due to ankle soreness. While this was an encouraging performance, it is likely that Brunson was merely getting some rest, given the opponent. Assuming Brunson returns for Friday's game against the Bulls, managers don't need to chase this performance by Alvarado.

This was a terrific showing for Alvarado in a very limited role off the bench. Miles McBride (pelvis) suffered a setback in the loss and will miss Wednesday's game against the Grizzlies, and Jalen Brunson (ankle) is questionable. That means Alvarado could be in line for a healthy workload against Memphis.

Alvarado made the most of his opportunity, recording his first double-double of the season. While this was a great performance, managers need only look at his previous 14 games to understand why this effort is not worth chasing.

Alvarado amassed 26 points (8-13 FG, 8-13 3Pt, 2-3 FT), three rebounds, four assists and five steals in 19 minutes during Wednesday's 138-89 victory over Philadelphia.
It was perhaps Alvarado's finest performance of the year, as he set a season high in points, steals and treys. The 27-year-old point guard is quicky settling into a significant role since landing in New York, but his fantasy upside is likely to remain capped while Jalen Brunson is healthy and Landry Shamet continues to play big minutes. Through three games with the Knicks, Alvarado is averaging 14.0 points, 3.7 assists, 2.3 steals in and 3.3 three-pointers 20.7 minutes per game.

Alvarado accumulated 12 points (5-12 FG, 2-6 3Pt), two rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block over 25 minutes during Sunday's 111-89 win over the Celtics.
Alvarado made an immediate impact in his Knicks debut, reaching double figures and recording three stocks off the bench. In 41 games with the Pelicans this season, the scrappy guard averaged 7.9 points, 3.1 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 0.9 steals in 21.9 minutes per contest. While his role may fluctuate from night to night, Alvarado projects as a high-energy reserve capable of providing consistent defensive intensity for head coach Mike Brown.
