Jaguars vs. Eagles: Cam Little the hero, as Jags hit 57-yard game-winning field goal in London thriller

The Jacksonville Jaguars registered an incredible come-from-behind victory to move to 4-1, as they defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in London, 19-17.

It looked like Jalen Hurts had just led a game-winning drive, setting up Jake Elliott with a 48-yard field goal to give Philly a 19-17 lead with eight seconds remaining. However, Jags returner Ameer Abdullah returned the ensuing kickoff 53 yards to set up Cam Little with a 57-yard field goal, which he hit for the win. Defensive lineman DaVon Hamilton, who had to sub in at long snapper on Sunday, redeemed himself after a high snap led to a missed extra point earlier in the second half.

Trevor Lawrence threw for 331 yards, two touchdowns and one interception on Sunday, and Parker Washington was his top target. He caught six passes for 124 yards and two touchdowns.

As for the Eagles, to say they were short-handed this week is an understatement. Right tackle Lane Johnson retired on Tuesday, left guard/center Cam Jurgens was traded on Wednesday, and they were without Saquon Barkley, DeVonta Smith, Tank Bigsby, Drew Kendall and Jonathan Greenard. However, the Eagles didn't lie down and were highly competitive until the coverage team's gaffe at the very end. It doesn't make this loss any easier, as Philly has now dropped three straight games.

Let's take a look at what went down across the pond on Sunday.

A wild start

The Eagles and Jags couldn't get through the opening kickoff on Sunday without some controversy. On the first play, we saw a touchdown nullified by four penalties, including two ejections.

Jaguars rookie Josh Cameron ran back the opening kick 90 yards for the first score of the game, but there was some yellow laundry on the field to account for.

The Eagles were penalized for illegal formation, while the Jaguars were called for holding. Then, Jaguars defensive end Bryan Thomas Jr. and Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. were both called for unsportsmanlike conduct after a brief scuffle, and both were ejected. It took officials several minutes to sort through and then explain what in the world happened.

A flag fest

While this game turned into an absolute thriller, there's no denying it was brought down by penalties. As Rich Eisen said on NFL Network, there were "more flags than NATO."

The Eagles committed seven penalties for 43 yards, while the Jaguars committed a whopping 13 penalties for 100 yards. It's been an issue for Jacksonville, as the Jags committed 13 penalties for 125 yards last week against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Maybe this was an accurate depiction for our friends in London of how the 2026 NFL season has gone thus far. Just last week, there were 271 total penalties called around the league. That's the second-most penalties ever in a single week dating back to 1950, according to CBS Sports Research. There were 963 penalties called in the first 4 weeks of this season.

Fourth-quarter frenzy

So, how did it all go down?

After forcing a Jaguars three-and-out while preserving one of their timeouts, the Eagles took over at their own 38-yard line with 1:35 remaining in the fourth quarter — plenty of time to set up a potential game-winning field goal.

Hurts led the offense 32 yards down the field on nine plays, giving Jake Elliott a chance at a 48-yard field goal with 12 seconds remaining. He nailed it, putting the Eagles up, 17-16, with eight seconds left on the clock.

Instead of kicking the ball out of the end zone, the Eagles gave Ameer Abdullah a chance at a return. That was a mistake.

Jacksonville returned the kick 53 yards, and Abdullah got down with one second remaining. That gave Little a chance at a game-winning 57-yard field goal. Nails.

Jaguars' red-zone woes

While the Jaguars got the win, it was far from perfect. Apart from the egregious amount of penalties, one thing that stood out about Jacksonville's offensive operation was the failures in the red zone. The Jaguars went 0-3 in the red zone on Sunday, including two embarrassing trips.

Right before halftime, the Jaguars got down to the Eagles' 1-yard line. Chris Rodriguez Jr. was stuffed on first down, Lawrence threw incomplete on second down, he couldn't connect with Brian Thomas Jr. on third down, and then Tuten was crushed for a loss of six yards on a jet sweep on fourth-and-goal to end the first half.

What happened early in the fourth quarter was even worse. The Jaguars had a first-and-goal from the 1-yard line, again. It somehow turned into a third-and-goal from the 14-yard line. The Jaguars had a false start and then two delay-of-game penalties. The Jags went for it on fourth-and-goal from the 5-yard line, and Lawrence couldn't find anyone. Another turnover on downs in a critical situation.

Getting the win is all that matters, but Liam Coen has to be beside himself with how his offense fared in the red zone.

Eagles now under .500

The Eagles at 2-3 are now under .500, and it's been a long time since we could say that. The last time Philly was under .500 was Week 15 of the 2021 season. Sunday's loss snapped a 76-game streak of being .500 or better, which was the longest such streak in franchise history.

The last time the Eagles were under .500, Jason Kelce was the starting center, A.J. Brown was on the Tennessee Titans, Aaron Rodgers was on the Green Bay Packers and Tom Brady was in his second-to-last season.

What's next

The Eagles will return home next week to face Bryce Young and the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers are currently enjoying their bye week. The Jaguars, on the other hand, will leave Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for Wembley Stadium, which is just across town. It's there that they will play C.J. Stroud and the rival Houston Texans next Sunday.

Eagles force three-and-out, setting stage for potential game-winning drive

The Eagles defense forced a three-and-out and used only two timeouts. Jags punt the ball away and Jalen Hurts takes over at the PHI 38-yard line with one timeout and 1:35 remaining. Need a FG to win

Jaguars force Eagles punt, have chance to run out the clock

The Jaguars defense came up big, and forced an Eagles three-and-out. A 10-yard sack of Jalen Hurts on second down really helped.

There are 2 minutes remaining and the Eagles have all three timeouts. Let's see if Jacksonville can move the sticks.

Jaguars take lead on fourth-down TD!

PARKER WASHINGTON. The Jaguars just took the lead on a fourth-and-5 TD to Parker Washington from 27 yards out!

However, the extra point was NO GOOD. Defensive lineman DaVon Hamilton is playing long snapper today, and he had a high snap. That mistake could have massive ramificiations. Eagles only need a field goal.

Jaguars force three-and-out

The Eagles took over at their own 7-yard line, and Jalen Hurts couldn't move the sticks. It actually looked like he could have picked up an intentional grounding penalty in the end zone, but the refs said there was a receiver in the area of the throwaway.

Jaguars get the ball at the 49-yard line with five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter down 4 points.

Jaguars absolutely self-destruct in the red zone

This was one of the most maddening sequences you'll ever see.

The Jaguars had a first-and-goal from the 1-yard line, and that turned into a third-and-goal from the 14! The Jaguars had a false start, then TWO delay of game penalties. It looked like Brian Thomas Jr. had a TD on second-and-goal from the 9-yard line, but he couldn't get the second foot down.

The Jags went for it on fourth-and-goal from the 5-yard line, and Trevor Lawrence couldn't find anyone. Incomplete. One of the worst turnover on downs you'll ever see. The Jaguars now have 13 penalties for 100 yards.

After the Quinyon INT, we've seen three punts in a row. Pace has really slowed. Eagles still lead 14-10 with 12:12 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Penalties have been a major issue

Eagles turn the ball over on downs

A seven-play, 37-yard drive was thwarted by the Jags defense, who held strong on fourth-and-3 from their own 43-yard line. Looked like Travis Hunter was a bit handsy on rookie Makai Lemon, but no flag. Jaguars take over down four points.

Eagles go three-and-out

Philly starts the second half going three-and-out. That's notable because the Eagles have scored a grand total of 0 points in the second half in each of their last two games. Can't afford another collapse here.

Eagles goal line stand!

Unreal! The Eagles hold the Jaguars on four plays from the 1-yard line! FOUR CHANCES. Zero points. Still 14-7 Eagles.

The fourth-down play call was the worst, as Liam Coen called a Tuten jet sweep that lost six yards.

Officials have determined that Rodriguez did not fumble. I will say it looks like he DID fumble, but clear recovery was an issue. You can understand why the officials stuck with their original call.
